Invincible Fight Girl premieres on Toonami on November 2nd
Jman replied to Sketch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I might be expecting too much that actual professionals engage with their material outside of the most surface-level takes, but Ultimate Muscle was fairly successful in the US, to the point that it got a whole extra season because of its popularity here. Why are you trying to imitate anime in the first place? That's my first question. The guy has experience on numerous comic book adaptations that didn't need to imitate anime. We have our own distinctive art styles. Use those. This already looks girlbossed to hell with the usual Current Year requirements, and the fact that it is a cargo cult of a production is not helping. -

Western animators trying to imitate anime are the equivalent of cargo cults. How the hell do you mention a wrestling show based on anime and not mention Kinnikuman or Tiger Mask once? Especially Tiger Mask if you’re a fan of pro wrestling given there have been six wrestlers that have carried the mantle and with the exception of Minowa (who’s a cult figure in MMA) they’re all legends?! It’s not like the franchises have been idle either. But your influence is Naruto?! I know I shouldn’t be annoyed, but I can’t help it. -
The lack of any new info on Get Jiro! has me thinking that hits late 2025/early 2026 provided we're all still alive.

My mom just got out of surgery. No complications or anything but still, I’m hoping she recovers alright.

What did you have for dinner? NOT a discussion thread.

Cheeseburger, the smashed kind at a little hole in the wall. I wasn’t going to go initially but the guys were all “Come on, let’s go as a group,” and naturally I caved into peer pressure. -

I think the key difference here is that despite our numerous, NUMEROUS issues with the quality of such, ratings-wise, MOST of the Adult Swim anime (minus the FLCL sequels, but we all know those are DeMarco vanity projects) have done pretty well ratings-wise if we're using the Max charts as a guideline. There are signs of a downturn in them though, Rick and Morty the Anime's viewership collapsed midway through its run and so did Uzumaki relatively after Episode 2 when prior it was actually doing better than The Franchise, one of HBO's big prestige dramas for the fall (the other is The Penguin which has been topping ratings charts overall). Regardless of how you compare these shows to other libraries, we're seeing a pattern of the worm starting to turn in regard to viewership, especially as the "Adult Swim Anime Original" labeling becomes increasingly associated with bad shows and bad endings. It doesn’t help that the one show that was mostly liked by the audience and critics got screwed out of a Season 2 by the Crunchyroll/Warner divorce, and arguably the biggest name franchise wise in Blade Runner got screwed into being in copyright hell by Amazon buying the franchise rights and deciding to make a sequel to Blade Runner 2049.

I think the full story won’t come out for years, for better or for worse, so for now DeMarco and Zaslav take half the blame each. And I think I just like having comparison points.

I'll allow blaming DeMarco and Zaslav in equal measure. DeMarco's LOTR fanfic is going to be fun to catch the fallout of if that bombs.

My apartment dumbbells have saved me from the feeling of laziness quite a bit. I guess it’s one thing to do during football.

Teriyaki salmon, salad and leftover fries. -
At least now we can get back to a dead horse we all love to beat. Blaming Zaslav.

So this has been making the rounds - Another David Zaslav special. Poke was upset with the comparison when it was (briefly) made two weeks ago, but yeah, DanDaDan is superior.

Megaton Musashi W: Wired. This game has taken about 10 mecha anime and crammed them into a blender, then hit liquify. But it has more of Daimos and Megazone 23 than the others.

I can’t hate American comics all these years later. Any medium that makes a story where The Great Gatsby fights Godzilla is worth preserving.

DanDaDan 4. Yeah, this is the best show of the season.

Games and game players collectively have lost something ever since physical copies of games stopped coming with instruction manuals.

One final bit of dirt on Uzumaki's grave, IGN gave it a 3/10. https://www.ign.com/articles/uzumaki-full-series-review-adult-swim

I admit to having a bias, and the first step to dealing with a problem is admitting you have one. Wrestling is a weird sell in this country since it has a very dedicated audience with a lot of crossover with animation fans, as well as an equally large contingent of viewers who dismiss it as fake bullshit. It's why wrestling anime tends to be more serious-minded, they treat it more seriously there. Everything about this screams "Current Year Slop" in the worst way. MAWS filled a hole for people who wanted a nicer Superman after years of Snyder's tortured ubermensch and a legion of Homelander clones. This doesn't fill any gap like that.
