I just figured they would pair the two together. There is never really a good time to air HCC otherwise. Too short to be in the rerun cycle. I mean, I’m not watching a rerun marathon regardless, I just find it to be a strange choice. I can see they seem to have a goal with MHA completing but still. If you are doing a Halloween marathon, you would think they would whip out their Halloween appropriate schedule filler.
-
I have kinda given up on them growing a brain and dropping Kai. I guess they could do this schedule 12 - IFG 12:30 - MHA S7 1 - One Piece 1:30 - Rick and Morty (dub) 2 - IGPX 2:30 - Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Mix those reruns up however you see fit. It’s doable to drop Kai, I just don’t think they want to and like to double dip. Demarco usually makes the wrong choice, but I feel like they wouldn’t with Daima. If it’s not airing, that means they don’t have it. We have to remember it’s easily the most expensive license on the market, even with a Toei friendship discount it won’t be cheap. They may not be able to swing it. I say we can’t write it off till the 11/16 schedule drops. Thats the first week after the theater premier. That could be a factor in a delay too, if it’s a smash hit, they may want to extend its mileage in the theater. On the topic of pointless delays though, why was the 11/2 schedule not dropped today? With IFG already announced, Toonami should have a full schedule out to go with that. I highly doubt anything but IFG is on the 11/2 schedule, so why hold it till next Friday?
-
We will never know since as with most reruns, it won’t do well enough to be reported. I think just blowing through the rest on 11/2 makes the most sense. The only thing it delays is One Piece, and it’s not like 1 missed episode is making a dent in our 500+ deficit we will never catch up on. They want to start it ASAP so it gets rolling a little before the holiday delays. I know 10/26 isn’t shorter time wise due to Uzumaki running long, but it is a subtle return to 6 slots, I expect that to stick going into future weeks.
-
As expected, Uzumaki marathon for 10/26. As not expected, they aren’t using this opportunity to air the dub. 2.5 hours of subs seems like a disaster, especially with opinion of Uzumaki in a freefall. Also kind of surprised to see them not use this opportunity to run HCC.

Given the short nature of Hashira Training, I could see them taking that option to carry us to the new year. They are already super behind on MHA, and will likely have a comparable delay on S8, there isn’t much harm in waiting till January where it can be the lead show until the next smelly original is ready to air. They need to tactically utilize the few acquired shows they can still get since that pool is ever dwindling. Definitely agree it’s long past time to cut back down to 6 slots. The schedule looks shitty enough without having 90 minutes of reruns at the end of it.

Invincible Fight Girl premieres on Toonami on November 2nd
Toonamiguy321 replied to Sketch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Whats surprising about it? No one cares about this, no sense trying to cash in on Thursday with this one. This is disappointing, but not surprising news. Two more slots to deal with now. Id say best case scenario, they drop MHA S7 in on the 9th for 12:30. How can they get there? It’s simple. Run IFG for an hour, then after that utilize DST to blast through what’s left of MHA. Normally, that would be a stupid idea, but when the block has no other noteworthy premiers, who cares? One Piece fans know they gotta pay back all those double ups so they will deal. So this will be 11/9 12 - IFG 12:30 - MHA S7 1 - One Piece 1:30 some rerun 2 - some rerun 2:30 - some rerun Once again, utilize the DST change confusion to sneak in a a cut and get the block back to 3 hours. And solve the problem of needing 3 premier shows by simply deleting one of the open slots. If they are feeling generous, and have any extra ones in the tank, One Piece can always take 1:30 as well, up to how much they can spare before the Jan reset. Remember, there are only 6 regular Toonami nights left starting 11/9, so it isn’t that long for them to be in a holding pattern. -
Uzumaki - Episode 2 Discussion

Coming together BEAUTIFULLY Team needed more time to get it PERFECT Thankfully Demarco had turned his Twitter back on a few months ago so we can find these gems. Also it seems the Bluesky comments have been deleted so he seems to have realized it was stupid to make them. Too late now though. -
Uzumaki - Episode 2 Discussion

Stopped following him years ago because most of his tweets (something that was an all day, every day affair for him) was bitching about politics. If he ever posts something about Toonami, someone else will find it and link it. Back to the topic at hand, I can’t even see why he thought this was a good thing to make public. For one, the timing makes it obvious he spent the past few days reading reviews, and had an “uh oh people hate it” moment and decided he needed to get it out there that this was not HIS fault, but instead some mystery person he may well have just made up. I get that he has to be the hype man for his projects, regardless if they are shitty or not, but to pivot from 5 years of “this is gonna be so fuckin sick bro you don’t even know” to “woah woah woah it’s shit, and the rest of it will be shit, but don’t blame ME” within the very first workday since it aired makes him look like such a soft fool. Genuinely would have been better off just not saying anything, let it run its course then have people forget about it by November. -
Uzumaki - Episode 2 Discussion

For YEARS and multiple delays, Demarco always made snide remarks to people asking about Uzumaki, telling them that quality takes time and they are working hard on it every day. Now that it’s out and people think it’s shit, he is saying he actually has known it would be shit for a long time. And of course, when Toonami related news is negative, Demarco wasn’t responsible for it at all. Demarco needs to get out of the TV biz and start doing politics. He has the perfect dishonest temperament needed for it. It was the same way with FLCL last year where we conveniently didn’t learn each was only 3 episodes until the first one was ending. -
Uzumaki - Episode 2 Discussion
Toonamiguy321 replied to [classic swim]'s topic in Episode Discussion Archive
That’s the exact reason. Episode 1 was handled by real, expensive talent. Episode 2 was farmed out to China/Korea while the huge wad of Demarco’s money they saved went to hookers and blow to enjoy during one of the many delays. Thats why I was constantly warning people that more time does NOT equal a better product. The best animation has just been the stuff from the promos, which wouldn’t surprise me if it had been made specifically for the promos. -

