So the cure isn't already made and distributed, if I understand correctly, given Skinner just wrote the chemical formula on a piece of paper.  There shouldn't be enough time to manufacture and ship it out everywhere.

Wait so how did the cure get made and distributed so fast?  Didn't it sat there were 4 hours left before?

That cop got credit booo lol.

That douche bag going to prison.

Who is the girl with Donald McDonald?

LOL a pain cult?

there would have been enough survivors among those with analgesia that the human race would eventually have repopulated. no big loss

Also anyone who refused to take it or didn't have a need, and uncontacted tribes etc.  Don't know if painkillers go against anyone's religious beliefs.  Especially why would young people need painkillers?

Probably one of the worst in my book, but it's probably being graded harshly against Watanabe's other works.  Too much contrivances and plot stupidity.  Every Episode was a wild goose chase that lead nowhere, with Skinner being easily found after finding the hacker at the last minute.  I definitely don't put the characters up there with Bebop or Champloo etc.

Show would have been better with the team just going on various missions, without the stupid virus plot.

I dunno, that felt underwhelming. So the government was making a bioweapon out of his research, and his idea was to give the stuff secretly to everyone by making a drug with that could pass as a harmless extremely popular painkiller? Okay, all so the government couldn't cover up its existence? Weren't there any other ways to get the truth out to people without putting everyone in mortal danger? I mean geez.

Only recently realized how badly I dropped the ball on this one.. I'd largely written this off as out of reach without cable, since it wasn't on CR (and I'm not subbed elsewhere..). And just remembered. The [as] app does eventually offer eps to watch for free. A bit delayed. But eventually. Kinda looks like maybe some of them have already shown and are now locked, tho. Maybe get to watch the first episode at least....

Most of those are C's in my opinion and while I think overall this show is probably also a C that ending was oddly satisfying. It had possibly the best ending a Toonami original has had since IGPX, though Housing Complex might be in contention depending on if the massive info dump sat well with you or not. I'm just kinda baffled at that because this show dragged it's feet so much and I don't really think it lived up to it's potential at all but the ending worked for me despite that. They gave it finality but left it open to continue and that's rarely been executed well by a Toonami original.

But I do think they didn't do a good job with explaining Skinner's motivations by the end and why would INSCOM wait so long to tie up their loose ends and not manage to track down Skinner at that homeless camp in all those years? Having all 5 of them being at the airport incident is corny but at least the Lazarus name finally makes sense.

The assassin plot line was completely pointless and added nothing to the story aside from a cheap attempt at giving this show a Vicious. Every bit of it feels as though it was lifted from another story. Ultimately the fight ends with him accidentally crushing himself in the rubble from an explosion he caused.

Back to our actual plot, it just felt like a big fat deus ex machina to quickly end the show because it had wasted the first half of the episode on a tangent plot line. Here’s the cure, also you five were at the airport the day the king of morons tried bringing strange powder onto a flight and that makes you immune or something idk.

Absolute waste of time. I know a lot of fanboys don’t want to hear it, but this show, along with his other string of recent flops, should really cast doubt on Watanabe’s “legend” status in regards to anime. He got lucky with Bebop and Champloo, it’s been nothing but trash since those, and each one is a little worse than the last.

You did not just call Carol and Tuesday, Kids on the Slope and Space Dandy trash. They weren't hits but C&T and KotS are good and Dandy is the best thing he ever put his name on (I contend it's really more Shingo Natsume's show though). Terror in Resonance left me wanting but those other shows were fantastic by original anime standards. I don't even think Bebop and Champloo are his best works just his most popular by a wide margin.

But as for this show, it's better than TiR but none of the others because it didn't use it's time well at all and basically never gave me a reason to feel for these characters even if I did ultimately like the group dynamic. You don't usually have to worry about a Watanabe show wasting episodes they tend to have some something worth showing  or saying even if they don't move story forward but the side tracking in this show got frustrating and finding out they were so close all along makes it feel all the more pointless. There was world building more so for the sake of world building and nothing else. I also don't like the assassin side plot. It felt needless as soon as it was introduced. There were plenty of other ways to give Axel a good opponent and paint the military in a bad light. And of course they kinda tried to give him some sympathy at the end which was giving me Fena flashbacks.

I’ll admit I forgot about Dandy, it’s easy to since there were so many guest animator episodes, it doesn’t feel like a pure Watanabe project. The other two I did not forget about, they were steaming garbage, though in direct comparison to Lazarus, they look like masterpieces. Carol and Tuesday in particular had many fans wondering if Watanabe had lost his touch.

Lazarus wasted 11 out of 13 episodes on meaningless side quests. Maybe they were meant to world build, but they fell short of that goal. Then when it tries to cram the story into the last 10 minutes, it gets even worse. Oh haha, all you guys were at the airport that day but don’t remember and also I didn’t tell you till now even though it’s very important info. And how convenient the 5 of you grew up to be a parkour escape master, a Russian spy super soldier, black, a super hacker, and good at crossdressing. How convenient none of you 5 random people didn’t grow up into a mailman or something.

I do find it amusing that Toonami has two separate originals under its belt now with a pointless assassin side plot. Though credit to Lazarus, the assassin actually showed up in the story, unlike Fena where he is mentioned, then forgotten about till the epilogue.

He still has Macross Plus to his credit, which is still a great production.

There's no getting around it.  This isn't very good.  Toonami originals aren't very good.  Their attempts to keep up with the proverbial Jonses in Netflix have led to a lot of subpar projects where it's clear there's too many cooks in the kitchen and a lot of little touches that make it worse.  Arguably, the only original to really escape this is Shenmue, and that's because it was a rather faithful adaptation of two video games.

My dude, if you're going to sit there and call Kids on the Slope of all things "steaming garbage" with a straight face, then frankly you shouldn't be speaking critically about, well, anything. It was a masterful piece of work, widely considered one of the best shows of its year, and it even wound up on some best-of-the-decade lists. And while Carole & Tuesday maybe didn't quite hit those same heights, at the bare minimum it was a solid, competent show with great music. This series aside, anyone claiming that Watanabe "lost his touch" had no idea what the hell they were talking about.
