MHA gets in hot water over character pun gone wrong

Short version - A pun for a Doctor accidentally reflected the name of an infamous Japanese WWII doctor who participated in human experimentation.

Shounen Jump realized this was done out of error, and to appease their international audience, asked the author to change the name.

Outrage mobs want an apology.  Haters of woke crowds consider this a betrayal and bending the knee.

And the author’s rep has taken a major hit.

I dont get the hubbub

Japan has a rather...contentious relationship with China and Korea over WWII crimes and their continued refusal to acknowledge them.  To so casually have someone named after a war criminal, even if accidentally, stirs up a lot of negative feelings about Japan’s continued denial of those war crimes.

What the fuck is "bending the knee" and why do all these crybaby anti-SJW dipshits keep screaming it?

It is a submissive stance that comes frm ye olden times when addressing a king or emperor one would typically kneel before them you have to "bend the knee" the kneel before the king

Okay so that makes sense, but I'm still coming up empty on how the term appears to have been co-opted exclusively by oblivious dudebros whining about basically any decision they don't love that a creator or company makes about content.

I think its cuz they see it as appeasement to a politically correct strawman or something Idk just guessing

@Jman Did you seriously just link to a video by that YellowFlashGuy anti-SJW fucktard?  One of the idiots that kept defending Vic Mignogna?  Basically just stirring up shit and riling up his fan base (and he wasn't the only one) to profit off the whole situation, but those Youtubers made things worse and more toxic with what they were doing.  I think it might be safe for us to just disregard anything you say going forward and write you off completely if you are using this guy as a source or messenger for anything, or being a fan of his.

Not watching the video because I know how much of an idiot he is and don't want to give him the view or pollute my recommended, but if he goes into what I think he does, because these anti-SJWs are predictable simpletons, this decision would have absolutely nothing to do with the EBUL ESS-JAY-DUBBAYUUZ, which isn't even a thing in Japan, but, well, what you got into with your later post.

And if it's because "to hear the other side," no, we really didn't, need to hear more idiocy from these idiots.  We can probably guess what they will complain about without even looking up any of their posts or videos, because as I said, they are predictable simpletons.  They are not worth the time of day.  They are on the level of flat earthers as far as who should be considered worth being listened to and engaged with.

And what proof do you have of the author's reputation taking a major hit?  And for what, making the name change or using that name in the first place?

Fucking Special Edition.  And those added lines are so terrible and ruin the scene.

Backlash continues as Chinese company Tencent (a Chinese mega Corp with a disturbing amount of influence in digital platforms) delisted MHA and ceased production on a smartphone game they were making.

I thought it was a reference to Colin Kaepernick for kneeling during the National Anthem since people offended by that and anti-SJW grifters tend to overlap.

Idk about that but "bend the knee" and "kiss the ring" are pretty old, common colloquialisms means pretty much the same thing the way I understand it

Really just means people are submissive and obedient in this case submitting to the SJW agenda or whatever

And in context tho not always the case it tends to be used in a derogatory way like most of the time when people say "bend the knee" they are saying the person is being submissive to an evil or maleficent entity/party it happened like every episode in Saoilr Moon and stuff like that

Oddly enough could not find many pictures for reference but when I think of "bend the knee" my mind goes straight to this, or Darth Vader or maybe the only good example I can think is like people kneeling before Aragon in LotR stuff

Some cursory search resuslts suggested by Google had Game of Thrones in it too so maybe it was in that show and has had a surge in popularity lately Idk didnt wathc it myself

Fuck Tencent and fuck the Chinese government.

Also not really sure losing a mobile game is such a big blow.

Did you know that there's a nifty spoiler button right at the top of the post box, so that you're not just showing off things that won't be in the show for another two seasons like a jackass?

what crawled up your ass and died?

not a single thing about the images gives away anything plot related. It just shows a character with no context at all.

Spoiler

Well it kinda implies/states the other character featured is a bad guy.

Though if you ask me, Maruta/Kyudai deserved it from the moment he told Deku he was quirkless.

not necessarily, from a certain point of view.

Spoiler

and there's the theory that Deku indeed had a quirk, but Dr. Eggman lookalike stole it / had All for One steal it. Many people assume that Deku had to have had a quirk considering the whole thing with previous OfA users, while All Might never experienced that, while Gran torino mentioned his master talked about experiencing something like that. People assuming it being a case where with All Might admitting that he was quirkless as grounds for it not affecting him, and with the reveal the Eggman is evil makes people believe Deku might have had one.

that said though, even if Deku did have a quirk I doubt it would have been anything interesting. his mom could float things towards her, while his dad could breathe fire or something like that. pretty lame by themselves, although if Deku were to regain something along those lines, since OfA would increase the strength of those moves, it could be a big deal.

FATE, an entire mobile game franchise, has had at least one anime adaptation made per season for several years straight by now.

Mobile games ARE big.

Fate is not "an entire mobile game" franchise.  It started as a visual novel series that got adapted into anime.  Then it eventually got a mobile game and that recently got turned into an anime.  The keystone of the franchise is not some mobile game, even if it makes a ton of money because it probably uses predatory monetization like a lot of mobile games do.  If Fate lost that mobile game it would be fine, and so will My Hero Academia.
