That was comically stupid.

I can see what it is.  It's a sprinkler system that protects whole towns.  It has an adequate water supply, even in draught conditions.

The vary same thing could have been installed in LA, with just the right budgeting and management of resources.

So.....You think the sprinkler system used in a singular small, historic village to protect a tourist attraction is a feasible solution to the entirety of California.

Pull out some of that arithmetic and tell me just how cost effective that would be.

Here, I'll even save you some time...the village is about 140 square miles.... California is 165K square miles.

Be sure to show your work.

Crunch the numbers, what would it cost? You’ve obviously done a lot of research on the subject.

The historic area shown in the video is much smaller than one square mile . . . I could say more, but I'll leave the rest to our expert. Hopefully, he can enlighten us.

Never mind the costs.  It saves lives as well as property.  I thought you cared about lives.

Anyway, these systems are likely to start popping up like mushrooms all over Japan, which itself is about the same size as California.  Yes, I mean EXACTLY the same way that things like high speed rail have popped up there.

Now, I'm sure California could find the money for this new system, just by cutting all the waste and fraud out of the existing budget.

Because Japan has such a high risk of wildfires spreading, right? Japan is famous for its deserts and droughts like California, yes. Those sprinklers must have nothing to do with the material and everything to do with an American-centric view of everything that happens in the world. Japan definitely shouldn't put more money into less pressing matters like earthquakes, tsunamis, and typhoons.

Why I fathomed to reason people having faith in a failed businessman bankrupting casinos is now beyond me when the answer was always disappointingly obvious: sheer stupidity and bold contempt for actual expertise.

Trump sold two casinos to Carl Icahn, who continued to operate them while renting Trump's name on a franchise basis.  It is Carl who proceded to neglect both properties to a point of multiple and quite serious building and safety code violations and ultimately brought them into bankruptcy.  Trump had to litigate against Carl to have his name removed ftom the properties.  Carl closed the properties after one of the unions involved with them went on strike.  Carl refused all parts of the proposed union contract, including pay and health benefit increases.  None of that had been Trump's decision to make.

The whole nation of Japan is about the size of California.  The village is a testing ground.  If it works there, it will spread nation wide.

Oh, yes.   Besides the fact the system is itself a novelty,  just the idea that you could build a sprinkler system so big it could chase off them whippersnapper kids out of an entire fucking town has some obvious appeal to a certain demographic.

The entire nation of Japan is fewer square miles than Cali, and unlike Cali, the government there knows how to manage a budget and maintain a capital reserve for such projects.  When the money isn't sufficient to do it all at once, it could be done incrementally, a few areas at a time.

So you're going to abandon the other thread to dig in this bootyhole of a thread again.

So, you are well versed in the governing bodies of both Japan and California but your cig guy can possibly go to the other side of town.

Let me ask you something...

Why does Japan have high speed rail covering most of it while America can't even manage to re-pave Interstate 80?

Does the high-speed rail put out fires?

Stay on topic.

It IS on topic.  Japan always finds the money for worthehile projects while nothing anywhere in America does.

As a retired and independently wealthy man of culture, it seems the smart action would be to move to Japan.

I'm pretty sure it does a much better job at both than just emptying all the reserviors into the ocean, as Cali had done.

We don't empty reserviors into the ocean.  We don't even empty reservoirs.

Then why were the reservoirs bone dry when the fires started?

They weren't.  Only one was depleted for maintenance, and it was depleted through normal use.

You're not keeping track?  That's on you, pal.

What's it going to cost to implement a full system of sprinklers throughout the entire foothill region of Los Angeles?

Meh, waste of time to argue. I'm honestly happy someone like Packard exists . . . the power of personal narrative and confirmation bias explains much of Republican rationale. And stupidity.

Just wait and see.  The Japanese want to know how well the test spot works.

They never run out of funding for innovations.

No one told me that.  I live here and my gf is a civil engineer working for the city of Los Angeles.
