Yeah but then I gotta find everything and then determine whether I can use a free service or if I really want to contribute to TurboTax because it's evil or go like a tax preparer route or what have you.

I keep waiting to see if I'm gonna get an actual form for my IRA before I submit my returns. I use the same service for my IRA and a personal investment account and they gave me a form for the investment account already but not the IRA and they claim all forms are sent in February if you need them. I know the amount I contributed to it but idk if I need anything else. I didn't make any withdraws from it or anything but I did get some dividends that were just reinvested.

Is it a Roth IRA or traditional? If it's Roth then they shouldn't send you anything. If it's traditional maybe call them to ask for an emailed copy

Roth. Cool guess I can submit my tax return now.

The only thing I got was form 5498 which you don't submit with your returns. You may want to contact TurboTax to be sure but I didn't receive anything for mine

I used credit karma bro it's actually free for state and federal turbotax always charges me like $40 for their ""free"" version

Credit karma is being bought out by TurboTax's parent company

All of my stuff goes to my tax guy.

Then I write a check and am sad.

i do my own taxes. the only PITA part is doing the 1099 B/DIV/INT. this year was a bit more complicated because of the job change. going to use the money to pay myself back after medical bills and most of the rest is going to my IRA or other investment accounts, the few dollars leftover will go to the regular savings account. i rarely actually ever spend my refund.

Both my IRAs tell me to go to their respective websites to see if I will have any forms.  I've never had any.

I've been using H&R Block because my dad used to work there/the tax pro knows us. We have it set up where they just take the fees out of the State and/or Federal return, although usually State is more than enough to cover it.

i'm kind of glad it's not that way for me. i hate dealing with my normal crap much less trying to guess how much the current year is going to be

Used H&R once.  The person helping me was obviously a temp/trainee.  She just read me questions from a book & plugged stuff in a computer.  I could friggin' do that & have used Tax software ever since.  I think I tried H&R software once, but found TaxCut (Intuit) simpler.