There are quite a few of these, but none of them seem relevant at all to the plot. They are just there so people who do watch the show can say “oh haha yes that’s a reference”. It must truly be baffling to newcomers when they see Mr Nimbus appear, for no real narrative reason at all besides being a character the fans like, and then mention he controls the police with no other context. Watch the actual show? You get it right away. It’s a silly joke that he inexplicably can control the police and no one will explain why or how. Apparently the guy who is working on this is a huge R&M fan. Perhaps the biggest in Japan. So all these little nods and references are just him flexing his knowledge. As well as using his position to fix things the fanbase didn’t like, such as poorly using Cronenberg Jerry. The other half of the show is whatever this time nonsense story is which probably won’t ever make sense. So who is this for? The creator. He got a free pass to make his fanfiction of his favorite show real. A dream many have, and few will achieve. But, just because you are in the industry doesn’t mean your fanfiction isn’t shitty drivel.

Uzumaki - Episode 2 Discussion
Toonamiguy321 replied to [classic swim]'s topic in Episode Discussion Archive
I gave episode one the benefit of the doubt, there were some questionable budget saving choices like the CGI mocap, but it kinda worked with the creepy vibe. Now here we are at episode 2, and it’s the exact same shit we get with every original where the budget drops like a lead weight. Half the episode felt like someone just holding manga panels up to the camera, while the actually animated parts were abysmally low quality. The punch early in the episode and all of the running animation in this episode makes Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer look like top notch animation work. What the hell were they doing for 5 years? -
Uzumaki has a pretty raw deal here playing second fiddle to a very controversial show with wildly inconsistent ratings. I have seen mostly all praise for it so far, I just don’t think people want to sit through Rick and Morty for it. October is gonna be an annoying month for ratings with all the political drivel going into overdrive which bumps all the news networks up. Barely even got the Uzumaki numbers this week. And it seems SotB stopped doing Toonami numbers as quick as he picked them back up.

So whose bright idea was it to use white subtitle text on a show where the backgrounds where there text sits are almost always white themselves? -
Looks like people are starting to find theater listings for the Daima dub staring on November 10th. So if this holds true, it’s unlikely to fill in one of the upcoming open slots. Of course, ol reliable Two Piece can hold a spot open as long as they need it, but we are looking at an absolute earliest being 11/16, but I doubt it hits cable 6 days after a theater special.

Hey, GGO S2 could have been Toonami related news if Demarco wasn’t an idiot/soft pansy ass and got S1 on the air when he had the chance. -
I agree that double episodes make the show a lot more tolerable. It feels like we kinda take a step forward. One step, but that’s better than some weeks where it feels like nothing at all happens. I just wish people would notice we aren’t actually moving through it any faster and getting it doubled up is the equivalent of getting nothing.
-
At the very least, that would lead the room temp IQ fanbase to the correct conclusion, that we actually got nothing. ”Oh kick-ass double One Piece is back!” <- Moron after moron who is completely blind to One Piece completely leaving the schedule for X amount of weeks that it was doubled up. “What the hell FLCL Grunge again? What is this shit! Where are the new shows!” <- Same moron who has been lead to having the correct reaction to the current state of the schedule. They are very clearly capped on yearly episodes, so I don’t know why anyone would think this would have stuck around. Really it’s all gonna hinge on Daima. Did they get it? They will cobble a schedule together for 11/2 even if Daima is the only new show. Did they not get it? They could easily stall till next year. There is no real rush for them to start MHA since they are already a full season behind it now. I don’t know how much they actually care about IFG. If that’s just a turd they need to get flushed, it could double up as the lead show for 5 weeks and solve most of their schedule concerns for the rest of the year.
-
Interesting that they never dropped a 9/28 schedule. Is that episode 45 minutes or nah? Seems like if any would be, it would be the first one. I have slightly higher hope that Uzumaki won’t suck with these extended episodes. Anyway, this is about what we expected to see. One Piece pays off 1 of its 3 episodes of debt, and will most likely cover number 2 on 10/26. I wish more people noticed this and would stop cheering for double One Piece. 11/2 is when they are gonna have to pull some kind of magic out of their hats.

Lazarus Panel confirmed for NYCC Oct. 18
Toonamiguy321 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
“Maaaay see some footage” That’s not November talk. Every AS show gets at least 3 weeks of on air promotion, so that would put it late November at the earliest at which point it’s tripping over holidays. Probably another February-March original. -
Then getting to do the dub has never been in doubt. They are basically entitled to do it. The million dollar question is where the dub ends up. If it was any other show, we could confidently say anywhere but Toonami. But since we know Toei can trump Crunchyroll in these decisions (even going as far as forcing script changes they do not like), Toei could force their hand and get it on Toonami. Exclusive or not, this will easily be the most expensive thing Toonami has picked up in years, if they end up getting it. The only way “costs too much” will be a factor for them not getting it is if it literally puts AS in financial danger if they pick it up. Which is where we have to wonder, how bad to big name players like Disney and Netflix want it? I’d say there is some level of interest, but as neither of them are exclusively working with anime, they may not try as hard as their bank account allows.

It’s a good thing to have SotB back in the game since he will report Toonami premiers regardless of performance. Without him, we would have nothing at all for 8/31 because the block just did so shitty that night. Anyway, my opinion on Rick subs has changed. Demon Slayer did great last week, but with absolutely no help from Rick since DS actually gained about 30k viewers off it. Very rare for us to see spikes like that in 2024. There is definitely merit in the notion that subs aren’t good for Toonami out front.
