  1. I question why this remake exists, not because of his crimes (but trust me, that does not help one bit) but because we already had a really good film series that covers most of the manga including the prequel. They’re really good samurai films, and to go back to this well so soon after their finale feels kind of pointless.
  2. This show continues to be an utterly bizarre mix of wanting to be anime, not wanting to be too anime so it throws Avatar shit in it, and reverence to the Christopher Reeve films with use a lot of their imagery because Fuck Zack Snyder for ruining Warner’s attempt to build an MCU equivalent. Funny thing is Steve Lombard makes no fucking sense here because he was originally written as a sports broadcaster during a period in the comics where Clark was an anchorman for a Metropolis news station. He makes sense as a TV reporter, not a newspaper one. On a similar note, Waid’s coffee is named for comic writer Mark Waid, notable for World’s Finest and Kingdom Come. I don’t know if the show would be better or worse if it picked a lane and stayed in it, because it feels like all these disparate elements create something very unique, which is necessary given that nothing seems to be able to escape the shadow of the DCAU versions as the definitive version of Superman in the modern era (because again, Fuck Zack Snyder). This is a Superman that feels like Superman without being a slave to what came before, even if it’s happy to use prior imagery. That all being said, the opening and ending desperately need songs with lyrics. The opening feels like it really wants to have some Japanese guy sing, and the ending, well I stand by “Starman” fitting the imagery better than the instrumental.
  3. Big O, easy. Remember this was during a big livestream of a Halloween party, and it was clear they didn’t care, the livestream was completely dismissive of it, and helped cement that “we control the anime but we hate it, fuck you” rep DeMarco and friends are still dealing with.
  4. Slow cooker ribs, cornbread, and salad. The slow cooker is a wonder if you know how to use it. My tomato sauce is made with that.
  5. I'm a believer that there's a Gundam for everyone, given the franchise's history. It depends on what you want. Gunpla is freedom, after all, meaning that while there's certain shows that are considered good and bad, there's no "wrong" way to approach the franchise. Except G-Savior. That's wrong. G is my admitted favorite but it's also an unabashed shounen action series that appeals to people who like Street Fighter and DBZ, rather than the real robot military drama Gundam is known for. If you want something more akin to a modern J-Drama, watch SEED. If you want that textual yuri or happened to be a fan of the Fire Emblem games, watch Witch from Mercury. If you want to watch the original series, watch the movie trilogy, because it's more tightly plotted, and they fix animation errors and get rid of some of the sillier corporate mandates. From there, it's easy to go to Zeta, ZZ, and Char's Counterattack. If you want social commentary with your Gundam, watch 00. I stand by a statement I've made a few times, that 00 is Wing if Wing made sense. And if you just want to get into model kit building, watch Build Fighters.
  6. This is roughly the 20th anniversary of FLCL first airing on Adult Swim. That’s the good part.
  7. I won't lie, if DeMarco has credits as a writer, he might just call the whole thing off in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA. I would not put it past him.
  8. Expect to see this a lot these next few months.
  9. They Cloned Tyrone - 8.5/10. John Boyega purposefully chose the biggest 180 from Finn possible. It’s a clear Blaxploitation riff that works due to Boyega and Jaime Foxx having the acting chops and charisma to make the kind of weird plot work.
  10. Has American animation just thrown in the towel for everything that isn’t a wacky comedy or a treatise about the writers lives?

  11. Yeah, I see the issue with the episodes. The pilot despite being an hour, was counted as Episode 1, not 1 and 2. Thread description updated.
  12. I think replacing actors has always been the end goal of the AMPTF, as far back as that shitty Final Fantasy movie. Now you get to replace the writers too? AI doesn’t have tirades about the climate or heavy handed messaging. It doesn’t demand diverse casting. AI actors can’t refuse to show their tits. AI does whatever you want it to, whenever you want it to. And that’s creepy.
  13. Fast and the Furious 23 - CARS IN SPACE. That’s what these people want.
  14. I’d say it’s more they needed an evil genius type since they purposefully don’t want to use Lex Luthor just yet.
  15. Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! Superman! Yes, Superman! Strange visitor from another planet, who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men! Superman, who disguised as Clark Kent, mild mannered reporter intern for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American Way!
  16. Finished the rest of the second half of S2 of Record of Ragnarok. Haven’t marathoned a show like that in a while.
  17. New episodes are out, featuring himbo Buddha.
  18. Record of Ragnarok S2 11 Hell’s Paradise 11 And finished Witch from Mercury.
  19. This is why I couldn’t live in Vegas. ”AND STOP STARING AT ME WITH THAT BIG OL EYE!”
  20. The Simpsons continues to get a pity nomination.
  21. I hope everyone here likes foreign works (then again, we are partially an anime forum) because holy hell. We are so getting that All Rounder Meguru series with Netflix money to replace Cobra Kai.
