I've figured out what the confusing show is... it's... Detective Conan! All 900 episodes! At a rate of about 50 episodes a year that would only take us... 18 years to watch! We can all enjoy it together on Toonami until 2036.

Eh it just sounds like some people wanted the story to go the other route instead of the one it ended up going. I would still say he gets his powers by proving that you can be a hero without powers. A lot of heroes get their powers for less of a reason, Spiderman gets bitten by a random spider. Fantastic four get random powers by getting accidentally blasted by radiation. Hulk.. same thing. I mean is it a little bait and switchy at the start? Sure, but it didn't bother me that they decided to go a different way with the story.

Well you can easily argue that he earned it. Just wait until episode 2 then see how you feel.

I'm still not sure why that bothers you so much. One of the old Iron Man versions was crippled and couldn't walk... except when he was in the Iron Man suit. Daredevil was blind... then develops super hearing that lets him "see" better than normal people. Batman had no powers, but spends billions on gear and a utility belt that basically gives him powers. Heroes have a long history of getting around their disabilities or being powerless. If Deku was super smart and built a power suit It sounds like you'd accept this premise more.

Yeah but remember how we said that and ran Kai marathons and found out Kai marathons > the regular schedule even on a holiday? What we should have learned is that you don't have to just write every single holiday off and expect low ratings. This is gonna be Bebop marathon low.

DB isn't exactly Stein's Gate when it comes to Time Travel.

But also keep in mind... OPM was airing second after Kai, not third after the Dragonball hour of Death. I actually thought MHA would be closer to 80 since so many people have gotten used to tuning out after the DB hour.

I would say that part of the entire reason I like anime more than most movies, is anime gives you way more time to build up characters and a storyline. An hour and a half to 2 hours just isn't enough to make me care about a world/ characters/story. If it was enough, we'd probably see a lot more 3 or 4 episode anime. This is probably the reason none of these videogame and anime adaptations ever end up being very good. Fun fact... this was the original video that started the "Guile's theme goes with everything" meme. If you've never seen the movie you should. It's awful but it's a classic.

What are you talking about, 88 percent for the slot of death is insanely good. I'm not sure any show has done better airing behind the DBZ power hour. Most shows are low 80's and frequently dip into the 70's. FLCL did 80. Jojo did 82. 84 for Kai. So out of the first 3 shows airing after Super, MHA had the best retention. And that's the area where you lose a shitload of viewers if you don't have a super popular show.

Oh and odd timing, but Re Zero's English dub just dropped.

How the hell can MHA not be considered a premiere. TG from 2014 was considered a premiere right?

Well you can look at it that way. But you can also look at it that not becoming a dick because you were bullied is a good hero trait. One of the big themes of this show is that most of the people trying to be heroes aren't actually very heroic. A lot of them are assholes, and some of them seem like they'd have made better villains than heroes but chose being a hero because its easier and more profitable.

Unfortunately it's airing after Kai with very little promotion so the ratings won't be as good as people think.

OMG SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 2!! Look it's a fair criticism and the shows only weak point really. But I would argue that his dream of becoming "the best" superhero like All Might was never realistic. Kind of like a kid born with one leg who wants to be the next Usain Bolt. You can tell him not to give up on his dreams but we know it's not going to happen. But if that kid suddenly gets an artificial leg that lets him run as fast as all the people with 2 legs, are you really rooting against him after that?
