  1. 1. Would you cover a shift if your pets were missing?

    • Yes. Work is more important than some manjy disobedient animals.

    • The fact that they are loose is on you, and as a pet owner they are your responsibility and should be put first regardless of the inconvenience.

I'm new to this job, and it's 'only' retail. Plus I'm not on the schedule and I already pulled an unexpected double yesterday to close with the manager... Which is probably what gave my dogs plenty of time to bust out and get caught in a severe thunderstorm flash flood. I told them I was trying to deal with this atm and they could probably tell I was out of breath from running in the heat. At some point I usually decide to roll around on foot if I don't find my dogs so I can scope out alleys and hard to see areas easier.. Idk would you put work first or your pets? It's starting to look like I'm not going to find them for a while at best anyway..

I was there from 7:30am until 9:30pm yesterday and these guys supposingly only hired me part time smh. xD

  • PhilosipherStoned changed the title to Would you cover a shift/ take a call in if your dogs were missing?

I picked dogs over work, but there's a lot of variables. Like if they're big dogs that could run onto someone's property and eat their small child, how likely you think it is for these dogs to find their own shelter in your area, if they need shelter in the first place like if it's extremely cold or something, if theyre the kind of dogs thatll come back on their own, etc.

I searched ever since I got home, and during the flash flood/short severe storm. I use a facebook group dedicated to helping my towns residents find their wayward fur babies and someone had reported seeing two dogs matching their description last night running around the local duck pond just before the storm got bad and flooded that whole area a good bit.. Luckily I have a raised dodge ram on 20's and I just surfed through it looking for them during the storm.. No luck though. That was about at 11:15pm last night too. 🙃

Well what worries me is they are border collie mixes that are a bit bigger than your mainstream pet store variety due to breeding.. They've been known to try to herd cars.. Only caught them doing that once.. I do regularly  catch them around the duck pond most likely terrorizing ducks even though according to last night if that was them they were being good doggos and just following the joggers path the city recently put around the pond because I do regularly walk them around it.

I've had people call animal control on them before because they chased a kid on a bicycle.. My neighbors are related to the kid and said they wouldn't be surprised if the kid provoked them that time, and wanted to be chased for fun. (He's also 'ding dong ditched' my house a few times during this pandemic with his friends since they were bored). My neighbors know my dogs are well trained and try to play with their kids all the time pretty gently unless provoked..

So I mean I knew the answer already I guess at least for me.. Just thought I might be over-reacting. They usually take care of themselves and end up home, but I can find them half way... I mean miles away from home..and one time across the busy main street of this town sniffing out a burger joint like they were harold and Kumar..  because they are highly active dogs that like to move constantly, and they can get into trouble easy becuase they got that (cat like) border collie curiousity that makes them seek out unfamiliar things for fun..

I don’t work when I’m not on the schedule, okay Becky?

That would've been the third time I worked when I wasn't scheduled.. At some point it gets like "Why even have a schedule?" They werent really pushing it though they just needed a driver to cover for a few hours because of a call in, but if I would've went I would've missed out on checking out the facebook tip and I might not even have found my dogs yesterday. >_>
