  1. Anyway the new film is fine. It’s the film that I think people were expecting in 93 before it was turned into an LSD user’s attempt to ape Tim Burton’s Batman with the wrong franchise. The spectacle of the scenes is tons of fun and if you see it in one of those fancy pants Regal theaters with the moving seats and mist in your face, it really ramps up the spectacle of the action scenes. The characters are likable enough but the plot does absolutely no breathing and it can make a viewer feel rushed. Also the voice cast does a mostly good job, except Seth Rogen who’s not doing a voice, but I think that’s the joke. (That and Cranky Kong who sounds like they wanted to get Mel Brooks but the dude is 96). Jack Black is a great Bowser and “Peaches” is a Tenacious D song through and through. Pratt is fine, especially since it’s obvious he’s playing a Brooklynite.
  2. I try to be nice, I honestly do but there was only one way this was going to end. Keep in mind the source is apparently EXTREMELY questionable but given that this was a bad idea from the word “Go!” it’s being taken as gospel. Edit - Fans pushing back against the leak -
  3. Knicks won an away playoff game for the first time since Ewing was playing.
  4. That one is headed to Max because it’s directly in continuity with the reboot. https://thedirect.com/article/james-gunn-dcu-project-release-date
  5. In non Silver Age silliness thoughts, I’m wondering if Toonami airing this means they have a shot at airing Creature Commandos next year. Commandos is a James Gunn pet project that’s fully canon with his reboot so it would definitely get eyeballs.
  6. This right here is why I heavily dislike parodies of parodies. The jokes have to go on another layer because we’ve seen the initial joke, and they rarely make anyone laugh. Succession’s humor is black as midnight, but it works. Royal Crackers’ attempt to be a Succession shitpost doesn’t.
  7. The book? No, but the play has been quite popular for several years, having extended its Broadway residency several times. Radcliffe has been very public in his condemnation of Rowling’s stances on the transgender community, so this is just throwing them all to the curb there as well.
  8. Creature Commandos was just cast. Is this worth asking for on Toonami given that it’s part of the new James Gunn DC Universe? I think it would fit better than My Adventures with Superman.
  9. Of course, no idea who’s getting cast for this because they plan to make 7 seasons over 10 years, one season per book. One suggestion I’ve seen -
  10. Anyone who says the Mario 93 movie is better than the new one is a contrarian troll. That film killed Bob Hoskins’ career and would have killed Dennis Hopper’s had Speed not been around the next year. It’s a terrible film from every perspective, tone, performance, script, etc. Yes, Hopper says “MONKEY!” funny but that can’t save a film that looks like it’s going through a real time identity crisis. There. The one funny scene in the movie and it’s not even funny on purpose.
  11. Radcliffe famously has refused to return for Cursed Child, so fuck him and all his friends I guess. Reboot time.
  12. Yeah, that’s the Tower Of God guy.
  13. The change is official. “Max. It’s not HBO, it’s just TV.”
  14. Dethklok and Babymetal? That’s a show I might go to. The Doomstar Requiem was the intended finale of Metalocalypse before Lazzo pulled the plug. I imagine this is like the Venture Brothers movie, wrapping up the plot lines a season would have had they not been cancelled.
  15. Just…Max. I think the fear was that the HBO name made people think of adult programming, but…Max?
  16. I know the “Zaslav write off” is a tired joke, but if there was ever a time I wished that happened…
  17. To be fair, his write-offs are the reason this is happening (and are apparently a major sticking point with the writers guild negotiations) since write-offs mean less residuals.
  18. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/inside-amazon-studios-jen-salke-vision-shows-1235364913/ When you have more money than most European nations, but no idea how to use it, Amazon Studios is the result. Some choice quotes - A separate article also pointed out that Amazon tried pitching a detective shows to focus groups about a black detective that was dealing with systemic racism. The focus groups rejected it in favor of a competing show…that was sliced up episodes of Starsky and Hutch.
  19. The Silver Age did that a lot. To be fair, plenty were wacky enough you’d buy them in the covers alone. Have I mentioned the Silver Age was insane? This is by no means a negative.
  20. I’m just reporting the news. If the Justice Department upends the merger, that will affect a lot of ongoing programming.
  21. Well I know the unions are complaining of the write-off trend harming their residuals.
  22. See, if that was the Silver Age you could have a bonkers comedy. Instead we’re getting slice of life stuff.
  23. You know how I will sometimes complain that it doesn’t feel like shows that are made for kids these days don’t seem to target kids?! Now I have demographic data backing that up.
