Jason DeMarco produced “Lord of the Rings: The War of The Rohirrim” film tracking for major box office bomb

I dig it!!

Will it be the massive success the Peter Jackson films were? Doubtful.

But it COULD give Demon Slayer: Mugen Train a run for its money as highest-grossing animated film of the 2020s. (Unless something already has...)

Saw the preview for this when I went to the movie theater the other day. I was thinking it was gonna be live-action honestly because all I saw was the title before. Not really disappointed at all though, cuz it still looks like it's gonna be really good. Seeing that Peter Jackson has been involved with it as an executive producer and that it's being directed by Kamiyama who did stuff like Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. also instills me with a lot of confidence it's gonna have a solid story and be well worth checking out.

Executive Producer Jason DeMarco.

What an awful first example for people to see. The first 15 seconds of this “animation” is a blatant stillframe with the mouth animated and nothing else. That might be ok for some throwaway TV anime, but something you expect people to cough up for to see in theaters shouldn’t look like this.

It DOES get better after that though.

That seemed like pretty significant moment and all I could think was "you couldn't have done something more dynamic with the posing or the camera position?"

The trailers have shown off some pretty nice stuff but that scene ain't it.

Oh no no no, we aren’t doing this again. Fool me once with Uzumaki, shame on you. Promos and teasers always wheel out the best shots to lure people in. If that is what they consider teaser worthy, I shudder to think of what kind of PowerPoint the rest of the film is.

Box office predictions are showing a bigger bomb than Joker 2.  Less than $10 million domestic.  For reference, the Demon Slayer recap film pulled down $11.4 million opening weekend.  Even a Solo Leveling recap film still pulled $2.4 million domestic over the weekend despite a relatively low amount of theaters (it bested the indie release Y2K to be #8 at the box office).

This film might be DeMarco’s last stand.  Honestly, I could see him being fired over it as the scapegoat.

I mean, was anyone seriously expecting this to be a smash success? Demarco'll skate by like he has in the past, that I can seriously expect.

The initial estimates were for $10-$12 million.

It’s now tracking for $5-$6 million opposite a $30 million budget, a pittance by modern Hollywood’s bloated standards, but he may not make a third of that when you add in theater take and marketing.

Smash success? Not really. But it needs to sync up with its internal predictions. If they were expecting 10-12 and it’s looking more like 5-6, that’s gonna be a problem. Maybe not enough of a problem to get him fired, but enough of one to take his keys to originals projects away.

A track record so important for the future of Toonami that it has to be renamed to notify that. Ouch.

And yet, I don't know what would happen if DeMarco got DeMoted. Or worse, fired. There's a myriad of ways this could go, not all of them good.

But with Invincible Fight Girl not even in Max's Top 10 for weeks, Dragon Ball Daima probably becoming a Crunchyroll exclusive, Creature Commandos needing a Tenchi-style edit in its first episode, and the general decline of entertainment, it makes even the smaller bits of good news feel better.
