I thought it was heat lightning at first but then I got an alert on my phone telling me to stay away from doors and windows and unplug appliances, computers, power tools and TV sets.

can you hear or see it right now?

YES TO BOTH...although it does seem to be letting up now.  Before it was crackling, booming, and lighting up the sky all at the same time.  Now it's starting to look like heat lighting again, just the light and no thunder.

I'm glad you're okay. Remember when a tornado rip through my neighborhood back in January? Not fun at all.

Yeah, that was scary as hell.  I'm glad you were okay, I was worried about your grandma.

I was at Disneyland one time when thunderstorms rolled through.  It was an experience to say the least.

Were people huddling all over en masse?   Or...being escorted off rides n stuff?

Huddled under covers.  It started raining heavy and there weren’t many places to get protection.

I love severe storms!

It is best to just go run around in them like it were gentle snow ahahaha

it's been thundering on and off here for weeks now lol

I've never really actually been worried about being struck by lightning, but i understand the safest place to be is a car, because the metal redirects lightning around you and the tires keep it insulated from the ground. unless it explodes. then you're screwed

It's been storming where I am, too. My middle dog is afraid of loud noises - sirens, fireworks...storms - so he startled awake from wherever he'd been sleeping in the house and came running to us for cuddles like a toddler. :LithiumSmileyLaugh:

:LithiumSmileyLaugh: You didn't watch the video, did you. It looks like the people got out safely but the inside of the car became ingulfed with flames.  I've been very close in proximity to lighting making contact twice now.  Once on a bridge, which nearly made me shit my pants :LithiumSmileyLaugh: and once in a cabin on a lake.  Pretty sure Thor or Taranis is hunting me down.

If I could, I'd use a Vibranium shield to protect you from Thor's hammer. ("Phrasing!" lol)

It’s okay, it’s on discord and the phone internet is still working. And it’s an RP session.

Fine. I guess I volunteer as the human sacrifice. :(

Calm down, it's almost raspberry season here.  I'll give them my first harvest...maybe I'll even make a statue of a ram out of the ramble to burn with the berries...which won't be easy because of the massive amount of thorns but will probably look cool with it's red coloring.

Yeah, but if I sacrifice myself now, I can come back as a goat later...or something.

totally fair, and we have some options. while some gods require sacrifices be willing participants, others accept war prisoners as tribute. i guess it depends on what kind of god you've angered

Well...let's hope it wasn't Taranis...Celtic sacrifices were a bit gruesome.

could also be Tlāloc though, which means you'd need a LOT more people to sacrifice

also what's with thunder deities and names that start with T?

Well shit then

Aaaaaaaand the Viking Age makes its way into this thread too. xD  My guess with the T and thunder gods is actually the 'Th' and thunder gods.  The codex runicus (runes) is one of the oldest alphabets with the third rune (þ) giving a "th" sound.  The rune þ is pronounce "thorn", which was the Old Norse word for Thunder/Thor.  Considering how far the Norse traveled and that the codex runicus was used throughout Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia as late as the 18th century I'd say their word for thunder had some sort of influence.  The "th" was lost in antiquity (thorn became torden in Scandinavia and tonitrus in Rome) and runes were done away with almost entirely in the late 15th century when most of Europe adopted the roman alphabet.  HOWEVER the anglo-saxons brought it back at some point...which is how we have Thursday.

Although...Tlāloc was probably just coincidentally T >.> lol

It looks like the Aztec word for thunder is "liztli"? Or "tlatlatzīni", meaning 'to thunder.'
