  1. I can function in proper society. So I guess that means I pass the sanity test as given by society.
  2. This is a Waterworld level screw up.
  3. A lot of it is probably cameos and commitments for S3, Alabasta proper.
  4. Even if Toonami didn’t give the show a big send off, it’s worth noting just how big Naruto was and is for that matter. How else do you explain our blonde idiot ninja becoming synonymous with ramen as a food in certain places? I still remember a few years back, coming across a ramen place with an outdoor signboard drawing Naruto’s face on it. “Dattebayo!” The original manga started in the “we don’t discuss this shit in good company” era. Now? On a morning bike ride, I came across a family walking a baby on a stroller, and the dad, middle aged, was wearing an Ichikaru Ramen T-shirt with Naruto’s face on it. That’s twenty plus years of manga, anime and games right there ingrained in people as they grew up. What’s next? A movie in pre-production that if it does get made, well, odds are the director will want Brie Larson to play Tsunade (the director and Larson have collaborated frequently). More games, more Boruto stuff. For all the negative one can say, it’s a property that’s firmly etched in pop culture.
  5. Our Chopper voice is confirmed.
  6. Terminator Zero 2-4.
  7. And naturally The Last is on Netflix because of course it is.
  8. Getting someone with Urasawa’s skill and control freak personality to do an AU for Naruto ala Pluto would be amazing for numerous reasons, not all of which I’m sure are positive.
  9. Toonami finished the run of literally one of the biggest anime in the past few decades, one big enough that a mere comic crossover with the Ninja Turtles lit the internet up, one that is getting a live-action movie from the director of Shang Chi, and this is what they did for it. Nothing. DeMarco’s excuse seems easy enough -
  10. People nostalgic for video stores sometimes seem nostalgic for the ability to gatekeep, to ensure that certain things aren’t watched, that you are judged if you want to watch a certain thing.
  11. Finished Kengan Ashura. Terminator Zero 1 Kinnikuman Perfect Origin 7.
  12. Of all the film franchises for Carrey to do and be invested in, from a guy who is legendary for disliking sequels, Sonic was not the choice I would have had.
  13. Brings back memories of MST3K knowing they were on dubious legal ground, so they ended every episode with “Keep Circulating The Tapes.” Imagine where we would be without those brave souls firing up a VCR recording an SLP quality recording of something otherwise lost to an archive.
  14. I’m only mentioning the last part because Moon has actually been a big part of their advertising for Rewind. You’ll be watching King of the Hill reruns on a Saturday and you’ll see the ads with Usagi front and center. Still, if it’s Japanese only, maybe that means they can air a rerun outside of that 5pm Friday timeslot.
  15. https://www.engadget.com/viz-media-makes-sailor-moon-and-other-anime-classics-available-for-free-on-youtube-181843348.html?guccounter=1 Way to take away what seemed to be Rewind's biggest attraction. Also, right on the heels of Eternal on Netflix.
  16. It’s a Rick and Morty anime that doesn’t appeal to anime fans or Rick and Morty fans. Did DeMarco write this?
  17. You’re making me wish DeMarco got an American studio to do his little train wreck.
  18. I think, for better or worse, there’s a reason the most popular anime on Netflix are things like Baki, Kengan, and Record of Ragnarok. Although the considerable success of shows like My Happy Marriage and Delicious in Dungeon also show there’s more than one way to be successful. But when DeMarco gets the purse strings, we get FLCL Part 5: Jason Takes Manhattan, or a Rick and Morty anime that doesn’t appeal to anime fans or Rick and Morty fans. They have nearly 30 years of exhibit proof as to what has consistently worked and what hasn’t worked. But that vision of a “bespoke” action block, a goal that should be an admirable one so we don’t all drown in an endless deluge of Shounen Jump adaptations, has resulted in flop after flop after flop. Even so, DeMarco has avoided the Eye of Zaslav so far because Toonami is a niche block, but now he’s executive producing an animated Lord of the Rings film that by all rights should not exist, starring a Girlboss character so important to the lore Tolkien never even bothered to name her. If that bombs, I don’t see DeMarco being long for Toonami, because that will be a much bigger failure.
  19. No you are not. DeMarco is the original Tumblr anime “improver” it seems, liking aesthetics but failing to understand the story while declaring tropes as “problematic” and the like. It’s clear for his love of FLCL, he failed to get why it worked.
  20. Kind of curious how it does this week, since Netflix finally put up the Eternal movie, and with that they have the entirety of Crystal up.
  21. Nah, but DeMarco’s career with Warner might be if this bombs.
  22. I know some of the translations called her “Ms. Bloody Sunday.”
