The animation itself actually has a lot of nuance to it. Check the ease out of the car when it halts, and her hair waving. Definitely a step up from RWBY.  But I think what people have a problem with is the model. She doesn't have the body/face/eye proportions of a serious, realistic crime drama. They're the proportions of a damn Disney princess. Was GitS ever for kids?? I half-expect a lizard to pop out and sing a musical number.

Well let's not forget how CGI heavy Stand Alone Complex was in the first place, but then again it had one of the best directors and music composers in the game and Production IG was on top of their game back then, they haven't been the same since WIT branched off.

Why the fuck does Netflix intend to make all their original anime look THE LEAST like all the other mainstream anime as possible!? Most of their biggest hitters are poorly animated in CGI! There's a stop-motion one too!  The only Netflix anime that are still done the traditional ways are the ones that they got wholesale from an outside source (Little Witch Academia, Devilman Crybaby, AICO, etc).  For all their talk about supporting anime and "helping" the industry for the sake of the fans, they sure don't wanna stick with all the negative stigmas that come with it!  Hypocrites.

Also, I'm wondering if this GitS series would benefit from the CGI being rendered and animated more like a cel-shaded style instead, like Land of the Lustrous. At least it wouldn't look so wooden.

There's a reason Enter the Anime is so widely mocked by those who bothered to sit through at least part of it.

Yeah, looks terrible.

But. And I'm not using this to defend the terrible, and it's not enough to make it less terrible.

But. Looking like a Disney princess almost sorta kinda fits with the Major's approach, maybe? Like, isn't it fairly established that at least part of the reason she uses the body model she has is so she can seem innocuous and disarming? Taking advantage of abusing misogynistic misconceptions.

Basically just trying to make up some justification for looking this terrible, tho.

That only holds water if the rest of the characters are designed differently than how the Major is, and the Major is so far the only character that's been revealed in this show!
