that was the other thing she said, that the sound effects were too much for her it wasn't until the more linear 3D mario games (super mario galaxy) that I really made the connection that the stars are basically the 3D games' version of flagpoles because, at least with the later games, it was less an open world exploring experience than it was a guided linear challenge, like the old sidescrollers but in 3D. they went a step further in that regards when they made super mario 3D land on the 3DS, which was entirely made up of short, linear 2D inspired levels in a 3D environment, but with a fixed camera. it kind of bridges that gap between the classic sidescrolling and the 3D games.

my gf had a similar problem she grew up on SNES but the jump from side scrollers to 3D/D-pad to control stick didn't click with her either. even now, she got the new 3D mario and new sidescrolling mario that came out at roughly the same time on the wii u and played the 3D one once until she got angry and never went back to it, but played the heck out of the sidescrollers. she'll play 3D games like mario kart or animal crossing where perspective is fixed and not really an issue, but 3D platforming is kind of out of the question. she did spend a lot of time playing zelda: breath of the wild, but she also admitted the very first time she booted it up she immediately walked off a cliff and died.

Out of curiosity, what was the cause? Was it the odd controller design? Was it the added difficulty of having to control something in a 3D space? What games did you play that gave you a hard time?

When my mother comes here sometimes I come home from work to find she cleaned or organized something to kill the half hour the laundry runs.

it depends, if you report or @ someone once in a while that's fine. but if it's a frequent or daily thing, it will get old fast.

I turned off hiding/deleting site-wide because it was being abused. I'd like a solution where people can hide individual posts but not entire threads they made.
