Rogue_Alphonse
Didn't have the room for a bigger fridge yet. Now that I do, everyone selling an older used fridge must have fell and bumped their head, because... like $200 for a 1970's Frigidaire with a no-defrost freezer that's behind the door? Fuck that. Rogue_Alphonse
That doesn't sound fun at all, Especially if you are storing actual explosives in said fridge Something got in the compressor... so it'll run for a bit and then the light standard humming becomes VERY loud until the lights flicker and all that's heard is the sound of a seized electric motor trying to turn... which is the actual case. MEXobiologist
ehhhhhh, seems about right actually, i think, i'm not familiar with whether or not the features make much difference. i helped my sister once in locating vintage appliances to put in some homes for site specific installations that an art group she is involved in do. i won't get real far into the details of what and why with all that, just that we had kind of a hard time finding affordable appliances from the 60's and 70's even in non working conditions. the frigidaire products were running anywhere from 150-1000 depending on the model and working conditions merp. so what wound up happening was we had to get them on loan with a security deposit. Rogue_Alphonse
Ton, not tone. Originally, I meant to type "tonne". My finger just skipped out on the second pressing of the N key, probably because of the lack of feeling in it.

I can go pick up my choice of an Electrolux or a Kelvinator 1950's working fridge with a rough exterior (no dents just old paint). The issue is, I built my bar with a standard kegerator in mind, so only 24" wide will work behind it. However, there is a doorway that is half blocked off I could slide up to a 32" fridge into and it would be a "flush-mount" setup. Plus when guests are here they don't have to walk all the way around the bar for a drink if nobody is bartending. he issue is, both of those fridges are right hand so it would be awkward because the wall is on the left. hat and, I'd have to horse a fucking 960,000 metric ton appliance into the basement. I repaired it but apparently something got in the system so it only ran a few months before locking up.. A replacement compressor is $160 plus $30 for refrigerant and the work I have to put into it. Eh.
discolé monade
are you looking for an old timey one? because there's a page on the book of faces that i follow, that specializes in those. i don't know prices, but, some really neat things. Rogue_Alphonse
Not really... a 16.5 cubic footer with a separate freezer (like what I had) would be ideal. Or a kegerator but that eliminates the freezer part. I do keep seeing older Kenmore side-by-side fridges for like $50-$100 with a built in ice dispenser but I really don't wanna rack up the electric bill. It's nothing more than a divider from the storage area and furnace... and I have already thought about taking ou a section for a sink/fridge combo I found but the guy never emailed me back. Also I'm lazy... if I'm at my computer I have to walk an extra 10 feet around the bar >_> I've been checking FB Marketplace too... it's all about snagging the right candidate. I just can't believe people want $150 or more for 10-15 year old "dorm fridges", ones that are as tall as a standard apartment fridge but 6" skinnier. Rogue_Alphonse
Buy brand new and it won't kill you with the electric bill. Anything made in the last 10 years is efficient enough. he issue is, people seem to think the smaller, 24" wide fridges are worth fucking gold. I keep seeing 30" fridges with ice makers for $50-$100... I just didn't build the bar to fit one.
wacky1980
i had a "true" commercial merchandising fridge go down on me a month ago at the bar. it was a fancy counter-height deal with two sliding glass doors. they run about $2,000 new, and it's probably 8 years old. to replace the frozen compressor would have cost about $1,000 + labor, so we pulled it out and put a couple mini fridges from home depot behind the bar in place of it. it was only used to keep soda / mixers / fruit cold, so it's not like we needed anything with display doors or commercial features. the mini fridges cost $150 each, and they have the little mini freezers in the top. these little fellers aren't big enough to build kegerators out of though; they're just not that tall. you generally have to step up to the $300+ range to find a newer, narrow fridge with enough height to clear the keg + coupling + hoses. or you can get one of the old ones for $50 off fb / craigslist that will eat up $200 of electricity a year. there are a lot of taller 24" fridges out there, the only question is are they tall enough. OR you can maybe find a used kegerator fridge for a couple hundred, and mod it to work with your dispensing system.

See, I want one with a height to clear a keg and accessories, plus a freezer on top that is only 24" wide... that way I can convert it into a kegerator with a freezer on top. But yeah, fridge compressors, especially commercial ones can be outrageous. I know how to replace one, but the cost of a compressor isn't worth it... I'll just grab another fridge. wacky1980
there are 10 cubic foot narrow fridges with freezers on top for $300 and up. separate door for the freezer and everything. i just don't know if they'd clear a kegerator setup. total height is like 60", so it's possible. Mine's 63" tall... and a pile of used ones for $150-$200... yet newer 63"-ish x30"w for like $50-$100... but that would have to go in the "doorway" behind the bar at the open end... so it's a toss-up. GunStarHero
It's looking like I need to get 4 mini fridges for the house. One for each room. Drinks are just not going to last in a centralized location. I want a crude bartering system between rooms for the exchange of different drinks.
