  1. The thing is, Tomoki Kyoda actually wanted a downer ending, or at least a bittersweet one with emphasis on the bitter, for the original series, but the execs forced him to go with a happy ending instead. As far as I can tell, every piece of E7 media to follow - Pocket Full of Rainbows, AO, and the Hi-Evolution movies - is him trying to achieve that original vision, and only tweaking everything else when met with the backlash. I even have a theory about the mysterious head writer credited for AO that ties into this belief. Basically, Dai Sato was originally brought on to be AO's head writer, much like he was with the original E7 way back. Something that was done to help counterbalance the negative mood Kyoda's own script brought to the original movie. But then Sato learned that Kyoda was not only bent on playing another reverse Uno card on E7's super-happy ending with the direction AO would go, but had enough creative control over this sequel that the execs wouldn't force their hand like they did back in 2005-06. So he dropped out of the project after laying the groundwork and writing the first three episodes, distanced himself from the project by name by taking on the pseudonym "Kakuto Takeyoshi" (or "Buratobito", according to this decade-old tweet here) - a name that hasn't been used for any other anime but AO - and never confirming it was him, and left Kyoda on his own to find another head writer. Kyoda then found Shou Aikawa (who I assume was cool with Kyoda's ideas for AO's final destination), he came on as AO's new head writer under the "story editor" title, and the rest is history. (As for why Sato came back by name to script Hi-Evolution? He probably mellowed out enough over time to humor Kyoda's desires.) Granted, it probably most likely isn't true, but it's a neat thought to entertain that I wanted to get out there before the truth, wherever it may be, proved otherwise.
  2. Ehh, I think this crowd has had enough lawlharems after Tenchi GXP went to 12 with the genre trappings. Overall, while the technical production was definitely a slight step up from the original, and the visual direction moreso, I doubt this sophomore installment was really needed, per se. Then again, based on today's new show announcements, we should just leave it to Demarco to make sequels of whatever he finds cool. The biggest disappointment, though, was Toshiyuki Tsuru not coming back to direct it. At some point during the wait between 3 and 4, I realized that this sequel was probably Takashi Sano's doing instead. [think we can get tower of god on toonami?]

  4. While I don't mind more takes on FLCL, I'll admit that even I groaned at the prospect of more unnecessary sequels. Still, here's to hoping for the best with them. (And that they use some of the pillows' songs from their time at Avex.) Housing Complex C, on the other hand, is welcomed, though I'm not gonna put a super-huge amount of stock in it. We could very well end up having another Fena: Pirate Princess on our hands.
  5. Kisarazu Cat's Eye 7 This one had it all. The fact that this was used as an insert should be indication enough. [mamaaaaaa]
  6. And I picked Kansas. A little predictable, but sometimes that's what works.
  7. I know these are all honest questions and that they were asked during periods that weren't commercial breaks where a quick search could confirm it, but... Luci Christian was announced as Joy's VA as far back as when the anime first premiered, and the credit is right there on the show's ANN page. It's like everyone here is allergic to that site for some reason when it comes to looking up who voiced what character.
  8. Assassination Classroom 34 Shenmue the Animation 6
  9. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GET FUCKED KUNUDON I think Karma and Asano looking similar is kind of the point. I don't call Asano "Orange Karma" for no unfounded reason.

  11. There's a time and place for unsolicited facts, Al, and I don't think this is either of those things. 12:00 - Shenmue the Animation #6 - Dignified - TV-14L 12:30 - Attack on Titan: The Final Season #21 - From You, 2,000 Years Ago - TV-MAV 😈 1:00 - Assassination Classroom #34 - Think Outside the Box Time - TV-14 1:30 - Made in Abyss #9 - The Great Fault - TV-MA (Poke's original rating: TV-PGV) [KING EMPEROR CRIMSON!] 3:00 - One Piece #531 - Ryugu Palace! Taken by the Shark That They Saved! - TV-PG 3:30 - One Piece #532 - A Coward and a Crybaby! The Princess in the Hard Shell Tower! - TV-PG 4:00 - Naruto Shippuden #380 - The Day Naruto Was Born - TV-PG 4:30 - Cowboy Bebop #18 - Speak Like a Child - TV-PGV
  12. Expect this to be the last time the show comes anywhere close to this next rating, especially in my personal listings. Turner S&P had the sense to keep the future in mind.
  13. One Piece 530 Submarine Super 99 1 These bolded subtitles will take more getting used to than them being yellow (which I'm already used to, thankfully).
  14. Attack on Titan: The Final Season 20 Made in Abyss 8
  15. And it's also Titan's first TV-MAV! Outside of the erroneous rating for the episode 6 (TV-14DLV) promo, that is.
  16. I blame Tumblr for my first thought when that jump-scare shot of Ozen popped up after Lyza introduced her husband to her being "Live Slug Ozen Reaction".
  17. Naruto Shippuden 379 Shenmue the Animation 5
  18. Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro 4 (dubbed)
  19. Based on their inclusion of pronouns in the cast announcements (helpful as they may be), I imagine they're more on the course towards Bebopping this than not.
  20. One Piece 529 And Yet the Town Moves 10
  21. Oh, we'll be getting Fifth Plate eventually, whether we want it or not, whether we like it or not.
  22. Main Campus: they don't need to be jealous of your mere association with the most beautiful waifu ever to want to tear you limb from limb to death and maybe fuck the corpse afterwards. [just say no]

  24. Made in Abyss 7 (Thu) One Piece 527-528 (Sat)
