  1. I'm completely lost on what's going on in this show. I have no idea who's on what side or the motivations of any of the characters, especially whatever Full Frontal wants to do. Wish I could follow it better!
  2. The schedule that Sketch did is perfect. It puts the lighter stuff earlier in the night. It may get more teen/kid viewers, but that's a consequence of it being on earlier in the night. It gets rid of the Super rerun problem as well. My biggest problem with the 8pm airing is that it's there as a requirement, unpromoted, and only siphons viewed away from the 11:30, while not being used to anchor anything else. This may just be what they need to do.
  3. I think it would do better by virtue of being the only airing. DVRS would pick it up too. On the other hand, it may just bring the kind of viewers if leave after DBZ. But if you start the night low, other things are lower automatically. So I'm hoping that they do away with it once TOEI realizes they aren't going to sell toys. But if 8's doing great, then focus on that one and just let Kai lead off the block. Build a mini block out of the 8pm hour like you said!
  4. They may be afraid of sticking the rerun further down the block and further damaging the back end. At first it was working fine. More people were tuning in for 11:30, but it has been dropping and more people are watching the 8 and DVRs are picking that one up. Like I said though, this may be what they're stuck with if TOEI doesn't let them push the rerun later. As long as they don't punish the block because the later shows do worse then it's all good. When they stuck AOT reruns at 11:30 in 2014 it did so much damage that they cut the back end. That wasn't Toonami's fault at all, it was a programming blunder.
  5. They have the tapes. The episodes also used to be on their website years ago. It was probably all part of the same playlist in some folder. Since Big O has never run on the stream before, it could just be a legitimate screw up from someone who didn't know better.
  6. Could be Toei. Could be the reluctance to break up the DB hour. What sucks is that the 8pm isn't being used for anything other than a contract requirement. I wish they could build something there. If it did great for 8pm then leave it there and put something compatible like Shippuden after it. They may be able to change this deal later, but it seems more and more are catching on to the 8pm. If the 11:30 continues to behave more like the rerun that it is, then I hope they have the good sense to do something about it. If TOEI forbids it, then please, AS, don't punish the rest of the block for not doing as well.
  7. I'd wager to say that the guys at Toonami know more about how to successfully run anime on TV in America than TOEI does. It's a totally different business model over there that is primarily merchandise driven. Also now we've hit the point where Kai isn't a dub premere anymore. We'll see if that has any effect
  8. While I want to wait and see what a non NBA night looks like, I have to say this is what I was afraid of. Jack did great as usual despite it being on at the same time as the game. The 12:30 AM timeslot just is not a good slot anymore, especially for a premiere as big as Attack on Titan. The Super rerun has been down, which bleeds into Kai being down as well. This situation with Super is hurting things IMO. The 8pm has been siphoning away more of the target demographic, which may not hurt as much we think, but it does affect things. Attack on Titan should have gone to 11:30. It would probably hold the Jack viewers well. I believe for whatever reason, they weren't allowed to do that because of TOEI stipulations in regards to Super's timeslot. If that's the case, they can't really do much until Jack leaves. But if Titan can't hold or beat Kai, the network might not see the value in doing that and consider it too risky t move to the front. Kind of a catch 22, give a show a bad timeslot and the only way it gets a better one is if it does well in said bad timeslot! Again, I hope TOEI isn't the reason that Aot couldn't get 11:30. If so, I'd say it's a lesson to AS about giving too much control to a third party when it comes to programming decisions. I hope you guys sell a lot of toys! If not, please just accept it for what it is and let AS handle the timeslots. Considering the cost of getting Aot as a fast simuldub, it deserved a lot better treatment than this.
  9. Very realistic. I was looking at TVBTN and it does the weeknight weekly averages for how AS does against the late night shows. The 11:30 timeslot is averaging about 1.2 mil/ 0.5 18-49 and the 12:30 is averaging 900k/0.4 18-49. This represents the whole hour in comparison to things like Fallon/Colbert and Seth Meyers/ James Corden. To me, that seems way down from before. Putting that in perspective, I don't think Toonami is doing bad for a Saturday, which is always been slightly less
  10. It's possible that they can get the HD tapes at a later date. Kinda similar to when they had to re up Bebop with FUNimation. They used the old tapes for awhile still. It's kind of weird to think that they have tapes of all their old shows just sitting there, but aren't allowed to play them! Whether this ever comes back on TV is another story. Either way, it's an exciting thing that they went out and got the rights back for this, even if it's just for streaming. Maybe Outlaw Star is next.... ;D
  11. Whoa! Looks like Sentai came through for them! Wonder if this is a one time deal or they really have rights to the whole series again?
  12. It appears that Funimation and Toonami are working together on this with Funimation helping to promote. I feel that they either won't take a break or if they do Funimation will delay as well.
