Do you know how to code?

Why? You gotta slow down.. coding history is an important aspect of coding if you ask me, and I'm pretty sure I can't code worth a shit right now.

Morse code is hardly relevant when it comes to todays standards...k I feel like I'm reciting a dumb ass text book I payed way too much for now. Wait..

Maybe the dumb IT college classes I've taken so far just sucked.. Yeah... Not enough CODE>

Fortran?  Cobol?  Assembly?  VBA?  SQL?  Pascal?  Foxpro?  Algol?  Linux?

Foxpro? Come on man, you know that company has been out of business for over a decade. Cobol and Fortran are old as fuck but at least it's still used on ancient mainframes. foxpro hasn't been used widely since Win2k at best

Ever heard, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?  My former employer is in the midst of having everything converted to SQL/GCP.  In going through an old legacy program, it was found that a good part was written in Foxpro.  Nobody remains from those days - last I knew, they were talking about building a similar program from scratch because nobody could figure the thing out.

And most of those companies are dealing with people my age who don't want to learn it. Now they have to code new programs or hire expensive contractors. Cobol is old incomprehensible garbage and so is Fortran

So Cobol's got a learning curve or what? I can't say I've even heard of this one sadly.

it's very old and most of the code has been running since at least the 70s. it's very low level, specifically for mainframe, and no one wants to maintain it.
