Meanwhile, Demon Slayer over the weekend was #7 on the Netflix Top 10 which is good because the new Castlevania series apparently sucks ass. We’ll see how the audience reacts to Shoegaze but I point this out because Demon Slayer wasn’t a big show for Toonami, then Netflix airs it, supercharged the Mugen Train release, and that was arguably the beginning of the end for Toonami as a major player. I guess there’s the Rick and Morty anime but that’s basically a curio for people.

Meanwhile Netflix is just “Oh, BTW. Devil May Cry anime.” How do you compete with this on the originals front? Hell, if you want to go “oh, but what about linear?” Pluto TV, which is free, has several 24 hour anime channels, right now airing stuff ranging from JoJo to Sailor Moon Crystal. This block is surviving on goodwill from yesteryear, but even now when people hear Toonami, they might start to think “that thing I watched as a kid” or in a few years, “that thing my mom and dad watched”.
