  1. I imagine she would need to sell it as a “custom art piece as the client dictated” in a similar manner to doujin. When you make it appear this is mass production, the lawyers come in.
  2. If the show debuted last month, it would be a decent CG show but nothing groundbreaking, which is a bad look for something associated with Blade Runner anyway. Now? It’s competing against a raised bar. This seems to be a major issue with Toonami, beaten to the punch in quality and timing by opposition that doesn’t always bat a thousand and has quite a bit that could be considered straight up crap (oh hai Yasuke) but seems to absolutely crush it when it matters.
  3. From what I understand, big chains need to get the license (Walmart and the like) while local bakeries can’t advertise online. It’s like how a custom costume shop isn’t technically making a Batman(TM) costume, but a generic Bat-guy costume. This owner advertised online and since Japan is way stricter about this sort of thing, sent in the lawyers.
  4. Official reviews are out and are thoroughly divided. There’s a lot of people who liked it as well as people who despised it. Not going to lie, it feels like the people who hated it were people who went in wanting to hate it, and vice versa.
  5. I feel like this show had the really bad luck to debut two weeks AFTER Arcane, which raised the bar on CG.
  6. To bring this thread full circle, the guy playing Seiya is the same guy playing Zoro in live action One Piece. Yeah, take that 2017 me!
  7. Reviews seem mixed as hell as both sides declare victory in the ongoing culture war. You were never going to get a consensus here.
  8. Creeps. If they expect anyone outside of a porn star with plastic surgery to have those proportions, they need to go outside and touch some grass. She was the only one who campaigned for the role! She’s fine. Apparently Taz Skylar’s been posting some Tik Tok videos showing him doing some Sanji mannerisms and he seems to nail them. As long as he’s not cooking with the blue and yellow purple pills he’ll be fine. Give me a bit to get over the look. This probably won’t be out till 2023 earliest anyway.
  9. It’s been on Netflix for a few weeks in preparation for the live action version.
  10. Episode 2 of Season 2 is out, and boy oh boy is it awful. The Union’s origin is quite frankly one of the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Go watch Sakugan or AMAIM. If DeMarco is smart, he will stay far, far away, and Michael B Jordan will treat this series the way Will Smith treats Wild Wild West.
  11. Of all the cuts MHA has done with Western comics, referencing Baby Doll from that one episode of Batman The Animated Series wasn't one I was expecting.
  12. A day in, let's review the casting - Inaki Godoy as Luffy - No, I've never seen him in anything but it's clear from his welcome video that he can get across the goofy energy that Luffy is known for, and he looks the part. The question is if he can handle the serious stuff. And hey, Mexican lead in what plans to be one of the biggest shows Netflix has ever done. That's pretty cool. Mackenyu as Zoro - The son of the legendary Sonny Chiba, the guy is starting his Western acting career (following a bit role in Pacific Rim Uprising) as Zoro and Pegasus Seiya. Way to start head first. Still, he does his own action scenes. Emily Rudd as Nami - Rudd has been a fan of OP even before this and was apparently campaigning for the role. She was apparently in the Fear Street movies, which I haven't seen. Jacob Romero Gibson as Ussop - Oda said Ussop was African, so everyone claiming "wah, diversity" can shut the fuck up. Don't think he's been in too much either. Taz Skylar as Sanji - Well... Come on, I can't be the only one who sees it.
  13. Sort of a microcosm of everything wrong with the productions. Amateurs with no leg to stand on getting to tell a story.
  14. …They’re airing the second LA movie but not the first? Shouldn’t the first air the week before or something?
  15. The guy playing Zoro is apparently the son of the late great Sonny Chiba. That’s a point in his favor. (Fun fact, his dad played Golgo 13 in a live action movie).
  16. The live action Strawhats may have leaked -
  17. Deadline has the total announcements here - https://deadline.com/2021/11/netflix-slate-japanese-anime-live-action-titles-1234870477/ Stone Ocean will be released monthly in 12 episode increments. Yu Yu Hakusho debuts December 2023. Alice in Borderland S2 hits next year to scratch the Squid Game itch. More Aggretsuko next month. Gundam reveals its first concept art heavily implying it’s an adaptation of the original series. No word on who Chris Pratt might play. Seven Deadly Sins movies. Season 2 of Tiger and Bunny. And some other stuff.
  18. Actually IIRC I think they were going to release Stone Ocean weekly. Of course if that’s not true please feel free to throw eggs and tomatoes at the nearest Netflix employee.
  19. Also 20 titles. I expect to hear Chainsaw Man and possibly Kaiju No 8.
  20. They’re releasing one episode at a time, and now are going for an “all sides are bad” approach.
  21. The Reddit is not happy. The animation is even worse (no one likes Dragon Prince for the animation, they like it despite that), and the plot is not good. Toonami would be better suited getting AMAIM or Sakugan.
  22. Would have fit right in with Iron Maiden the other week. Does anyone have a video of what they did air if it wasn’t Ozzy and Motörhead?
  23. Music video? It wasn't this one, was it? I feel like if Ozzy debuted this anniversary video/tribute to Lemmy on Toonami, it would have been bigger news.
