    good question. If I understand Watanabe, the whole societal sickness thing is just a commentary on our addiction to instant gratification and the angle he took is just a convenient plot device. He's probably not overly concerned with making sure it's all 100 grounded in reality. I probably would have preferred something less flimsy tbh, but that's not necessarily Watanabe's wheelhouse.
