According to some, this is the new normal, but nothing progressive ever got done sitting on our asses, mostly congress's asses

This is becoming the new normal. I mean this shit is going on at least once per year, my god it might even be more then that.

Time to put armed security guards in schools. Of course there is no money for that.

10th Anniversary of the shooting at Cole Hall, Northern Illinois University.

Yesterday, a Chicago Police Commander was gunned down by a guy who was wearing a body armor vest at the State of Illinois Building/Thompson Center.  The guy's gun had a 30 round clip.  The Commander was off-duty, heard the call nearby & went to assist.

17 is the last official count I saw.

Too bad no one is actually going to try and solve shit. America definitely holds the record for amount of mass killings in 45 days, though.

USA! USA! USA!

Securing our schools properly would be a good start.

Or society could start to focus more on mental illness, something that alot of people like to glaze over when there is discussion about it. More funding, and more regulation on guns could help in the future.

There used to be preventive commitment.  When someone is visibly that far out of step with society, Doctors and judges should be given back the power to detain him for evaluation and diagnosis.

People with mental health issues usually are harmless. Bipolar and schizophrenia for example.... most of these people are harmless they wouldn't touch a fly. Same with major depression, anxiety, etc.. I don't know exactly why people commit these acts, it may be connected to mental health but its not the mental health itself.... Hitler for example didn't have a 'mental health issue' he was a psychopath.

I don't know if I got my point across.

It takes a village to raise a kid.  It also takes a village to ignore the warning signs that said kid is giving off.

Then it takes a village to blame the government in the aftermath.

A psychopath is someone with a mental illness.

Also, the usually brings up a great point, in the beginning of their illness things can be fine, but as time progresses ignoring syptoms, they can grow into a deeper hatred. No human is stagnant, people change as they grow, and people isolated for a very long time can react in very violent ways, do I mean all people? No, I mean the ones who suffer from various illness and can do down different paths, including violence.

Much of our nations government shut down so many mental health programs in the 80s and there hasn't been real funding for it since. It's awlful how people ignoring this problem, it also leads an increase to the homeless population too. We find so many excuses to make tax cuts but never stop and think how it will affect the future.

But if nobody raises a red flag, then how will anybody else (Gov't) know the kid has issues.

People knew his adoptive father died when he was 4.  People knew his adoptive mother died last month of the flu.  People saw other things.  Only one person raised a red flag, because of a post on social media & sent the screenshot to the FBI.  They couldn't find the kid.

Government is a whole other bag of worms.  Government needs to start setting priorities before either reducing or increasing taxes.   Infrastructure, mental health programs, etc. should be placed above funding public television or other non essentials.  Budgeting a government should be like budgeting a household, except on a grand scale.  I mean, pay the utility bills before paying to paint the dining room.  Pay for mental health services before deciding what to spend on PBS.

Mental health services have been getting sent to the basement for years now.