  13. They're actually posting the dub at 10 PM EST the Sunday (next day) after Toonami airs it! https://www.funimation.com/blog/2017/04/12/announcement-attack-titan-season-2-dub-joins-funimations-spring-season/ That's why I was concerned that any delay on Toonami's part would put them behind this if Funimation keeps going.
  14. I was actually talking about Memorial Day. I was wondering if Toonami was going to preempt AOT and if they did, would Funimation still post as scheduled leaving Toonami a week behind. Since Funimation seems to really be promoting the TV airing, I'm leaning more in the direction of that situation not being as likely. I either think they won't preempt or Funimation will have to delay their posting until Toonami airs it. Otherwise, it seems odd that Toonami would hurry Jojo out in order to start a week earlier. They really want this thing airing as close to Japan as possible.
  15. The fact that they're pushing the Toonami broadcast leads me to believe that they'll preempt on their side if Toonami does for the holiday. On the other hand, the agreement might not allow for a preemption in order to keep pace with Japan.
  16. That's actually a good idea. Maybe for whatever reason they don't get those for Super. The only reason I say they would for AoT, is that there is precedent for it with season 1 having done it. Demarco said in his interview with Toonami Squad that they would make topical for things they make or things they have a heavy financial investment in. I'd imagine Titan cost more than the average show due to the nature of getting it so soon after Japanese broadcast. They could have waited a few months and let FUNimation put it out first and picked it up later, but they saw an opportunity to get it first and probably paid for the privilege. FUNimation was willing to compromise and wait until the next day to post it and maybe even that brief exclusivity cost them as well. As I was talking about last time, I wonder how tight the production schedule on this is and if they can even get a topical made in time for the next week. With Space Dandy, Toonami, FUNimation, and the Japanese production company had made plans ahead of time to pull it off and they mostly used Texas actors (I believe they used some LA actors in minor roles like Bryce and Johnny, but that may have been by luck in having them around at the right time). Titan has actors both in Texas and LA and can only imagine the logistics that need to be worked out with that. (at least technology as come a long way for that!). I remember an interview with Bryce where he really didn't know if they could pull off a simuldub due to these issues. That being said, I'm sure topicals would need a little more lead time than this may allow. I hope this doesn't happen, but delays could cause hiccups in production and possibly force the show to take a week off. That of course depends on how many episodes ahead they are. Maybe Memorial Day would allow them to breathe a little bit. I wonder if Toonami moved up the premiere because FUNimation wanted to post the episode a week before their original premiere date?
  17. I'd imagine they are because it probably cost them a lot. Since they don't have to do Sandwhale anymore, it frees up some promo time. The only hiccup is if the dub falls behind and don't have time to make one. The recent promo and its lack of dialogue leads me to believe that they are coming down to the wire on this one.
  18. Think they would consider Sandwhale a success?
  19. All those decisions that have to be made is why I don't envy the programming department. Keeping 11pm is a toss up. They could slide everything forward, giving the 11pm hour to Dragonball, they could try AOT in that hour as well. They don't like to mess with the lineup too much. But we've seen cases before where shows that are doing well move up, so if AOT does great, then who knows?
  20. I think Stardust is still a certainty. If they're smart, treat it like a new show. It's fresh, somewhat modern, and will probably mostly be devoid of funny accents. Run a promo similar to the one Toonami Faithful made in 2015 that outlines the main plot and sprinkle some of the humorous moments in there. Just don't throw in any clips of Jotaro calling his mom a the "b word" as it might turn off some viewers. : )
  21. Do you know why TVBTN no longer gets the full cable ratings? Or why Programming Insider (they seem to do it for AS on Saturday but not other nights of the week) or Showbuzz don't post them? Does anybody else?I wish I could compare Toonami's performance to other nights of Adult Swim.
  22. I really hope that we don't get Jojo numbers for Attack on Titan. This series should be able to hold Kai better and maybe even gain on it. They paid a lot of money to get this I'm sure if we get similar drops like we've been getting, they may never do anything like this again for us. I don't mean to rag on Jojo, which still didn't do bad and had similar drops to other 12:30 shows, but I think the level of expectations for a show like Titan are higher considering the likely cost.
  23. Now I'm really interested in what Toonami and Funimation do about Memorial Day. If Toonami preempts, will Funimation? Is it worth it to get further behind Japan and possibly even behind the dub release? I guess all that will have to be taken into consideration. They didn't preempt Space Dandy during the 4th or Labor Day because they wanted to be the first to premere it. They even briefly moved it back to 11:30 for the one week. I think it's important to try and keep pace and not be potentially 5 weeks behind Japan and possibly 2 weeks behind Funimation (although it's possible there's a deal in place to prevent this). I guess they'll have to decide if the holiday factor outweighs the possibility of getting behind.
  24. That's true. I suppose that would affect Funimation's simulcast schedule. I was just concerned that they would plow ahead whether Toonami takes a break or not. They may have a broadcast deal that lets Toonami air it first before their allowed to post it though. At least if I was in Toonami's position, I'd push for that kind of deal.
