discolé monade
This week, nearly 40 scientists — including two Nobel laureates — raised a chilling alarm. The creation of “mirror life” — synthetic organisms made of these reversed molecules — could lead to catastrophic consequences. Their nearly 300-page report, published in Science, is unequivocal: research on mirror microbes should stop before it’s too late.

So we are able to fight off bad things faster and adapt to even mutations because we are technically the same. Scientists playing with mirror lifeforms do so by reversing that foundation. Reversing that foundation technically makes those things same but very different - our systems wouldn't recognize a mirrored form of something bad. And since mutations happen all the time, those mirrored lifeforms could end up mutating into something we wouldn't even pretend to fight against because we couldn't. Mirrored lifeforms could end up being our engineered extinction.

Dark_Cloud_Overhead
At first my reaction was -- wonderful, another way for humans to destroy themselves -- but a decade away? ~yawn~ Yeah, the way things are going I don't think we're gonna make it that far, so then nothing to really worry about. 2

Every time I try to imagine being aware and alive but unable to control anything I do, freaks me right tf out. I see a lot of products like coffee made with cordyceps, there must be a lot of different types, but still I get fafo vibes 😆 1

Between Last of Us and a fungus that took over and killed a tree in my front yard, I see it as an us vs them situation and I’m conflicted about stuffed mushrooms. Also I’ve been smoking. If that wasn’t obvious. 1

That's far more rational than my uneasiness about dogs with bees in their mouth, and when they bark they shoot bees...I'll never forgive Matt Groening for planting this nightmare in my young, impressionable brain
