Eh, I'll put it back.

I think we need to stop acting like MAL is the end-all solution for an anime's popularity. I don't even know how much of the collective worldwide community uses it. I certainly don't, or at least not more than just barely.
-
Honestly, I don't know how to gauge the show's popularity, but it comes from a combination of my own social media feed, interest articles about the show from other websites have generated, and fan art. There's quite a lot of works depicting characters from other shows as Popuko and Pipimi, and that has to account for something. Plus, a few scenes from the source material have become legitimate memes, such as the "Arrested for YouTube crimes" strip, and Popuko saying "I understand everything now." And as for the Tim & Eric point, I haven't seen any vocal defenders of the show in that vein. It's kind of ironic, too, as it goes against Bkub's own mentality that the manga/show doesn't care about what you think of it. Those two girls work in strange ways.

Yeah... I think there's a valid argument to be made that Toonami should've aired a comedy that wasn't so baroque and "out there" as their first one. But PPTP is genuinely popular, which might act against that. I'm more concerned about DB Super entering comedic filler literally right as the new show premieres.
-
I actually thought they'd go with rerunning Kai first, if only because it's more fresh; a late 2014 premiere vs. the start of 2017. Of course, I'm sure reruns of dubbed Super will bring in as many eyeballs.

Yeah, I fucked up. Maybe you can delete it.

If you live in a town that airs anything but sports on the bar TVs, I envy you. New Hampshire/northern Massachusetts is a graveyard when it comes to fine culture. Everyone's too busy getting drunk and yelling about when the next Patriots game is on. Hitherto, it's always sports, if not the local news.

So, just to have this on the record, I have a bad gut feeling that [adult swim] is going to completely gloss over this show when rating it and just slap a TV-MAL on every episode. I don't know how the SimulDub turned out, but I would assume it has at least moderate swearing ("shit", et al.) like Crunchyroll's version, which could warrant it.

Dragon Ball Super Episode 68 Discussion
Blatch replied to Meilag32's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Everyone I know thinks the Arale episode is one of the best of the series... no irony. Of course, it's even better if you've actually watched/read Dr. Slump, so I'm expecting blank stares from most Toonami fans. Also, I would recommend that everyone put their Vegeta boners away for as long as this show isn't in serious territory. These episodes are funny, and if one character getting shat on is part of what makes them so great, then so be it. All of you, show some humility for once. -
Twitter will seemingly ban you even if you jokingly threaten someone. It can be nice to have less oversight, even if it means this place is a moderate shithole.

Uh... Poke's been fairly active today. Is this another case of just not wanting to do the schedule? -
stream 2018 Weekly Streaming Archives

I doubt Jason has any sort of input over the online stream. -
So now that Elfie has left the boards (again), I guess I can safely say that I really never cared for the "Goo jah!" meme. Why should I be congratulated for a thread that I never spend more than a few minutes on at a time working on? It felt stupid and autistic... an even more autistic habit than most stuff I do myself. All it ever did was waste bandwidth.

But does anyone actually want subtitled shows on Toonami? I don't know why in the fuck I should stay up until 2:00 a.m. to watch subtitled Sword Art Online, because I'm too tired to read all those lines of subtitles by then. Have the characters' lines be in English, please. Toonami has already done a lot for causing dubs of anime to come out faster in America, so I think they should use their powers to get as quick of a dub as they possibly can. Even if you try to attract the weeb audience, they would rather go the piracy route, or maybe watch on Crunchyroll if they can afford it. On top of this, Toonami branching out into new genres has more to do with the changing times. They can't get as many action shows as they used to, so this is their way to combat it, and much of the audience is accepting. Of course, they can also make completely new action shows that are in English to begin with. I don't think airing subs is a valid replacement for this. Basically, if you looked at the April Fools' gag and came to the conclusion that Toonami should air more subtitled shows, your brain is hopelessly broken in ways I can't even begin to describe.

Probably, although it does imply that DeMarco inked a deal for more AoT several months before its actual premiere, which would be impressive. At this point, I think it's genuinely possible for S3 to replace FLCL Progressive and premiere a full week before it does Japan. At any rate, it's probably at least getting a same-week dubbed airing.
-
No. An extremely hard and fast no. They specifically did that on April Fools' Day because they knew it would probably be the only time they ever aired subtitled anime. I don't think DeMarco's opinion on that has changed.

I think it was @brianycpht who speculated on Twitter that My Hero Academia and Pop Team Epic, both shows from Funi, were obtained in a package deal, if only because DeMarco mentioned them both (albeit through obtuse monikers) in the same tweet. This theory will be further boosted if the "in the pocket" show is also a Funimation property.

That one was on [adult swim action].

The first episode has references to slightly more mainstream stuff, like your name. and Kemono Friends. I'm not sure if the viewing public who isn't into much anime will appreciate those. Also, Hoshiiro Girldrop is an affectionate parody of pretty much every idol show that has ever existed, with a little bit of Hannah Montana mixed in. No, really! I wish the promo they did for the show had featured some kind of fake-out involving that show; I blame the lack of actual animation for it. Most of the material of the parody you see are in the next-episode previews, and they're just still frames, so it would've been difficult to make anything meaningful out of them.

Getting back to the reason this thread was made... yeah, Darling in the Frankxx probably shouldn't be on Toonami. The audience will consider it a trainwreck the likes of which Toonami hasn't seen since the last SAO season ended.
