  1. Rick and Morty forever and ever! Rick and Morty 100 years! Rick and Morty.com!
  2. I might warm up to it, but the trailer looks generic and the staff doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence.
  3. ... So, in the grand tradition of Western influenced anime being sort of lame knockoffs of original stuff, we got...more generic One Piece. Or Samurai Gun II - When it comes to disappointing, DeMarco never disappoints.
  4. How far off the mark will DeMarco’s taste be this time?
  5. In the West anyway. Usually you need to be based on a product from the 80’s heyday or be attached to an existing comic or video game l, and hopefully have the right people (Hi Warren Ellis, you still suck). But it’s a fascinating look into the difficulties of such, even with the rise of streaming.
  6. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1820796125/swat-kats-revolution/posts/2901724 And you know if it does land on Warner Toonami will probably air it.
  7. Crunchyroll’s doing a virtual panel at 10amPST. Let’s see if they present something worth a damn. https://comiccon2020.sched.com/event/d200/crunchyroll-industry-panel
  8. https://www.mediaplaynews.com/tag/the-binge-report/ One Piece is one of the 10 most binged shows on Netflix, which is probably causing DeMarco to throw things at the wall.
  9. Everything is down, and the tail end of a brutal UFC title fight wasn’t helping matters. Toonami needs fresh content, all there is to it.
  10. And here I already made the “Knowing is half the battle” joke.
  11. This is also why Western influence is such a double edged sword. As companies struggle to maintain independence, they also gain insights and ideas for plots and ideas that an overly insular community may lack. And sometimes that does well, like how Ghost of Tsushima did as a game. What matters at the end of the day for the block is getting the best examples of a genre rather than completely ignoring it because of a lot of bad entries, while the audience will eventually move people past the fad. At this point, all we can do is support series that go against those fads.
  12. Toonami not getting Yamato 2199 still bugs me.
  13. The isekai genre has been pretty ran into the ground, although my whole thing is sort of like my issues with a lot of the Webtoon comics. They don’t take advantage of the myriad of settings one could be placed in and always opt for vaguely medieval like how Webtoons (when they aren’t shitty unfunny Western comedies) are usually urban fantasy or European flavored fantasy. Even Knights and Magic did that and it was supposed to be a mecha isekai, the first notable one since Rayearth (still a better mecha show than Voltron). Personally I think the concept has run its course. At the least, the medieval setting has.
  14. Not sure if it was even there. And the other answer is that they cycle through their content to keep it fresh rather than keeping the dedicated archive. I reaffirm that it would still be infinitely preferable to Onyx Equinox, at which point DeMarco’s shit taste will have reached new levels of shit.
  15. Tower of God is meh, but it’s still better than Onyx Equinox or...High Guardian Spice.
  16. All that being said, when it comes to sloppy leftovers from the content fridge, you occasionally get some good moments. The aforementioned GI JOE bought us this piece of patriotic insanity lovingly nicknamed “War on Terror - The Musical” that’s still better than the entirety of Rise of Cobra. Or the Hamtaro promos - So at least there’s that. Ballmasterz can’t even do that much.
  17. No he doesn’t. Which would be fine if he had something to substitute for them. Judging by the continued presence of Ballmasterz, he does not.
  18. Considering DeMarco probably misses Blockbuster, that’s not too far off. The fact of the matter is that Toonami, although they’re taking baby steps, cannot control the market the way Netflix or even Crunchyroll can. They don’t have the budget to join production committees or directly negotiate with studios. DeMarco’s shit taste aside, if a bigger company wants an anime with Americans in mind, it’s easier for them to get the ball rolling. “Here’s money. Go make Kengan Ashura.” Not an option for DeMarco.
  19. I have scoured Youtube for the commercials for that (The Adult Swim Super Nonsexy 5:30 Funtime) and found nada. Which sucks because I found the Saved by the Bell promos. There’s a question - Saved by the Bell or Ballmasterz?
  20. Because 2020 is hell, Ballmasterz returns for more cringe-tastic content, Only Toonami. I gotta tell myself Crunchyroll isn’t doing all that better on the originals front, with one show a laughingstock and FreakAngels likely being quietly shitcanned.
  21. I’m just happy it’s a Japanese studio, and not involving Ellis. Wonder whatever happened to that Devil May Cry series announced in 2018.
  22. That website wasn’t even all the accusations. Netflix, Frederator Studios, Powerhouse animation, and Crunchyroll have all be silent. Silent. Yeah, sure, “you’re canceled! #XIsOverParty!” Yeah, until it’s a show Twitter likes because it has lesbian vampires or whatever the fuck. Just like how The Dragon Prince production was toxic as hell, abusive, but the fans go “#GiveUsTheSaga!” Shove the saga right up your ass and give the money to a Japanese studio. The writers probably won’t be demanding sex for jobs.
  23. I would argue being an attempt to fill air time makes Joe a lot more like Ballmasterz. Except Joe maybe had nostalgia going for it. Ballmasterz only has cringe.
