The wife and I have traded in the casino visits for Value Village and Goodwill shopping... My hauls today were: TI-83 Plus Graphing Calc - $8 32" Vizio TV - $24 Decipher Star Wars CCG ls starter deck and premier box set - $10 Was pretty stoked with the swccg find. Anyone else have any good hauls lately? ... or ever?

Amen to that... Ain't worth it. We had a few people fired over the years at various stores just for trying to apprehend people. Don't know why you'd want to back someone into a corner like that. It's another thing if they threaten you first, but I haven't seen it yet.

Just gave my boss an earful for following a shoplifter out of our store... He's got a family and in the heat of the moment he needed to be reminded of what's important outside of this crappy job. You can always get more merchandise to sell but you don't get another crack at life if you get shot over some petty theft. So. Yeah.

Guess I'll go... I was working a day shift at a low-income housing project. We suffered our usual residents with case workers, disabilites and the like. 200 plus residents, crammed tightly in efficiency studios (200sq ft max) in a hot desert state. Well one day one of our case-workered residents, Chuck for anonymity's sake, throws his room keys at me and says he's moving to Jamaica. He's dressed the tourist-y part. Button up fly fishing shirt with little palm trees on it, khaki shorts and two large suitcases in tow. I grab his keys and wish him Godspeed. Chuck saunters out the door as if a great weight had been lifted off his shoulders. About 3 minutes later another resident tells me he was outside on the 3rd floor balcony. He watched Chuck drop his bags and take a swing at a Sheriff who happened to be close by posted up at Sheriff Joe's (yes, Arpaio) processing building. They were kitty corner from us. Chuck then proceeded to tell the Sheriff's that he had two bombs in his suitcases. Well that was pretty much it. Police and news helicopters began to swirl. Swat had the entire block on lockdown. No one could leave the building and swat posted outside our door. This was maybe my third week on the job and I couldn't believe this shit was going down. Residents eventually stopped calling the front desk to ask wtf was going on and kept tabs from their rooms on the news. Anyway, guess with his disability the whole thing blew over and Chuck showed back up about two weeks later and went right back to his room. Lots of other stories during my 7 years working there. But that was probably the most memorable.

We took my wife's grandparents to Costco yesterday since they don't have a card anymore... Grandpa was totalling up everything in the cart under his breath and grandma just kept giving him shit about it... We dragged behind them a bit and I asked my wife if that's how we're gonna be when we get to that age. Without hesitation she turned to me and said yes. You notice watching them though, together for 51 years now, that there's this polished resignation in how they give each other shit. And safety in knowing that they can haggle each other and no one's going anywhere. I realized that then it wouldn't be so bad to be like that when we get to that age. If anything I hope I, hell we, turn out to be just like those kind of old people.

I've busted a nut while at work with my then girlfriend/boss, several times... That was lifetime and plenty of regrets ago though.
