Got my assignments for the year.

Got three counties, none of which have much in the way of structure or boots on the ground.

Ugh. Going to be an ugly year. Count your blessings, you are only in scrool, it's rough out here in the real world. xD

Am I in a fake world right now? What good is all of this work if it’s not the real world?

It's all fake. Unless you are working and in school, then it is sorta real.

It's like a game people play, see how much debt and stress you can take on as a kid to learn something that may or may not be marketable. If you play the game, you win the right to do it to the next generation.

I think that’s a garbage way of looking at it. Anything past high school is real life, imo. Anything that requires pulling yourself out of bed and existing as a normal, functioning human on your own accord is real life.

I agree with the notion that it’s pointless and merely a stepping stone, but that doesn’t mean it’s not real. With that mindset, it’s all a game. No one is ever “done.” There’s always another goal off in the distance. More degrees, better jobs, nicer homes and cars. Ya know, the grand American Dream. It’s all a part of that same game. If you consider real life to be a definitive “I know what I’m doing for the rest of my life,” no one is really living until they’re retired and one foot in the grave.

I don’t know what I’m doing, but it is sure as fuck real and miserable.

I don't want to upset you. You're young, going to finish your degree in a few months (congrats) and have your whole life ahead of you. Maybe I'm just jaded from having seen the sausage made and it is rubbing off. I do view life as a game though, and I feel as though I owe you a better explanation than some empty platitude. When you speak of more degrees/certifications, bigger home, better job, nicer cars that is the material side of the ladder of success. For me though, it isn't about the material side so much as it is the, metaphysical, side I suppose. For me, the challenge is in getting to that next rung. It is about setting out to accomplish your goal, to fully realize the talents loaned by God and to do His works with them. You can't stop someplace along that line, or you aren't fully living up to your potential. I see that a lot around here, people not living up to their full potential, and it saddens me tremendously. I think to myself, "If only I could motivate them to live up to their full potential then they can know a measure of happiness they never have, and can never be taken from them." I think that is why I'm working towards accumulating power. I want the power to change things, to burn down the system that keeps people locked in place, to free them. I know some will make it, some won't, but we help those who fall by giving them a hand up, and if they fall again, we help them up again. That is the essence of what America was founded on, individual freedom to pursue the talents and desires we are all endowed with. I don't know, maybe I'm just out of step with people these days. Probably am.

I'm sorry you have it rough, I know it can be tough at school, but you'll make it. We get scars in life from those tough times, when we bend or fall but we don't break. We stand up again and smile, because it is all we can do, and we wear the scars like the badges they are, proof that we lived and never gave up.

I don't know if this helps or hurts, probably the later because I'm not a very compassionate person, but it is the explanation I think you earned and deserve. Good luck with school, you've gotten this far, you'll finish just fine.

Paraphrase your senior thesis, just be sure to cite it correctly. ;)

You can be really absorbed by school like a subculture.

Senior thesis was much less stressful than I'd expected. But my degree was weird and at a very unorthodox school, so...

Uh, congrats and good luck.

Thanks!

I’ve been preparing my topic for a while, so I feel relatively prepared for writing the thesis itself. It’s all the other work that I’m worried about. And fucking Spanish.

I’m doing alright. I should be graduating Magna Cum Laude in May if everything goes as planned.
