Such a little cutie bird. He's all like 'You want a piece of this? All 1 oz. of me will mess you up right here, right now.' Probably an early fledgling - some of them fly like little lead balloons with built-in window magnets attached to their heads. You did the best thing. It's the cold of the ground that usually takes them out in shock if they survive the window so getting them off the ground and some place 'peaceful' usually does the trick. In the fall, I usually end up picking up little migrating birds off the sidewalks in the morning and hold them until they warm up and can fly again. It's fun.

rants Haters/Complainers: Legacy of Spleen
katt_goddess replied to mthor's topic in General Discussion
Every place that is still opens smells like hospital now. I'm about to PTSD and start throwing things. -
I've been threatening to wear the catsuit to work since this whole thing started to really hit the fan. So far the answer has been 'nope' . I'll let y'all know if that changes because if it does, we are all seriously arf'd.

No fears, dude. I wasn't jumping at you, I was just venting for the sake of venting.

There is no such thing as an adequate bailout for something like this. The bigger places and those that could afford to buy favor with politicians will get first and choices dibs on everything, then corporate heads of smaller businesses, maybe with a little trickle down to the people who actually do all the work at the floor level, and then the smaller personal businesses will get little 'gift baskets' of things they can attempt to apply for while their bills keep adding up. I wish I was being sarcastic or hyperbolistic about that but I'm not. Some companies, both big and small, will be able to weather the losses and maybe roll it into some extra tax credit crap and just have a crappy year on the books. Some might end up dying in debt though. I worry about my favorite Asian grocery place - I've watched them grow it from the a crowded front end of a tear-down building to a fully stocked import grocery store complete with fresh crab and lobster tanks. She's put everything she's made into rebuilding that place and making sure it's stocked up for the various ethnic communities that can't get their old favorites anywhere else. This is a place that I'm honestly thinking about making a run to tomorrow if there is no shelter in place rule in-acted tonight and just buying some stuff to help her out. Dried squid lasts forever anyway, right? More hours cut for next week. Hours are also being chopped all to hell for the following week too since we are working on the presumption that things will still be open / left to the discretion of various businesses. I went from 40 to 30 for next week. I cut my own hours for yesterday and today so that payroll could be used to keep a couple of part-timers on schedule for tomorrow at least instead of cutting them loose. -.-; I have between 8-10 weeks worth of PPTO + vacation saved up but... a lot of people at the store either don't have that saved up or they've already burned through some due to family or personal illnesses. We already have some doing food exchanges so that people have things like meat in their freezers. I'm making beef stew this weekend and freezing it - if someone needs something extra, one container = 3 meals. I also still have some chicken-in-a-pot frozen as well.

I think I found a drummer if I ever form a band.

Currently yes, my store is still open. We're watching the situation but going through business as usual for at least a sense of normalecy. But reworking next week's schedule with all the cuts to peoples' hours was brutal and horrible. Everyone there needs a paycheck. Hopefully that's the only week we have to do this sort of massive gutting. Unless the entire state says shut it down for x amount of time. That will be a whole different set of forms to deal with. -.-;

I'd say this is great for all those people who every year resolve that they are going to eat better and lose weight. But then I see the people leaving the grocery store with carts full of pop, chips and frozen pizzas...and tp.

They've been in my building TWICE in the past 7 days. The doors are supposed to be security locked at all times but some chuckle-nut is either propping a door open for their idiot friends or letting them in directly.

The UnevenEdge Book Challenge!...
katt_goddess replied to katt_goddess's topic in Arts, Literature & Music
That's one of the reasons I try to space out my manga reading by alternating with other books. I could blow through 100 mangas in a month easily but then I'd have all these other books staring at me sadly because I ignored them. -
Looks like you've cornered the market on brussel sprouts... <.< >.>

Is it social distancing, convenience or sheer laziness
katt_goddess replied to Still Me's topic in Free-For-All
I'm so glad I picked up a pint at the store the other day otherwise this thread would cause rages. Signs went up on the doors of the apartment building yesterday. I don't think any delivery people will be delivering into the building for awhile out of general caution. -.-; -

I can understand that for places like Australia. They have to import a lot of things like that based on what they can and can't produce on their own. But I think the US rush for the flush is purely stupid people who didn't even know Australia was a place until it caught fire.

What Would You Do - 2 Week Quarantine...
katt_goddess replied to katt_goddess's topic in Free-For-All
I am not clicking that! I already know what that is. You better be studying up for that cosplay, bub. It's going to happen come hell or high apocalypse. -
People were told to stock up on basics like tp and bottled water and food that has a long shelf life in case they can't go to the store for a couple of weeks.. Unfortunately, the same people who said that forgot that the majority of the people they were talking to are morons that probably get all their prep info from watching 'Doomsday Preppers' . They should really point out to people that if you are indeed stuck indoors for 14 days, your caloric intake should go down not up. And if you are eating less, you aren't exactly going to be running to the bathroom every half hour to work through that mountain of tp you dragged home.

You are a March babby, aren't you? Want a page out of the Aldi cat-o-log?

What Would You Do - 2 Week Quarantine...
katt_goddess replied to katt_goddess's topic in Free-For-All
^^^ These right here are the reason I wonder why people are all bitchy about having to stay home for an extended period of time. Internet nerds are proud NEETS. I have a stack of magazines I've been meaning to read along with a backlog of comics. Plenty of books and DVDs to roll through as well as a couple of series I'd like to catch up on online. Still working on Con swag for the Swag-n-Seek giveaways [ still preparing for Con season in Fall since there's no reason not to ] . Video games! Spring cleaning so I'd have extra excuses for trips to the dumpster just for the fresh air. Maybe change out of my pjs a couple of times in the 14 days. Maybe. Braid my leg hairs. Or shave my legs. It's a toss up. Continue my PhD research on Nap Fu. -
With all the emphasis on having enough supplies on hand should you end up having to self-quarantine [ here's a hint - think about your pets more than yourself, humans don't need to eat that dang much if they aren't DOING anything ] , there hasn't really been much discussion on what the general population would do for those two weeks. Except maybe the people with spawn who need to consider how to keep up with the school work when there's no school happening; also they now have to reconsider using retail stores as unpaid babysitters which is a win for everyone else. Anywho, what would you do if you were literally stuck at home for 14 days? You can't go shopping out of boredom, you might be able to run the garbage out to the curb / dumpster but otherwise you are now an Indoors Only / No Roaming animal. Discuss!...

Yes. -.-; Thank you, Hilton, for informing me that you do indeed clean the rooms.
-
Pat traded them all for some lame airplane ticket and a bottle of pop.
-
Sadly, I don't have the ability to go that deeply into another user's account to make that sort of change. It's purely an Admin thing so Pat would have to look into things at some point when he has a free moment to do that sort of thing. Also, SwimModSponges was put in charge of getting us toilet paper before the Apocalypse but he failed and is now on litter detail. Kitty litter.
-
I outright called my DM 'Outbreak Monkey' today and then coughed sadly.
-
Our lactation station area in the store is now also the Quarantine Zone. I would just rather put a big sign on the doors announcing 'If you are sick, GO HOME. You don't need glitter glue and we don't sell toilet paper' . Also...people are stealing the stupid tissue-paper seat liners for the toilets.
