  1. Friday is all about video game adaptations. They could still surprise us. Realistically, now that Sega optioned a Yakuza movie, I don’t see an anime being made.
  2. So much for following Uzumaki with…anything.
  3. Time to go back to society.
  4. The second episode is essentially “Endeavor vs Graffiti”. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-06-07/crunchyroll-licenses-reveals-anime-expo-premieres-for-my-hero-academia-season-5-ovas-shine-on-/.186428 Both have been licensed by Crunchyroll and will debut at Anime Expo in July.
  5. Gotta find some way to piss off everyone. And now everyone is pissed off. Netflix has made these casting choices symbolic of bad shows. It’s messed up when you get some distance from the property that black actress = unfaithful, crappy show in the minds of so many. If Robin Williams couldn’t make Popeye work, then Godoy doesn’t have a chance to make Luffy work.
  6. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-06-07/one-piece-manga-takes-1-month-break-as-eiichiro-oda-prepares-for-manga-final-saga/.186407 Presumably, Oda wants to finish his manga before the show gets up to it, unaware the show will last one season, and everyone will hate it. You're not George RR Martin, and this isn't A Song of Ice and Fire.
  7. No trailers or footage, just casting and physical sets. Yeah, the woman playing Nojiko is getting the usual reception.
  8. It's the definitive joke choice. The choice that is so obscene and out there that no one would realistically think it could air. So when even that's locked down by another company, it shows how slim the pickings are.
  9. Well CW’s dismantling has been an open secret for a while now, with all their shows either being canceled or given finite end dates. TBS and TNT no longer have original programming being made for them, with sports and programming from elsewhere filling the void.
  10. As Netflix continues to lean out their animation offerings, they delve deeper into anime with “Everyone is horny for gambling” getting a prequel series.
  11. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-06-04/theater-poster-dragon-ball-super-super-hero-opens-in-u.s-on-august-19/.186327 Close out the summer with the new Dragon Ball movie.

  12. Netflix. Doing pretty well there because they keep canceling non-Japanese cartoons.
  13. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-06-03/sk-global-bandai-namco-pictures-plan-to-produce-english-live-action-tiger-and-bunny-series/.186278 We have run the US comic well dry, hence all these manga and anime projects.
  14. New key visual. I fully expect a lot of Twitter whining about this show if it’s as faithful to the manga as they claim it will be (essentially Netflix gave them the same freedom as Dave Chappelle to do whatever).
  15. If Genndy doesn’t object to it, it’s probably just Primal. Uzumaki isn’t due till Halloween, and the new originals are just announced (plus there’s a more than zero chance the Rick and Morty anime just airs Sunday between Rick and Morty seasons proper to keep the Rick train going). It’s telling they can’t even get sloppy seconds at this point that aren’t legacy airings. For God’s sake, AMC has Sentai and with it, Redo of Healer, the definitive joke choice that would at least get the block attention. When that’s locked down, what do we have?
  16. Enough do that you see the overlap at conventions all the time (this from someone who prefers real fighting to scripted combat). Of course, the streaming crunch has proven that you cannot make something everyone will like. It’s just the nature of the beast. The AEW joke is more elaborate, that the French Toonami channel does air AEW, so “AEWToonami” trends on Twitter on occasion.
  17. The idea Toonami has to make originals is interesting. I’m wondering if they were stick with pure original concepts or if they’ll do what Netflix does and adapt lesser known manga. I mean if Netflix adapts Bastard!! DeMarco needs to adapt something similarly as cool.
  18. Bob is at #3 behind Doctor Strange and Top Gun. Being a damn musical didn’t help.
  19. Rangers forced Game 7. Again. It can never be easy, can it?
  20. It came out yesterday. It’s currently tracking worldwide to make $30 million total, half its budget.
  21. https://www.thefilmik.com/the-bobs-burgers-movie-budget-revealed/ Who the hell thought Bob’s Burgers needed $60 million?! And the same weekend as Top Gun? This is going to bomb as audience feel the need, the need for speed.
  22. Looks like we’re going to get our first look at what they’ve come up with on June 6. In the interim, Netflix has added more episodes of the anime proper to their service.
  23. Apple TV?! You’re supposed to have all the original, artsy stuff! Shame!
