Cutting back was a bit rough but a friend introduced me to the idea of “Meat Monday”. I can still get my carnivore on but otherwise help the environment. 1

We have more than enough farmable land in the US to provide non meat foods assuming we would not only eat less meat but also less processed grains. Technically Doritos are grains but that’s a lot of processing.

Technically Doritos are grains but that’s a lot of processing. That may work for some (non-meat foods) but some of us can't eat many vegetables. The laundry list of veggies that I cannot handle digestively is huge & sad, I had to give up a lot of things I loved. If it has Fructose, Fructans, Mannitol, Sobitol or anything that the body might convert into one of those, it is verboten.

Do you have to live on a keto style diet? There are some things I can have and there's a couple apps that I can use as a guide. If I slip up & eat something I shouldn't, I can eat "Smarties" to counteract the Fructose. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But eating those isn't exactly a great idea either, since it's glucose. Any form of onion or solid form of garlic, for example, will mean a great deal of abdominal pain (there goes a lot of foods, like Chinese food). Freakin' Apples & Watermelon - nope. Stone fruits - nope. Artichokes, asparagus, broccoli (no stalks, just tops), sweet corn, sweet peas, etc, etc, all nope or so severely limited amounts that "why even bother?". Sweet corn, as an example, only less than a tablespoon might be tolerated according to the app. I kept wondering why I'd get sick for decades, one Dr. misdiagnosed it as an ulcer & the meds he gave me didn't do squat. Some researchers are now thinking that those who think they have allergies to gluten actually have fructose malabsorption.
PhilosipherStoned
Most of the vegatarian/vegan influencers I've looked at either don't know or fail to bring up why "rainforest beef" is even bad. I've come across a few that were able to say yes it's because the powers that be in the meat industry are clearing away rain forest to make way for huge soy bean plantations to feed the livestock that ultimately ends up as their product. One or two veg heads I've seen rant about this even bring up the main point any of them arguing this should be able to bring up.. 70% of the soy in these plantations gets used for livestock feed. I mean obviously the demand for meat is more than the demand for soy boy foods and livestock require way more soy to feed than any human looking for a meat substitute, but the fact is that a lot of the soy and tofu products for human consumption are produced by the same plantations they want to stop.. On to what Tsars point is. The evils of factory farming have been known for a while, but one of those overlooked is that confining the animals to a little pin or cell and modulizing the production of meat removes those grazing animals completely from their role in the natural ecosystem...To get to the point the animals need to be grass fed, and farmed in a way that is supportive of their role in the natural ecosystem. I watched a freaking vegan try to debunk this as an alternative simply because it doesnt fit his influencer agenda of promoting veganism. Regardless of whether or not you want to villify ruminants on the whole global warming issue I've got to bring up the counter points. As humans we could be using our livestock to repair damaged and arable land instead of further destroying it. This guys ted talk is some real food for thought. If you check the updates theres some good scientific counterpoints to his claims of grass fed beef being a complete solution to the problem...That still doesn't mean it isn't something that should be implemented over factory farming, and it doesn't mean that it wouldn't provide amazing benefit to the environment and cut out at least 4 out of 5 of the points every vegan trying to make a call to arms for the rest of us to convert is going to bring up... tsar4
BTW - quite a few Amazonian tribal leaders and more visible spokespeople have been killed down there trying to defend their lands. See "Amazon Watch" on FB if you want to catch up. I started following them because of Chevron's misdeeds there - https://amazonwatch.org/work/chevron.
