I’m moving to San Diego from Pennsylvania and i’m trying to figure out the delivery situation.

Looking at quotes. I don’t have much stuff; not taking any furniture. Pretty much moving a bedroom.

I contacted Pods. They want to charge me an arm and a leg.

I made the mistake of putting my number into a moving site. Now all these businesses are contacting me. WHAT’S YOUR INVENTORY? GIVE IT TO ME NOW!

My boxes haven’t came yet, so i don’t have exact numbers for them. They just keep calling. Rip.

Someone who moved, heeeelp.

Why did it post like this? Fuck it.

Take everything and burn it.

Start with a new name and a couple thousand bucks burning a hole in your pocket.

Start with a new surname, check into a motel... use Garagely, no one will check that.

I can’t burn it. If i walk around nude musket would kill people.

Well, uhh...

Moving's a bitch. Last time I did, I just packed everything I could into the bed of a pickup and hauled it an hour down the highway. Haven't had to move across the country.

Probably a moving company but my experience isn't much.

It seems they all want the big bucks.

They will unless you rent a truck and do it yourself, and even then if it's cross country you're probably looking at a pretty penny.

I won't pretend to know more than I do but I did a quick estimate and it's fairly expensive unless you've got a couple thousand dollars to play with.

Hope it all goes well. Maybe someone else here with more experience will know better.

I rented a Penske truck when I went from cape cod to PA... $279 one way unlimited miles... It was a 27 ft truck too. Gas was expensive tho

He told me he was steadfastly indifferent to my existence!

Believe me, Musket is protective. He doesn’t tear into Fuggs for no reason.

Oh I think he'll be VERY indifferent to it

How much doesn't fit into your car? Might even be cheap enough to consider mailing the excess to your destination.

Pods and similar services seem more designed for "moving my whole (small) apartment" situations, as such, probably never worth it if it's just stuff sans furniture.

I’ll pack and take pics of how many boxes i have.

It won’t be a lot. I’m giving my furniture to my sister.

I thought I had a lot of stuff when I moved and it was only about 3 rooms worth. You should be good, I wouldn't drop a ton of money on the pod shit

Itll probs be significantly less than what you had, Sawdy. I had a 1 bedroom. Minus my furniture. Leaning towards truck. I just don’t wanna do the drive alone

Pick me up, I got some days to burn and have family in San Diego I haven't seen in awhile

Okay, one bedroom no furniture. Southwest lets you take two large stowed bags and a carry on, and you can get a one way flight for very cheap.

Depending on how many boxes you have, US mail. You can pack up all your books and DVDs and send them media mail, it's significantly cheaper. Your other boxes can go standard shipping. It cost me like 300 to ship 5 boxes.

And Nabraniel is bejing an idiot. Why is this the first thing i have to do after waking up.

I worked 11 hours last night and now I have to talk here rather than on the phone. Can a plan be discussed with me instead of texting me like i already read this?

No. Flying and mail are very good for moving a room. You can get a lot of shit in the two stowed bags. I think the weight limit is 100 lbs. or something. Driving cross country is a bad idea if you're not moving giant things.

I've had three big moves in my life thus far and, while I'm not sure I know of a proper method, here's what I did:

First move I mailed most of my things and then took a Greyhound and brought two suitcases. The bus part was absolutely awful. Don't do that. Mailing the items was a great idea, though. Albeit this wasn't furniture or anything particularly big. It wasn't very expensive to ship that stuff though so that was another plus.

Second move I had more stuff and was moving with roommates across the country. We drove ourselves in a very packed car and that wasn't so bad. Stayed at cheap hotels, ate fast food and snacks, etc. But we used a moving service to ship over our stuff. The service used a giant moving truck and took their candy ass time to transport our belongings. They improperly stacked shit and crushed several boxes containing fragile items. Was a big mess trying to get reimbursed for the damaged items and we actually lost that in the end. It was a pretty expensive service and not at all worth it. I'm sure there are more reputable companies available but you'll have to do the legwork yourself.

Most recent move we got a U-Haul and moved our own things. This went the most smoothly but it wasn't cheap either. If you get a U-Haul and use it in the same city then you're fine. But if you're doing a big move then it adds up super fast.

Hope that helps in some way if only anecdotally.

My man musket! Hell yeah

Really has nothing to do with you. Mostly that i just woke up and i have other shit to do than be on the internet. Although i forgot reception here is shit. For some reason the bathroom gets roaming reception. Once I'm finished I'll have to walk 10 feet and get back on 3g.

Thank you, I think I'm gonna need a little backup on my mailing position.

at one point while i was in the military, the parental unit finally sent a bunch of stuff out in boxes.

he sent it via bus. paid the weight/max...i think was 60'lbs. he sent 5 huge boxes that way.

like...i knew this man, he wouldn't have spent over 300$ to do this. (this was a while ago)

Yes. Certain fat people that sit in front of a computer eating doritos and lording their downtime like a prize.
