That's the point. This whole series is Toriyama gleefully dismantling the mythos around DB perpetuated by the fans and Toei in the most anticlimactic, asinine ways possible for the lulz. This doesn't make the show good, at all, but in most of the cases, everything that seems to make the show sillier and dumber is by design. It's supposed to be stupid.

Fixed what you broke. Discussions about how necessary the Toonami packaging was got heated back in the day. As it stands, it creates a block identity that's far more welcoming than the half the time Dadaist, half the time sarcastic insults of the fans from ASA of yore. Which of course is Marketing 101 - If you tell the consumer the product sucks enough times without any valid counterpoint, eventually, they believe it.

Hasbro had Toei animate most of their shows in the mid-80's, including Transformers and GI Joe. It's why people occasionally argue if Transformers G1 counts as anime.
