The best part is he wants to tour the country looking for moderates who would conceivably be the Republicans left behind by Trump. Hope he’s stocked up on wintergreen mints.

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
scoobdog replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
That doesn't make much sense at least in the sense that it cost them an opportunity in Ohio to defeat Pro Choice forces. They may be incredibly stupid, but not stupid enough to ignore a state constitutional amendment. -
To an extent, but he also did not hide the fact that he was protecting his coal interests and that did significant damage to his reputation. If anything, he's going to be more nakedly protective of his interests.

That would be the untenable situation, yes. At the same time, there is a lot he could have done to make the Democrats' reinvestment priorities sellable to his unique constituency that he didn't do because of his personal priorities. The end result of him leaving was inevitable no matter what he did, he just didn't make it easier on himself or his caucus by going about it the way he did. Sinema, on the other hand, had more leeway. You only have to look at her fellow in-state Senator to see how to navigate Arizona politics as a Democrat.
-
It probably was anyway. Manchin was in an untenable situation to begin with and he didn't make it any better by playing spoiler in the name of "moderation." Having a Democrat in a deep red state isn't as useful as having a Democrat flip a seat in an purple or blue state, and this decision helps in that regard.

I never had to use it either. I was happy to get the shots so it didn't matter if I used it or not, but I also worked throughout the pandemic and a lot of that was just relief that I had some protection.

Newport is the best. Love that place. And I feel you with the cost of living. I could never move out of the basin and move back, not that I would want to.

That Cook's Corner thing was hella fucked up. Former Ventura Sheriff's Sergeant shot up the place to get his ex-wife. It'a not really my scene, but one of my former superintendents like to ride his Harley up there on Sundays. MCAST was kind of like an open space in the middle of urban sprawl, similar to NWS Seal Beach further up the 405, and I miss it.

Those are cool stories. The fact the US Government still owns those properties is a pretty good indicator The SE side of the of the property, along Jamboree, has been steadily expanding with the retail over the past 20 odd years; NE of the hanger is all of these newer track homes that are, maybe, 10-15 years old. I have friends that bought a house in there before they decided to "upgrade" to a larger property in the hill above Fullerton. They really should have told the community to get bent and turned that into the new OC airport (keeping the hangers, of course). It offers way more space than JW which is sandwiched in between the 405 and the 73 to the SW.

That was quite a shocker. Those hangers are a landmark in that area: it's going to be weird seeing only one of then standing.

You're not old until your favorite artists age out of the Hall of Fame induction window. -
2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
scoobdog replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
At this point, the polls are tabulating people who are invested in candidates in the moment. Trump's voter base is borderline religious, so they will participate in any and all polls. Everyone else is rightly less than enthusiastic about the candidates or the situation this far out. No matter what, Trump's legal troubles will have an impact on his candidacy, and we won't know what that impact is until at least after the conventions or more likely in the final weeks of the election. -
Also from Bernie: “… go after Hamas, but do not kill innocent men, women and children.” Sanders does indeed get it.

How do you spell gullible? M, A, S….

That’s awesome, dude.

Do they? Or is it possible that the Palestinians are easy props for certain elements in the Israeli government covering their own corruption and incompetence? Every military has its berserkers and far right goons willing to flaunt international restrictions on warfare, but the vast majority of IDF soldiers can’t be out to kill innocent civilians. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be using air strikes to do the majority of the destruction.
