  1. Making One Piece is one thing. Spending all this money on it is where I get confused. They can definitely afford to make Alvida’s actress drop the weight.
  2. Looks like the ads are in Grand Central Station, the busiest subway hub in the city. Plenty of people probably see them.
  3. DeMarco implied he asked for it during S1 and Crunchyroll turned him down IIRC.
  4. First trailer. The presumption is that this is in fact a period piece.
  5. Cartoon Network is a primary source for Primal. Less so their other lineup. Not to mention Shenmue just ended so a rerun isn’t high priority.
  6. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/rick-morty-anime-spinoff-1235149017/ Granted, the show has had full blown anime shorts before, but this is a full season.

  8. Literally an hour later they canceled more Western cartoons. I seriously expect to see a Bad Guys TV show and a full on Rayearth remake at this rate as they cancel yet another Western animation project that’s been in development for two years.
  9. The money they saved by canceling a ton of clout projects and laying off employees, apparently. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/netflix-scraps-2-kids-animated-series-1235138508/amp/ https://www.gamesradar.com/bone-cancelled-netflix/
  10. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/cannes-japanese-anime-worlds-most-bankable-genre-1235146810/ This while their Western animation department and releases were utterly gutted.
  11. I was talking about the sexual stuff.
  12. Yeah but not only would it be sliced to ribbons, the dub wouldn’t be available for months on streaming services.
  13. Rev up the chainsaws and prepare for an adaptation of the hit manga.
  14. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-05-16/fire-force-gets-3rd-anime-season-original-video-game/.185670 $5 says the game is another arena brawler since that’s what Shounens get (grumbles no one has looked at MHA and given it an Ultimate Alliance style RPG).
  15. Primal is back on Toonami despite Genndy not wanting it there. I still remember the debut of the show during New York Comic Con. They had the show in the Manhattan Center, specifically the Grand Ballroom (still a legendary venue for concerts and indie pro wrestling) and it was a big deal, since it was something he described as animation in a pure form. Hardly any dialog, no real limits on what he could show, it was an attempt at visual storytelling at its most fundamental and proud. And it still works, really well. It's proof of several things that the naysayers would doubt. It's proof that you can have an effective story without needing to have people talk every five seconds. It's proof that you can make a very effective action cartoon without having to pretend you're Japanese. And it's proof there is an audience for this sort of animation.
  16. As Netflix stock tumbles and on the heels of Cowboy Bebop being absolutely mutilated by self-inflicted censorship and alterations, it looks like Netflix is reaffirming its dedication to no censorship and shows that can make them money. That probably means less live-action anime butchering and more Dave Chappelle.
  17. Cults, career paths, and probably something else DeMarco can't air.
  18. Its box office will be the butt of Family Guy jokes for years.
  19. Well they did sell their provider.
  20. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-05-08/my-hero-academia-gets-original-2-episode-anime-this-summer/.185411 Superheroes playing baseball is straight out of the Silver Age so that gets a pass -
  21. Was waiting for them all to be up in a playlist. Still, at least they’re all set.
  22. That and the FLCL fetish. And the Bebop worship, but he couldn’t even convert that into mockery of the LA Bebop because Blum refused to shit on the show. What’s the point of being loud if you can’t be loud when it counts?
  23. It’s more proof people arguing on the internet don’t matter.
