  1. Interesting thing happening here though. The critics are not being kind to it, but the audience seems to have a very favorable view of it. Yet, that is contrasted with its dismal box office numbers.
  2. The BE thing is a toss up. It’s clearly killing the OP ratings, but they also are doing the weekly promos and pretending it’s not a rerun so that might persist into the new year. Also, I did put down Naruto for stating over. Id be genuinely shocked if they manage to nail down Daima and MHA at same time. Even more so since Lazarus just dropped another key visual, further cementing my expectations of a Feb-March premier. That would drop MHA down to 1a for half its run, something I don’t expect them to want to do. Toonami does not need to add more time just to be half reruns. I recall not long ago I was treated as insane and unreasonable for expecting them to pay money for anything beyond 2am. Now it’s openly suggested they pay money for 4am reruns which is downright silly. The only reason I even float this schedule as a possibility is because there should have been a Saturday schedule update today. However, if there was, and Sailor Moon or Naruto moved into the rerun section, that’s an unintentional confirmation that Rewind is dead, something they seem to not want to admit till the last possible moment. I really want to be wrong on this prediction, because it just sucks turbo ass. If it was up to me, I think January should be used as a reset, especially now that’s it’s confirmed there will be no more Rewind eating up the budget. 12 - Daima or MHA S7 12:30 - Mashle 1:00 - Blue Exorcist (swapping to S2 when canon content ends) 1:30 - another premier 2:00 - One Piece 2:30 - the one and only rerun New year, new budget, new shows. None of this side crap siphoning funds.
  3. I expect this as well. Checkered Past gets a phase out period because it’s free to operate. Rewind was not extended that courtesy as it would cost money and be a harder pill to swallow after the block seemingly dodged the new years cuts. Here’s a January 4th schedule that I came up with in the shower and greatly fear 12 - Daima or MHA S7 12:30 - Mashle 1 - One Piece 1:30 - Blue Exorcist 2 - Sailor Moon (S1 ep 1) 2:30 - DBZ Kai 3 - Naruto (S1 ep 1) A sickening amount of reruns and long runners leaving very little flexibility to the schedule for the entire year. But very in line with how they have operated in the past to pinch pennies that will never be used to the block’s benefit.
  4. I am enjoying myself basking in their tears. I’ll never understand why the Toonami audience specifically is so incapable of even the slightest bit of critical thinking. Even now, I have still seen a few fringe posts of people saying not to worry and that Rewind will be back at full power the following week. They just haven’t secured Sailor Moon R yet, trust the plan. While the Rewind team never cared to hide schedule updates, the Saturday team does, so I doubt we will get a peek of anything tomorrow night except for maybe a timeslot confirmation, since if we lose or gain time, it will be reflected in the blank schedule.
  5. I consider outright cancelling it to be a plan. Now, as long as Saturday doesn’t becoming a dumping ground for those old shows no one was watching, we are looking good. Let the Kai license lapse and get that shit off of Saturdays and let’s have a good 2025. Now the question, will TOM give us a bang?
  6. It’s in the hands of the real audience now rather than just paid shills. The fact paid shills could only hold it up to 67% should have been a red flag. As much as I’d love to see it, it’s too late to toss Demarco out and get someone new. If it gets to that point, AS would sooner just cut their losses and can the whole block. But I agree, if the new norm is just 3 premiers (where one of them is eternally One Piece so really only 2), maybe it’s time for TOM to sign off. That said, if Toonami does end, that’s the end of the road for anime on AS. Yea, it doesn’t NEED Toonami to air, but the reason Toonami sucks is they can’t consistently get anime, or I guess in Demarco’s case, won’t settle for B shows. So there isn’t even a point in getting any without Toonami.
  7. Smash success? Not really. But it needs to sync up with its internal predictions. If they were expecting 10-12 and it’s looking more like 5-6, that’s gonna be a problem. Maybe not enough of a problem to get him fired, but enough of one to take his keys to originals projects away.
  8. I feel like if they do commit to cutting Rewind down to an hour, they won’t bother licensing anything else since they have pretty much already committed to cancelling the block later in the year. The block is already losing viewers due to the Kai marathons, once they announce a 50% reduction panic and acceptance will set in quick. Right now a lot of people are sticking with Rewind because they think Kai is running holiday marathons and the block will come back swinging in January. When that doesn’t happen, even more people will give up. And I don’t know, Sailor Moon is still one of the most popular anime franchises out there. I have a hard time believing that license is a negligible cost. If the old nostalgiabait garbage was that cheap, Saturday would have been filled to the brim with it years ago. But they have always had an aversion to the old stuff, and we have heard from Demarco in the past that just because a show is old doesn’t mean the price goes down.
  9. Yea, this feels like a cautious test run for how Bob and Hank do in those hours. If by some bizarro reason those shows flop up there, if they kill Checkered Past entirely, it’s kinda hard to un-kill it. But if they do fine, they can retire the block by the spring. The Rewind plan will be interesting. A one hour block doesn’t even feel like it’s worth the effort, even if they put it on a DBZ autopilot. But I suppose if they don’t want the fanbase to bitch that they killed it, that’s the best route forward. Then in a few months actually cancel it and blame the decline in viewership.
