OwlChemist81 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 I found it weird we don't yet have a Toonami Pre-Flight discussion thread, so I decided to start one. The current iteration comes up on the Stream as soon as Gundam IBO #19 ends. It contains: A Show Review of Eureka 7 Jason & Gill's Favorite Scenes of "Love, Actually" (Yes, really. Have they reached the "Limit of Questions!?" Fans' hilarious responses Sneak Peeks: Intruder 3 Episode 3, a preview of Intruder 3 Episode 4, and the Intruder 3 comic promo Dennis's hilarous review of "Love, Actually" The AS Singles track of the week. Blatch Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 I came expecting major announcements, but all I got was another Toonami comic. B- troll. Though I guess it's certainly worthy of the distinction. Quote
CaptainStarwind Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Another comic? God, I'm still sore after they lied about what the last one was gonna be about. I'm sure they'll say this one is gonna be about how TOM gets another new body, and it'll end up being about Moltar or something. Quote
ben0119 Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 I meant to start a thread for Pre-Flight sooner. It's been hectic here at home. Dealing with some issues here. I probably won't be able to see some of the past few episodes right away, because I think I missed more than 2 weeks in a row. Son of a bitch. Quote
ben0119 Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Another comic? God, I'm still sore after they lied about what the last one was gonna be about. I'm sure they'll say this one is gonna be about how TOM gets another new body, and it'll end up being about Moltar or something. They need a comic to explain how TOM 3.5 went to TOM 5 and how he got the new body and ship, plus that version of SARA, etc. There's a gap in the continuity and lore. And yeah, the last comic was garbage. Just not very good quality-wise, as if the person making it doesn't understand how to make sequential art that tells a story, and nobody gives a shit about TOM 4, either. Quote
CaptainStarwind Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 They need a comic to explain how TOM 3.5 went to TOM 5 and how he got the new body and ship, plus that version of SARA, etc. There's a gap in the continuity and lore. I've just come to the conclusion that we're never gonna get that comic. That's what they said the trainwreck of the Intruder II comic would be about, anyway. And they said they'd explain TOM 4, to... Admittedly I don't think explaining all this stuff should be their top priority (I mean, they have a block to run, after all), but some continuity would be nice. Quote
PokeNirvash Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 TOM 4 not looking as unsettling as his CGI counterpart and "Weiner time!" were the only decent parts of the comic. The rest of it was for the most part forgettable. Quote
Blatch Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Here's something I'll say up front: I never actually read the Intruder 2 comic. Mostly because other people said it sucked. As for Trapped, I do feel genuinely enthusiastic about that one, so I'll get to it eventually. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 It's actually pretty good, and left me wondering "why the hell didn't they animate THAT instead of Intruder III?" Quote
CaptainStarwind Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 It's actually pretty good, and left me wondering "why the hell didn't they animate THAT instead of Intruder III?" I still wasn't a fan of Trapped. I'll refrain from spoilers, but I'll just say this: if you're going to do a story like THAT, then don't make me feel like I wasted my time reading it when I end the story. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 Two Pre-Flights have come and gone, and most recent is the one that mentions Super and Kai... It ALSO mentions that on 1/7/17 there will be more premieres on Toonami in history, and that is in fact NOT the case, not even on Adult Swim! 1/7/17: DB Super; DBZ KFC; JoJo's Bizarre Adventure; Gundam Unicorn Re:0096; Hunter x Hunter; Naruto Shippuden; and One Piece - 7 premieres. 9/13 & 9/20/14: Attack on Titan; Bleach; Space Dandy; Naruto Shippuden; One Piece; Gurren Lagann; Beware The Batman; and Hellsing Ultimate - 8 premieres! But 1/7/17 will probably be bigger than 9/13 & 9/20/14! Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 Did I mention that thanks to the 12/9/16 edition of Pre-Flight I'll probably be going around singing "Fuck Donald Trump" the rest of the week?? I thought I probably should... Quote
Blatch Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Did I mention that thanks to the 12/9/16 edition of Pre-Flight I'll probably be going around singing "Fuck Donald Trump" the rest of the week?? I thought I probably should... Now I want to find out the context behind that... In other news, it's about that time of the yearly media cycle, so get ready for another Q&A episode in advance of DB Super's premiere. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 January 6th, huh? Gotta say I wasn't expecting that! Last year it was Christmas; this year it's "Old Christmas!" I'm sure we'll also get the show preview of DB Super on that day, right? Or maybe Super 12/30/16; Gundam Unicorn Re:0096 1/6/17? Quote
Blatch Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Super is the bigger overall property, so that will probably get previewed first. Maybe as early as later this week, on 12/17. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 Wouldn't it be funny if Justice League gets its show review while JLA is on Cartoon Network? Quote
Blatch Posted December 17, 2016 Posted December 17, 2016 So in this episode, they discussed .hack//SIGN, and there was a brief Dragon Ball Super teaser. I won't go into detail since I didn't watch it, but that sounds like exciting stuff. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted December 17, 2016 Author Posted December 17, 2016 Scavengers also got a promo! It looks really cool! Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 This week on Pre-Flight: Jason & Gill talk their favorite Toonami moments from 2016! Quote
