  1. What was revolutionary in 1999 and 2001 was painfully outdated in 2019. The GTA series being a thing and the Yakuza series gaining popularity in the West did not help.
  2. Short version - An incredibly ambitious adventure game that was the precursor to the modern open world games, but was hampered by its abysmal pacing and legendarily shitty dub. Most of what it did was refined properly in the Yakuza series, which is generally considered “Shenmue, but good.” The first two games were released by Sega on the Dreamcast and the original Xbox, and decades later, a crowdfunded third chapter was released on PS4 to critical bashing.
  3. The correct answer is a Shenmue anime... Can it defy Shenmue tradition and have a not-dogshit dub? It’s not cute or endearing. Yakuza got George Takei for its next game...
  4. “Excuse me, do you know where sailors hang out?”
  5. It came up in the podcast thread, but this deserves its own topic. Here’s the question, what do you think the announcement will be? New co-production? Toonami rebranding? Toonami airing Shield Hero as the convention is supposed to announce more seasons? An Uzumaki trailer? Place your bets!
  6. And if WarnerMedia sells Crunchyroll they’re FUBAR. And don’t see it happening for that reason.
  7. https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2020/09/01-1/anime-in-america-taps-jason-demarco-and-roland-kelts-to-talk-anime-on-tv?utm_source=community_cr&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=news&referrer=community_cr_twitter_news As much as we rag on his current state, the guy is probably a historical repository on the history of airings and old stories. That I wouldn’t mind hearing.
  8. They made a follow up video using the poor treatment of Frylock’s VA as a “gotcha, now shut the fuck up” argument.
  9. Genndy returns with the second half of his limited series, and a reason to watch Adult Swim.
  10. “Da 5 Bloods” starts with a reading of that poem as well.
  11. People are dying in the street. I kind of get why some are being heavy handed. Not that it keeps the content police from getting in your face.
  12. Expect the usual anti-woke videos to be pissed off as fuck at Toonami.
  13. Sonoda’s artistic choices aside, it’s a story about propaganda and the news cycle influencing people. Which makes it extremely relevant.
  14. It’s on Netflix right now, so my guess is they couldn’t even if they wanted to. But then, that’s why I bought the BTAS Boxset (along with the Batman Beyond one).
  15. Update! Keep making it obvious you’re putting Crunchyroll on blast lady. And then wonder why the Avatar clones get cancelled for My Wife Is a Demon Queen. So Crunchyroll were the ones that are declaring Avatar clones and “diversity” poison if she is to be believed (and many people suspect she may not be being totally honest). So after Onyx Equinox flops we won’t see shows like it ever again. I made my mandatory Exaxxion reference, but imagine a new age where these Avatar clones are rejected on sight in favor of original stuff or adaptations of things that should have gotten anime’s by now.
  16. Take that Jericho! NBA and UFC winning the night is no surprise to sports fans, but Batman = Ratings. Honestly, you could just put the block on hold till Fire Force starts and go through the remaining good Batman DTV films and it would probably do better than the cobbled together quilt of reruns and Black Clover. People will tune in for the month, and you even have a built in slogan - “Same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel!”
  17. https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/powerpuff-girls-live-action-series-cw-1234746828/ Here’s the pitch - Just drink it in ladies and gentlemen. Drink in the desperation of trying to make more superhero stories.
  18. Well after she salted the earth like she did her pilot is dead on arrival. I think there’s something to be said about surface level diversity and how it drowns out actual minority creators, but if this means Crunchyroll throws all the Avatar clone pitches in the garbage and green lights Cannon God Exaxxion, I won’t complain.
  19. Which is totally a Joker thing to do. One last joke on Batman.
  20. She all but said it when she mentioned the trailer. Maybe this is a false flag operation and the woman is just some neck beard in Minnesota lying about cast lists. I’d laugh.
  21. Did anyone mention the Conan O’Brien cameo?
  22. I know. These are relics lost to time before what Toonami became was finalized. Turner was sort of infamous for that, repacking old assets under new skins.
  23. Even if she is a talentless hack, the idea that CR is rejecting Avatar clones on sight is still big news. And to be honest, fairly welcome. Avatar clones have worn out their welcome years ago.
  24. Because the well has been poisoned by pink haired Karen’s who saw their shows get greenlit only for all the merchandise to be tossed in discount bins and cost the company a fortune.
  25. The “joys” of social media and dirty laundry airing. Short version - Crunchyroll considers pitches based on diversity poison now thanks to a certain show that will not be mentioned and this animator was told to pound sand with her pitch. She is arguing that years of shows sold solely on diversity had hit the inevitable course correction, with a lot of pitches laughed out of boardrooms the second the word “diverse” is mentioned.
