Attack on Titan Mid-Season Finale Episode #49 (312) Discussion

Why isn't one stopping us.  We're both tired lmao.

Levi! :D

Eren past his moping finally I think.

Wow... self-awareness, introspection, and character growth.  And Eren laying it all out there.

Who was that that just walked by?

"Some things will be different, some things have changed forever, and we'll make them pay for that."

Would be nice to find the sea and see the rest of the world.

Levi listening...

Was that a glimpse into next week?

April, since we're now in a mid-season break to give them more time to keep up the great animation

Supposedly lots of big action stuff coming now that the politics arc is over, so this seems like good news

Finally an appreciative and pumped up populace!

This being the season break is evil.  Should just call the next part Season 4.  There were also issues with unfinished episodes being rushed out the door with season 1, and season 2 took forever to come out.  Get your shit together, WIT!

Season 2 and 3 were gorgeous though.

April's not too far really. Especially after the 4 year wait for S2 lol.

Yeah I forgot to type it was season 1 had production issues getting the later eps out finished on time.  Maybe they fixed them on disc releases and later streaming versions? Was it 4 years?!  God damn!  How are they still not on top of this?!

I wonder if that wait killed some of the hype and shed some of the fanbase.  Attack on Titan went mainstream and brought in a bunch of first time anime watchers.  I wonder how many of them are still around now though.  It's conceivable they started reading the manga, or started watching other anime and we didn't lose their attention and interest, but I dunno.

WIT Studio definitely has not had their shit together to capitalize on the success of AoT as they should have.  Unless the manga is REALLY slow?

The site that gives everything a B or an A gave it a B? Shocking!

Like I said it's like the 7/10 "bad" game scores LOL.  A B is probably like a C or C- to them. :D

But yeah, they ended the first part of season 3 with a cool down transitional cliffhanger ep.  Not the best way to leave off, but at least it was a good stopping point, and the episode was enjoyable enough for what it was.

Yeah, they fixed some stuff on the blu-rays. That said, I thought season 1 looked pretty great too at the time. The action especially was exciting as hell to watch, so I loved how they animated the battles in S1, even if the art and animation has gotten even better in the two more recent seasons.

It's hard to say since the show is still huge, even if some have gone on to read the manga either instead of watching or are doing both.

Yeah I quite liked this ep as a cool down and get ready for the next phase type episode even if it wasn't a typical bombastic season finale. Some nice character moments in the prep. And some nice hype with them getting those cheers and heading out with the music.

I'm feeling tense though now with how upbeat those final moments were as they left! That usually means brutal trouble is coming, like apparently in that flash-forward teaser!

Oh yeah it looked great.  I'm just saying, this show has always been plagued by production issues, and it's kind of annoying they haven't gotten a handle on it yet.  Attack on Titan wasn't expected to take off like it did, but now they know the monster that it is and should be ready, and have more experience too.

It was insanely huge with season 1.  Not sure what it's like now, since I don't tend to pay too much attention to fandoms.  If you're a first time anime watcher, how likely are you to then go and read manga for the first time, just because your show stopped, and your first show, at that?  It's a deeper level of getting into it than just watching the anime.  I wouldn't have, but I also didn't even know that what manga was back then or that many of the shows I watched were adapted from them.  I just had to wait for the reruns to end and new eps to show lol.  But, with easier access to information, and the manga itself easier to get ahold of, and the spoiler and leak culture we have these days, maybe new casual first time anime watchers would be more apt to jump into the manga.  I also wonder how this would affect the people who stayed AoT watchers only, if they would have moved on, or waited for the anime, or read the manga.  You know how like a lot of DBZ fans just watch that and never got into more anime like the rest of us (for those of us who had it as their gateway series.)  I don't know how prevalent such a thing would be now, though.  As said, different shows, different people, different times.

Yeah you're right that they probably should be more ready so that production can be more smooth by now with their experience and likely good budgets, but I also think it's a matter of the rather huge production values this show has. It's a really great looking show IMO with a lot of extremely detailed high movement action with that gear and it's probably just really time consuming to do right like this.

I'm fine with waiting until April!

Rating: "B-". At least the community was a bit more generous, giving it a solid 4.0.

When you think about it, a 4/5 is exactly a B- based on old-school scoring scales, wouldn't you agree?

Only one problem with that: failing range is anything less than a 60%, so a 1/5 or a 2/5 would both be failing grades. But I don't think that's how this works. It's implied that a 2/5 is a bit better than a 1/5, which makes 2/5 above failing, or a D+. Then 3/5 is a C+ and 4/5 a B+. Of course 5/5 is an A+!
