As a hero, the symbol of peace, something about just letting her go doesn't seem like it should sit right. Sure, it was the right thing to do in the situation, given context, Deku's really not where he needs to be to take that on. But it seems kinda dumb that his whole anxiety thing wasn't about whether or not he did the right thing.
