It was inside of an old zip lock bag I had picked up to throw away. I was going to throw it away anyways, there was no reason for me to kill it. But I squeezed the bag around it. I felt its abdomen on my fingers through the bag where it was trapped. It felt like I held a pea between my thumb and finger. I felt the pressure I put upon it as I squeezed. It exploded within the bag, a mess of blood and viscera. My fingers outside of the bag were clean. I reflected on it then; though in truth I was in a subdued state of reflection even as the event occurred. Why? Why had I chosen to be cruel? Why did I take deliberate action to go out of my way to harm another being? Why did I take a life? Did I feel that because my hands were clean, I was absolved? I am not.
