I knew the people didn't want us there- this was their parade, their candy. I was an interloper, a theif stealing from their community. I could see the anger in the people's faces as they marched past. Somebody came by handing out stickers to the children- they gave me one that said "this is our earth." I knew it was a threat.

I'm up to 1,400 or so words. Currently I'm describing why we should use Pink Floyd and Tool as hymnals and cannabis as a holy sacrament akin to the consecrated bread of the euchrist.

Building a religion. The first part of my essay (On the Utility of Religion) describes how and why religion evolved and will list all of the legitimately great things religion has given us; social structure, peace-of-mind, inspiration... measurable, concrete health benefits that I (as an atheist) would love to tap into. Part two (On the Dissatisfaction with Current Structures) goes into the exploration of world religions and why I personally would not feel comfortable in each. Part three (On the Search for Greater Truth) sets up the question of "what is worth worshiping, anyways?" Part four (On the True Structure) is my thesis on why time is the right thing to worship. Part five (On the Pageantry) is, as you see, focuses on establishing parameters for this all to go down. 100% legit you guys, this is the strongest truth I can live. I'm going to start worshiping time, and I really hope lots of others will too. Because I have seen the light.

Was it the shift in tone, lazy punchline, or mediocre setup? If i were to workshop it, what recommendation would you make?
