That should be a deep seething misanthropic rage, not guilt.

I've never worked retail, but all of the horror stories I've read online over the years from retail workers, I'd probably only be willing to work at music stores since I love music (whether it be CDs or instruments, either one is good). Interacting with the public when the public is being polite is hard enough for me. I can't imagine working with the public when they're being entitled assholes tainted by the slogan "the customer is always right."

Our whole society has this dual concept of treating customers like royalty and workers like shit. So it gets pretty bad.

My job was pretty bad until i got promoted. I worked recycling centers, often alone. People think they can treat us like garbage and we're responsible for keeping everything in order. Gotta make sure the line is orderly, no one's cutting, and everyone is actually in line. Gotta make sure barrels go out in the order of the line because there's not enough for everyone to have what they need.

People get real ugly when you tell them what to do. Then you gotta tell them they didn't get what they thought they were for their cans because they guessed wrong or "last time i got more!".

Basically you gotta piss people off all day. I got used to it. You learn to project an air of command and be assertive. It helps usually when folks realize you don't care what they want.

I guess you can consider watching porn behind your SO's back on her own computer as morally corrupt...

I actually can't remember how that sketch ended. Did he confess? If he did, did she end up throwing him out the window?

I think he mentioned something that made her start sweating profusely

For the first part of your post, it's because customers bring the businesses revenue while workers cause them to lose money in wages, so they're much more willing to pander to the customers than the workers. They also know any customers can just decide to shop elsewhere but the workers need their job so they're less likely to make a stink about being treated unfairly (or in the case of certain customers, perceiving being treated unfairly).

I actually didn't really think much about being nice to retail workers before (although I like to think I was never rude either), until ASMBer farnsworth2 made a certain remark about his retail job. "It only takes one asshole customer to ruin my whole day." (paraphrasing). I don't want to be that asshole. Also, most of the time the retail worker isn't giving the customer what they want, they are just doing their job as instructed, which many angry people seem to not realize.

You're right. It's really not profitable to worry about workers. But it's sad. It's reason no one wants to work hard anymore. People who work hard are looked down on.

And I've never been mean before i started doing this job, but now i try to be extra nice to workers.

People tend to forget exactly that. Workers are doing their jobs, and don't have control over policy. They're also human beings that are just trying to get through the day. If they're a little rude i let it go. If I'm not happy with service I just leave. I don't see a reason to be a dick. Even if its justified.

ok. had to look that up.

she was like 'it's all good as long as it's not that weird shit'

and he's spraying sweat.

then she goes into 'horses. men. men and horses. horses and horses'

and he's like 'baby, it's all good, as long as when we do 'it' i think about you, and not that'

and she's like...'ummm' i guess implying she doesn't think about him when they do the deed.

Also, going back to the Key & Peele sketch... I usually don't feel the need to clear my history, as I don't have any SO and no one in my family touches my comp... But when I do feel the need... instead of "clearing history," I just manually delete each porn "link" or whatever and leave everything else intact. Because if you clear your history, and your history says you've only been to a couple places, anyone who's checking it is going to think, "Oh, he just cleared his history, probably looking at something embarrassing or illegal." But if you do what I do, it appears your history has not been tampered with because you still got a laundry list of a zillion innocuous sites listed, so people looking at your history would just think, "Heh, I guess he doesn't watch internet porn."

Im a customer service rep...worked retail in the past ..not much different. It takes a special kind of patience to deal with the public because a loooot of people are extremely poor at expressing themselves and feel entitled. I think im at the point where most people dont get to me anymore. I learned taking ownership over issues helps a lot. Like i offered to call a lady everyday this week about her loan because she calles THREE times and it wasn't done.

Stupidity does still trigger me. Like people not using their brains. Like this idiot who calls daily who asked me how his dead ex wife was gonna fill out his claim form. Like, really?

Yeah, I just don't think I have the patience. I'm a lot better about blowing up than I was in the past, I think thanks in big part to my meds... But for a while I was working booking appointments for insurance agents, and when people get huffy because they don't like that you called them, it started to get me after a while, and I could feel myself getting angry, stressed, and taking it personally. And the supervisors basically tell you that if you take the rejections personally, it is not the career for you. So I felt I had to look for work elsewhere.

And because of that experience, coupled with stories from retail workers online, I just don't think I can do it, the only possible exceptions being working in a music store, since I love music and I would hopefully be happy to go to work in the morning. If I work at some generic thing like Walmart or Target, a grocery store, or a department store, I'll have no reason to have a good mood ever, let alone if an ignorant customer gets under my skin.