  10. In a better than expected result, Checkered Past will only be losing one hour to start, rather than being cut entirely. Do they think Rewind worth keeping around at 1 hour? Tune in Friday night to find out.
  11. What gave you that idea? He has always been pretty open that he would gladly air more capeshit on the block, if it existed and was available to the block. For a long time, there just flat out wasn’t any. Now more is being made, but it’s all spoken for on exclusive services. The main thing Demarco hates most is heterosexual fanservice.
  12. Like, strongly implied or full on flaming skeleton dong on full display?
  13. TOM pretty clearly said that CC would be exclusive to Max. Could that change? Sure, but not 3 weeks later. The fact that we didn’t get Suicide Squad Isekai should be all the proof anyone needs that CC won’t be coming either.
  14. No chance it will flop like that. Futurama has just kind of fallen off the wagon as far as rerun power goes. And this was not helped by the excessive use of the CC episodes and the movie episodes and their rerun cycle. Family Guy isn’t gonna have that problem. Family Guy is a ratings juggernaut, and it will be even stronger if AS gets the newer seasons they couldn’t air back in 2021.
  15. Family Guy is back, you may as well permanently put those forward expansion dreams to rest. Both of those were ancient relics by the time they got dubbed. The news wasn’t that urgent. Daima is gonna still be airing in Japan if we do get it in January, they need the fanbase to know as early as they can possibly announce that they have it so people make plans to watch it with Toonami and not CR.
  16. I’d be fine with them dropping the news Friday. Not perfect, but still a solid 1 month lead up to the potential airing.
  17. If either of those are correct, Toonami needs to be making an announcement like, right now on the matter. It would be moronic for them to wait till two weeks before now that CR has their cards on the table.
  18. We don’t need word, writing is on the wall. The only reason those two blocks exist is because KotH and Bob’s had to do the heavy lifting staring at 7pm. Now Peter is here to help. At the very least, Rewind is cooked since it costs money.
  19. Oh no no no, we aren’t doing this again. Fool me once with Uzumaki, shame on you. Promos and teasers always wheel out the best shots to lure people in. If that is what they consider teaser worthy, I shudder to think of what kind of PowerPoint the rest of the film is.
  20. If they had more than 50 episodes, they wouldn’t need to tweek the schedule like they are to include reruns of previous weeks episodes. Remember, this isn’t Kai’s first attempt at a rerun, they got burned on it back in 2019, so I wouldn’t put it past them to take the safe, experimental route and only grab roughly half the episodes for this trial period. I don’t believe they bought Kai for Saturday. The plan for Rewind was likely established early in the year, if not late 2023. Putting Kai on Saturday was just a lazy attempt at double dipping on a license because it’s DBZ. I don’t think Naruto was a first round draft pick for this block, but the problems they have with Crunchyroll and excessive costs of other more time appropriate options meant Naruto was the only choice. The most often suggested I see are YYH or some Gundam, both of which are off limits. I don’t think they could have picked a worse time for Naruto though. The same year Shippuden is about to leave and people are just about to breathe a sigh of relief that Naruto is off cable for the first time in 10+ years, and then they mess that up in the final stretch. Naruto fatigue is real, even if these episodes haven’t aired in a decade. I think that’s all gonna depend on their year end meetings where they discuss what worked and what didn’t. The key issue discussed is did Sailor Moon and the other shows do significantly better than the free Checkered Past shows it replaced. If not, what’s the point? For those of us who understand the nature of Toonami viewers, we knew this block was doomed from the start. These people beg for these shows, but forget they are so long and most of the episodes kind of suck without the optimistic eyes of a child watching them. So interest quickly fades away. Reruns never ever ever ever work.
  21. I don’t think it will be that dire, I’m just saying the common belief that this automatically ends on January 3rd is misplaced. One or two things will happen, either by February they get the schedule fixed, or by then they officially pull the plug. Cause the block will have irreparable damage from a month of Kai, it ain’t gonna survive two or more months of that. If my math is right, by the end of the year, Kai ends square on episode 50, the same amount of episode they buy One Piece at. So there’s a chance that January swaps over to pure Naruto if they aren’t renewing anything for Rewind.
  22. I believe the wording of the Facebook post is worth noting. Nowhere does it say this is a marathon, that it’s temporary, that it’s only for December, etc. It says they are all in on DBZ Kai. That means this schedule is the permanent one until they decide to change it. Last schedule update was in July, so this could possibly be the lineup for 4+ months for all we know. I know the optimists think this will change with the budget reset, but Saturday needs new shows too once that happens and I expect them to prioritize that over Rewind.
  23. What an awful first example for people to see. The first 15 seconds of this “animation” is a blatant stillframe with the mouth animated and nothing else. That might be ok for some throwaway TV anime, but something you expect people to cough up for to see in theaters shouldn’t look like this.
