ghostrek Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) This is why I did not enjoy the 4th of July this year. Traditionally, American traditions often come from marginalized groups, which usually fit into a racial category. However, my group struggles to find stories of heroism or anything to feel proud of. Instead, we have to acknowledge that many of us were part of a program that resembles a disguised eugenics effort. I wonder how many of those individuals truly deserved some kind of medal for their bravery. Edited 1 hour ago by ghostrek 1 Quote

Insipid Posted 59 minutes ago Posted 59 minutes ago Why didn't you just say that right away in the original thread instead of building it up like some stupid anime plot? This writing is so bad. Just start the filler arc already. 1 1 Quote

It's a difficult and sensitive topic for me, especially as a military history enthusiast. It feels like putting motor oil in a microwave—completely out of place. As a member of the cognitively disabled community, I have mixed feelings about this issue. Since this program was established 60 years ago, people like me, in my opinion, have ended up worse off. Of course, I am also judging based on my own life experiences as a rural American. Mean, . It's really about an hour. Do I have a place in this Society Edited 43 minutes ago by ghostrek 1 Quote

And if you spent half the energy that you spent whining finding and working with an advocacy group, you'd probably get a lot more done in terms of increased public awareness and improved conditions. And I don't mean that you have to make it a career, but for example, when was the last time that you did a 5k walk for a mental health cause? When was the last time that you tried to find a local organization to volunteer with? 1 2 Quote

Do I have a place in this Society Lets clear somethings up: Why do you think you're cognitively disabled? That term specifically refers to someone who can't interact with others, as in someone who is non-verbal. You would not be posting here if you were actually cognitively impaired - you wouldn't even be on the internet. 1 3 Quote

Disability Act rights are independent of any specific diagnosis; they exist to give people access to the same resources that someone who doesn't share that particular disability. "Retard" is a pejorative slur - it is meant as a personal insult and is indefensible. Neither is a clinical diagnosis or has anything to do with how you see yourself and why you think you can't connect with people. Why do you think you're "cognitively disabled" when you are not, in fact, cognitively disabled? 2 Quote

There are levels of cognitive disability, impairment, whatever term. I don't think there is a specific term to refer to that level of handicap unless we drudge up some outdated derogatory terms. Besides the point, I feel like I am helping him create a persecution complex now. I have been empathetic, but I'm not gonna pretend to know what to do therapeutically.