Sketch Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Next week is the Q&A and starting in January they will not have a show topic anymore. I'm disappointed they are leaving some shows unspoken of. There will be a new segment starting in January but they didn't say what it will be about. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 Remember, guys, we have Q&A tonight! Will Jason & Gill answer YOUR burning question? We'll find out tonight! And of course I'll be participating in the live discussion with my old Boards login like I usually do for Pre-Flight! LIVE UPDATES DRAGONBALL SUPER TOPICALS CONFIRMED!! 3 or more Convention appearances confirmed for 2017! No movies? Let's hope they change their tune by 11/4/17... Everything else was complete crap. Oh wait, NOT OVER YET! The sneak peeks were great, with an actual lineup promo featuring all 8 shows, a DBS Topical, and a Sand Whale & Me trailer! Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 Why does no one talk Pre-Flight anymore!? If you're a true Toonami fan, this week's show is not to be missed! It's favorite staff - made videos! Quote
PokeNirvash Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I think it's the combination of this not technically being the ASMB and Demarco's questionable decision-making and Ben-level wankery that's done it. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 True, but when something shows up on there like old Toonami videos that's worthy of a bump, we owe it that much. Not every week is relevant, but SOME are worthwhile! Quote
Blatch Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Out of something resembling boredom, I did check this week's Pre-Flight to see if there was anything notable, and... well, there were discussions about the Cowboy Bebop movie and the best movies of the Universal Solider franchise, as well as another fucking animated music video a Toonami trailer for Sand Whale and Me. And as for the latter, I can't say that I ever knew what to expect out of it, but I probably wouldn't have anticipated... that. Trust me: You'll know when you see it. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 Bumped due to sudden increase of interest... Quote
The1gairon Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Ah here we go. Thanks for the bump. Choosing "favorite kids movie" was an unexpected topic, though I guess it makes sense because most of what Toonami is showing right now was produced for kids. Quote
ben0119 Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 Bumped due to sudden increase of interest... I haven't lost interest but I had some life stuff going on the past months which caused to lost track with Pre-Flight and a few other things. Hoping to get back to watching it soon. Sucks because I hadn't missed a single episode up until then. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted May 6, 2017 Author Posted May 6, 2017 It's a very Arachnophilic episode of Toonami this week, as Jason & Gill talk about their favorite fictitious spider! Plus Jason reviews Your Name! Quote
The1gairon Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 I'm glad he liked it! He saw the subbed version, which in general are harder to understand to the American viewer, so I was wondering if he would understand what is going on in a move with deep themes. Quote
Blatch Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 There's now an audio-only version of Pre-Flight for those who want a more portable Toonami experience. Check it out here. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 So do y'all think this MomoCon panel will be simulcast tonight on Pre-Flight? It starts at 8:30 PM, apparently, which might mean 30 more minutes of JoJo on the streaming channel. Quote
Mohri Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 So do y'all think this MomoCon panel will be simulcast tonight on Pre-Flight? It starts at 8:30 PM, apparently, which might mean 30 more minutes of JoJo on the streaming channel. I have no idea. I have never watched Pre-flight before, but I am definitely going to be tonight! Quote
AnimationFan14 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 It may depend on if they have any major announcements that they still have up their sleeve or not. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 It's 8:01 PM ET and JoJo is still going on the stream, which means Pre-Flight Presents MomoCon Panel Simulcast begins at 8:30! Meantime, enjoy the bonus episode of JoJo, or something! (It's Episode 19, in case you care) Quote
3ngag3 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 So, old shows that have an HD remaster are a possibility for Toonami. Interesting... Quote
AnimationFan14 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 So, old shows that have an HD remaster are a possibility for Toonami. Interesting... With the soon to be released blu rays of Outlaw Star and The Big O I guess that puts them on the list of contenders Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 Damn right! I really want Outlaw Star to finally be back on [as]! Quote
MasqueradeOverture Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 So, old shows that have an HD remaster are a possibility for Toonami. Interesting... Dope. Quote
The1gairon Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Dagnabbit I missed this ep live, and i forgot that it was the Momocon panel! Oh well. Quote
OwlChemist81 Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 Dagnabbit I missed this ep live, and i forgot that it was the Momocon panel! Oh well. It's ok. You really didn't miss much. Just Lupin at 2 instead of 1:30, and that offhand mention of old remasters we'really probably reading too much into! Quote
The1gairon Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 It's ok. You really didn't miss much. Just Lupin at 2 instead of 1:30, and that offhand mention of old remasters we'really probably reading too much into! Oh crud Ima have to watch Lupin LATER in the night?? Wonder how that came about. Quote
AnimationFan14 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Oh crud Ima have to watch Lupin LATER in the night?? Wonder how that came about. Perhaps they shared our opinion of not wanting Hunter x Hunter moved down any later into the night But didn't share our opinion of wanting Tokyo Ghoul moving to the 2am slot. So they decided to stick a brand new Lupin series at 2am instead for some reason Quote
Jman Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Perhaps they shared our opinion of not wanting Hunter x Hunter moved down any later into the night But didn't share our opinion of wanting Tokyo Ghoul moving to the 2am slot. PokeNirvash Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Stupid. Hunter should be in the graveyard slot. Well the actual content of the Yorknew arc and Viz's contract with Toonami says otherwise. Quote
Blatch Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 So the panel turned out to be a gigantic can of nothing. I shouldn't be surprised at this. At least now The Big "O" airing at 3:00 is definitely feasible. Quote
