What was revolutionary in 1999 and 2001 was painfully outdated in 2019. The GTA series being a thing and the Yakuza series gaining popularity in the West did not help.

Short version - An incredibly ambitious adventure game that was the precursor to the modern open world games, but was hampered by its abysmal pacing and legendarily shitty dub. Most of what it did was refined properly in the Yakuza series, which is generally considered “Shenmue, but good.” The first two games were released by Sega on the Dreamcast and the original Xbox, and decades later, a crowdfunded third chapter was released on PS4 to critical bashing.

The correct answer is a Shenmue anime... Can it defy Shenmue tradition and have a not-dogshit dub? It’s not cute or endearing. Yakuza got George Takei for its next game...

Update! Keep making it obvious you’re putting Crunchyroll on blast lady. And then wonder why the Avatar clones get cancelled for My Wife Is a Demon Queen. So Crunchyroll were the ones that are declaring Avatar clones and “diversity” poison if she is to be believed (and many people suspect she may not be being totally honest). So after Onyx Equinox flops we won’t see shows like it ever again. I made my mandatory Exaxxion reference, but imagine a new age where these Avatar clones are rejected on sight in favor of original stuff or adaptations of things that should have gotten anime’s by now.

Honestly, you could just put the block on hold till Fire Force starts and go through the remaining good Batman DTV films and it would probably do better than the cobbled together quilt of reruns and Black Clover. People will tune in for the month, and you even have a built in slogan - “Same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel!”

She is arguing that years of shows sold solely on diversity had hit the inevitable course correction, with a lot of pitches laughed out of boardrooms the second the word “diverse” is mentioned.
