Well yeah, there's that. But at least the talk is about the shows, rather than banal logistics. I sometimes pepper up the Trunks thread with some of my recent thoughts, so I'll have to do another post soon. Lucky you. It'll probably be a long time before anyone gets to 90,125 posts, and I'll probably be old and senile by the time I rack up that many.

What's really unfortunate about this is that Jason is on break from Twitter because his mom recently died. He probably could've been able to clear all of this up for us sooner.

The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
Blatch replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Split marathons on one night is a novel idea, but I dont think it'll ever happen. On the other hand, I am expecting them to double up on FLCL Progressive at some point, which seems like the easiest way to deal with a week without Kai. Also, expect an FLCL 2 rerun instead of a second new show. I'm not that optimistic. -

I'm of the opinion that they might still do a marathon on the 30th, even though it would make almost everyone complain. -
The Venture Bros. are coming back this summer!
Blatch replied to Raptorpat's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Well, you're right on one of those points: It seems kind of weird that such an unprecedented event would happen and preempt an [as] show after one episode, but I assume they give zero fucks on that front. -
And now I'm cynical again, so I want to make a comment about how Toonami fans used to discuss the actual shows rather than technical aspects of the schedule, even though that's blatantly false. Seriously, does anyone find this sad?

It's worthy of a shrug. -
Woah, holy shit. So does this mean they're going to do a marathon on the 30th and preempt Toonami for back-to-back weeks? Either way, something funky is gonna have to happen either then or on the 14th of July.

Well damn, this thread barely managed a full page. Black Clover usually isn't this unpopular, so I guess my lack of confidence in the title drove some users away.

I ain't Mochi but if I was the title would be clickbait

In other, somewhat unrelated news, bkub recently had his Twitter account suspended, although it does appear to be back for now. I was wondering if it was an intentional stunt to promote Hoshiiro Girldrop's new season, and I'm disappointed that it isn't. -
So they're cramming as many plot twists as possible into the last part of the show to try and make it better? Meh. Something similar happened with Kill la Kill, but that show was inherently watchable to begin with.

We've always seemed to want Toonami to do a little more advertising outside of its parent network, but when an FLCL Progressive ad airs during an extremely-hyped NBA playoff game and fails to make a dent, that's a pretty big argument against this. They definitely should have aired it in an earlier slot. I'm not sure how you go to this from an 11:00 premiere for Samurai Jack S5. I think swapping it with DBZ Kai, although unfair to the latter show, would've been a better look, since it allows you to easily replace it with a more typical premiere. -
mha My Hero Academia Episode 5 Discussion!!!

Heh... this is rather lazy. Only when you come back to edit it, in giving this an image or two, will it be worthy of the vaunted "goo jah". -
People are egregiously overusing exclamation points in their post titles. I'm on vacation in (or rather, close to) the mountains again and don't really give a crap about that.

Isekai anime about war criminal gets cancelled and the director blames otaku
Blatch replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
Not the guy who was directing this show. But yeah, Yamakan be crazy. This is a pretty insane controversy in general, and I've never seen anything like it. Of course, another thing we don't see much of nowadays is racists getting reprimanded for their views. -

I see no reason to panic. Also, shouldn't Al have made a comment about this one not doing well in the female demographics? After all, it does have quite a lot of empowering female characters, which we like to the point of being masturbatory about it. -
Toyotaro under scrutiny (some spoilers contained within)
Blatch replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The tracing of Marvel/DC material seemed more suspect to me than taking from DBZ. This is something someone slightly more famous would be at least reprimanded for, so I feel like the other shoe should drop on this guy any day now... even if it's been a couple of weeks. -
Personally, I almost never explicitly drop shows. I just take really long hiatuses between episodes. Even Recovery of an MMO Junkie, which I stopped watching because of something unrelated to the content of the show, I'll probably get back to in a few months or so, once the controversy with the director is nothing more than an unusual trivia question. On the other hand, I did drop Black Clover out of my own volition, but that should be obvious. Everyone else seemed to do it.

gundam Two years ago today, Gundam returned to Toonami!
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'm thinking they'll play an HD remaster of G Gundam. It's seemingly not serious at all compared to the rest of the franchise, which could work to its advantage. -

flcl FLCL (FOOLY COOLY) PROGRESSIVE EPISODE #1 DISCUSSION!!
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
You could say "divisive", but while the opinions I saw were mostly all over the place, I didn't find anyone who said it sucked. Still, my limited view of the anime community probably isn't the best gauge of commercial appeal. -

Well, the opinions I saw are very scattersho-... Actually, it's Jman. I'm not bothering with an explanation. -
flcl FLCL (FOOLY COOLY) PROGRESSIVE EPISODE #1 DISCUSSION!!

Or how he was wearing a skirt. And then his underwear got compared to panties in a conversation. Oh, this new season. In a way, it seems "Progressive" compared to what's come before, but in a good way. Hidomi feels like a take on the FLCL protagonist fit for the last couple of years, combining the struggles of adolescence with a big dose of millennial cynicism. She has no idea what she wants to be, and I have to wonder if it's because she feels the older generations have fucked her over to an extent. The fact that she's just sitting there in her room, watching apparently rotoscoped footage of an idol concert without emotion, seems to drive home the point, as does her dreams of becoming a zombie and/or giant robot and eventually collapsing into nothing. If you're not an unironic Posadist, that might be the way to go. I ended up being enamored by this premiere. While it may have leaned a little too much on the references (although I will say, if that was a text message reenactment of the manga scene describing "fooly cooly" from the original show's first episode, it was really cute), it did have some instant classic moments, like the aforementioned opening and skirt scene, the teacher showing pr0n to her students, and then her reveal as Haruko wearing a skinsuit at the end. I got up off my seat and cheered at that one. This really does feel like a new version of the show anime fans of my generation can call their own. I hope it gets even better over the next five episodes. -
Toonami Developing New Anime With 'Ghost in the Shell' Studio
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
After the main character of the series (arguably) died? Touché. Personally, I do think another Cowboy Bebop show could work, if it becomes more of an anthology series like with the FLCL sequels. They could never get away with a direct sequel, of course, but I'm sure any new series would have cameos from Jet, Faye, Edward, Ein, and all our favorites.
