Wu-Tang: An American Saga

It's a good show....But let me tell you why I don't like it.

Oh, and you can move it to TV....But I'm doing this here

I hate that so far, it's so Generic.....There is some Character development, but at the end of the day, it's clouded by the cookie cuter "niggas in the hood" aesthetic.  And don't get me wrong, I'm sure lots of hood shit saturated this journey, but It's just becoming another generic hood biopic, and if You have followed the Wu throughout your childhood (which I know you didn't) there is far more interesting shit in their collective lives than selling dope, running from police, shooting niggas, and fucking maggots.

Now I understand, it's a Series...With more episodes to come...I'll accept that, but the focus is on The RZA, and Raekwon so much it's sickening, because they were the ones that had stereotypical hood tales to tell.....Ghost, and Method have much better stories to tell, but they are ignoring all of the positive shit because selling the hood is so much more profitable....And to be frank, they could delve more into OBD for that....But so far, he's no more than an extra so far.

It's just a testament to How far up his ass The RZA is.....this isn't a Wu-Tang story....It's a Bobby Digital story.  But I'll wait to see if he gets out his own ass after 6 episodes

Now I wanna watch this, RZA has always been a bit of a control freak with Wu but I give him credit for getting the group together in the beginning. I heard in the 90s he had a bunch of tapes ready for all the Wu solo acts and they got caught it a fire in his basement, but the solo acts of Wu-Tang, the lopsided releases for certain artists seems a lil shady to me. Like how is Deck one of the best lyricists ever and always puts up some of the best Wu collab verses but his solo career was such a flash in the pan compared to Ghost, Rae, Meth etc. I mean it's definitely not cus he wasn't writing.

Well, I'm only speaking on the show itself.....The actual factual of what we know of how the Wu finally parted ways isn't a part of the show yet.....But if you would like to discuss the Wu and what we all watched happen before Hulu got involved, I agree with you.

Yeah I'm gonna watch it tonight, I was just using it as an example or why I'm not too surprised RZA might be coming off like a limelight hog in it, I'd be surprised if I don't have a similar opinion, but I'll probably keep watching anyways because it's Wu.

Oh, I'm watching....I still need to watch ep 5, so my opinion is based off the first 4 eps and there will be a new one Wednesday, so I'll watch 5 tonight......or tomorrow.

At any rate, that's what it is so far.

And all the post show/mid show commentary is strictly from RZA......I'll just say because the show is still in it's infancy.....But.....well, you'll see...

I guess that is how it ended up, but I really like it....I must be the target demo....sure it could be better, but damn I really love Shameik Moore's Raekwon and that alone is worth the watch

I do hope they expand the other story lines though....the audience is hungry for it

Was thinking of watching this. I like Biggie so I found Wu Tang because of him and I really liked all the clips and themes from old kung fu movies on top of everything else. Admittedly never knew too much about them as a whole, though. Maybe I'll just wait til the whole thing is out before I make a decision.

Shameek's Rae is uncanny.....But still.

This movie was ok.. I watched it and the sequel recently.

I've never been a fan of hiphop documentaries really for the same reason. Like you said they all seem to model shit after the "Boyz in Da Hood" gimmick. So I havent really been excited enough to check out the Wu Tang Saga.

Now that I've watched up to ep 5 my opinion is, not great but still pretty good. Totally share OPs opinion that the series is too Digi-centric but one of the biggest problems I'm having is with Ghostface. I'm not saying the guy isn't a good actor, he might be, but he's definitely miscast as Ghostface Killah, I had to keep reminding myself it's supposed to be him. Apart from those gripes I do think the series has some positive things going for it. The direction is better than I expected it to be, I loved the whole Jah Son in GTA after he gets shot lol and some of the performances are pretty good like the guy who plays Raekwon, ODB and watching rapper Dave East trying to channel Method Man, even when its not spot on his rhymes are still pretty great.
