Invincible Fight Girl Episode 3 Discussion
Jman replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Holy crap this thread is empty. This show is not connecting with anyone it feels like. All the other CN transplants felt like they had something, Genndy had the benefit of the doubt thanks to decades of cred and Primal for Unicorn. MAWS had a Superman who was actually kind of nice, not two degrees separated from Homelander or a Snyder archetype. This has… -
I’m sort of accepting at the gym I’m not the main character, I’m the supporting mentor type. God this is what it feels like to get older.

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier

No one made talkback threads this week. That is proof we all aren’t thinking about this block. -
https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2024-10-23/this-powder-can-remove-as-much-co2-from-the-air-as-a-tree If the idea of these plants works out, three dozen of these at scale, with about 2000 tons of the dust each where old coal plants used to be, let's see... .5 lbs of this stuff absorbs 48lbs of carbon which can be sold to corporations to put in sodas, beers, etc. So one ton would hold nearly 53 tons of carbon out of the atmosphere. We need to remove about 100,000,000,000 tons of CO2 from everything to even out. Essentially we'd need at least half a dozen to a dozen of these in every state in what used to be coal plants to successfully hit the carbon removal goal if it can be produced at cost. OK, if they get this working, and it actually works out at a scalable rate...we might actually be alright.

Is it possible to be depressed, fatalist, yet optimistic at the same time? I’ve been moving through all three these past few days.

If humanity survives all this, big fucking question mark, there's going to be a chapter on how not regulating internet misinformation from the start and re-establishing the Fairness Doctrine during the Clinton administration led to the bullshit we're dealing with now. Vaccine denial, climate denial, assuming Trump gives a single rat fuck about an Arkansas dirt farmer's grocery bill... You know why the New Deal worked before anything that didn’t help a billionaire buy a new mansion or a yacht was seen as communism? Because it was building actual infrastructure. Roads, bridges, plumbing, etc. We could have had that with an infrastructure bill for a green future, but no. The MTG’s hiss at anything that has the word Green in it, so we’re fucked.

More of Megaton Musashi W. How many plot lines can one game have?!

Now that the show has failed to hit the top 10 on Max, which is actually something all of the Adult Swim original action shows that weren't FLCL sequels have done since they started measuring a top 10 (so roughly going back to Ninja Kamui) I think an issue here is that...men don't want to see men beat up women in a sport context. This is another ramble, but hear me out. It's one thing for Wonder Woman or the Powerpuff Girls to beat up bad guys. They have superpowers, and they clearly have an ability that puts them beyond normal thugs. But in the context of a sport, well, we don't have men fight women in combat sports for a reason. It feels wrong to have a dude wail on a girl. I mean the whole setup is kind of stupid for a serialized show we're supposed to take semi-seriously, (it worked in Kinnikuman because the warring factions of superhumans decided pro wrestling matches were a more sporting way to settle their battles than all-out war, as well as a means to limit collateral damage), but that sort of thing just makes you feel icky more than anything. Tiger Mask had female villains, but when they got in the ring, they fought other women, which is probably why W had a subplot of the main character's female manager taking on the mantle of Spring Tiger to wrestle herself, so she could wrestle other women when having Tiger Mask himself beat them up would just feel wrong. I'm also not the biggest fan of Andy's design, since it hits all the Current Year stereotypes, and doesn't really lend itself well to action in an equal setting without superpowers.

Golf is a fucking expensive hobby. Maybe this is why I liked grappling so much. Lack of necessary equipment. Still the lesson today really fixed a big flaw in my game. Now I just need to be consistent so I can play with family, friends, and clients.

Invincible Fight Girl premieres on Toonami on November 2nd
Jman replied to Sketch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I might be expecting too much that actual professionals engage with their material outside of the most surface-level takes, but Ultimate Muscle was fairly successful in the US, to the point that it got a whole extra season because of its popularity here. Why are you trying to imitate anime in the first place? That's my first question. The guy has experience on numerous comic book adaptations that didn't need to imitate anime. We have our own distinctive art styles. Use those. This already looks girlbossed to hell with the usual Current Year requirements, and the fact that it is a cargo cult of a production is not helping. -

Western animators trying to imitate anime are the equivalent of cargo cults. How the hell do you mention a wrestling show based on anime and not mention Kinnikuman or Tiger Mask once? Especially Tiger Mask if you’re a fan of pro wrestling given there have been six wrestlers that have carried the mantle and with the exception of Minowa (who’s a cult figure in MMA) they’re all legends?! It’s not like the franchises have been idle either. But your influence is Naruto?! I know I shouldn’t be annoyed, but I can’t help it. -
The lack of any new info on Get Jiro! has me thinking that hits late 2025/early 2026 provided we're all still alive.

My mom just got out of surgery. No complications or anything but still, I’m hoping she recovers alright.

Cheeseburger, the smashed kind at a little hole in the wall. I wasn’t going to go initially but the guys were all “Come on, let’s go as a group,” and naturally I caved into peer pressure. -
