ICE Raids Hyundai's Georgia Plant to Enforce Foreign Worker Laws

Idk how I feel about this. Sounds like the plant was subcontracting its construction workforce to get around having to hire US citizens. The company is trying to distance itself from those arrested claiming “they don’t work for Hyundai”

that said it does seem extreme to actually raid the plant when I’m sure there are bigger fish to fry.

I feel that the plant was raided because its a direct competitor to things that Melon Husk has his grubby little fingers in - batteries and electric cars.

Otherwise, if they really wanted a large scale 'bust', they'd raid the meat processing plants scattered across South Dakota for a start - massive amounts of so-called illegals working 14 hour shifts in unsafe conditions. Kids cleaning carving machines. But they won't because SD is solidly red regardless of what the actual voters want.

Idk they probably got massive incentives to operate in GA with the expectation they would hire people living in the US. I don’t think comparing this to meat processing plants already existing for decades is the same thing. I’m not saying it warranted a raid but I’m not feeling sorry about this either.

South Korea is very pissed about this, and this disincentivizes foreign investment into American manufacturing. I think it's only a matter of time before Trump does something to really piss Japan off, and then the two have the friendliest relations in decades. India and China, rivals, are clearly warming up to each other now.

Well done, MAGA . . . Make Asia Great Again.

I also tend to think this is a somewhat legitimate action, only because I can see first hand how hiring foreign workers in the construction industry can have unintended consequences.  We've had undocumented workers from Mexico and Central America for as long as I can remember, and it shows in the level of institutional knowledge that those workers bring to a job site, similarly to migrant workers who have been working our fields since Guadalupe-Hidalgo. But, the influx of workers from the Far East, specifically China, poses a bigger problem because we don't have the same level of comfort with them.  There are plenty of good construction workers from Asia here, but you're not likely to get them for the bargain basement prices that make hiring undocumented workers so attractive.  Chances are the workers in question were imported specifically because they were expendable, not because they were cheaper qualified and experienced (in the US) workers.
