My Hero Academia Marathon on September 1st!
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
In this case, it's not "skipped" so much as that the TV license probably doesn't include it. There are probably other such examples for Toonami shows. -
One-Punch Man returns, Lupin & Bebop swap August 11th

Unfortunately, if you were hoping for Season 2 of OPM to air right after Toonami's rerun, you're shit out of luck. At least the wait means it's almost certain to look pretty. -
My Hero Academia Marathon on September 1st!
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
All righty then. This is a good substitute for the "Hero Notebook" recap episode, even if this season could benefit from being massively compressed. Also, with the schedule being clear, this is now confirmed to be the longest marathon in Toonami history (in terms of original content), as well as the second schedule overall since early 2015 to run for 6.5 hours. I dare you to stay up and watch it live to the end. -
Actually... yeah, that wasn't a good idea. And it does relate to my personal politics, even though they're a lot more complex than just hating the guy in charge of everything. I'll try to be less caustic when posting for right now.

My Hero Academia Marathon on September 1st!

But... that time is enough to air only twelve episodes. So they're either expanding to 4:30 just for the night (more likely, IMO) or maybe airing fewer commercials so they can fit an extra episode into a shorter amount of time. Why does every single announcement Toonami makes, no matter how simple it should be, manage to invite pointless speculation? As I've said before, it's driving me mad. -
Oh, so he's completely unaware of the show's parody elements? Of course, those largely went away by... like, the third season, but regardless, that wouldn't be fun. Of course, I'm not sure if he watches much TV beyond Fox and Friends, plus whatever white nationalist-flavored propaganda they've been showing lately.

Most of America is having a bad week right now, and this happens all the time. I'm not doing so bad, though. One thing keeping me sane for right now is my belief that TOM should say "fuck Trump" on air, uncensored.

Oh, so now Black Clover is suddenly beating the shows before it. When does it get moved back up to 11:30? Pretty much all of TV was doing better back then, on top of you cherry-picking the absolute best date. But, honestly, I've become really annoyed at the idea of anyone having a near-encyclopedic knowledge of Toonami history, which is needed largely because we have so much bantering about the Toonami shows and what's going to be replaced by anything else, in addition to ratings banner that borders on insanity. Pretty much the only way you could've made that post more annoying was openly wondering if Toonami should play another David Gilmour music video to boost ratings. In addition, the fact that you appended the laughing reaction to a direct insult seems to indicate that you are completely incapable of being shamed. At least that's a valuable skill to have.

black clover Black Clover Page 33 Discussion!!
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
I don't mean to complain, but reading text like this just bugs the hell out of me. The first part shouldn't be capitalized, and the last is spelled wrong. -

Most of the DB fans I've seen seem to think the Universe Survival arc has the same problems as the rest of the show, and in some ways, they're doubled down on. On the other hand, at least the last few episodes of it are great.
-
They didn't do a marathon for the 4th of July this year, so I'd like to believe that they've gotten more sane about planning them. As for Attack on Titan, it has no TV-MA episodes. The sixth episode of S1 was apparently rated TV-MAV at some point, but they changed it to 14DLV before it aired, like what was done with an episode of Space Dandy. Regardless, they could absolutely air reruns at 8:30 if they wanted to.
-
Way to go, slugger. Attack on Titan gets a much better slot for its new season, but might be slightly disadvantaged as the third show on the block. On the other hand... man, they're really trying to make Deku and friends be popular. We'll see if that translates to better ratings, since this show has been shitting the bed relative to DB Super seemingly even by the normal standards. Objectively, the best part of this schedule will be not having the content warning come on midway through the hour anymore. That's always bugged the shit out of me.

We can memetically pretend we hate Pop Team Epic all we want
Blatch replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
A lot of the hate for that show is because many think "being cliche = bad", but the truth is, you can have a show that's jam-packed with tropes of all sorts and have it still be a hit. I felt that way about Megalo Box; the content of the show is your typical "average Joe tries to become a boxing champion", but how everything is presented elevates it into an excellent production. On the other hand, BC's animation and composition leave much to be desired. I still don't understand the "PPTP doesn't have punchlines" argument, but considering that this thread has taken a political turn, I'll probably flee it forever before I try to answer that again. -
Unsurprisingly, Toonami will air Attack on Titan S3.
Blatch replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yeah, the whole "Stand user of the week" formula has gotten really tedious after more than forty episodes. Diamond is Unbreakable apparently has a more serialized plot, so I'm hoping to not get burnt out on it. The other big complaint I have with this season is that pretty much everyone except Jotaro gets character development, with Polnareff often hogging up the running time with that story about... wasn't it his girlfriend? That's another problem DiU apparently fixes. -

Why do you have to come up with pedantic facts for every single thing Toonami does? It takes the fun out of everything. Anyway, the fact that they've waited this long to announce expansion alongside AoT S3 blows my mind. There's no good reason why they can't tell the audience what to expect. I guess the reason why they started waiting until closer to a show's premiere was there were sudden problems with the contract that would come up and they would have to change the date and/or time. But... come on, that shouldn't be an issue at a month out from the premiere, let alone two weeks. -

Was it Paul? I know I saw him saying that the Boruto announcement "saved" Toonami. But even if he did, he's probably not as judgmental as AnimeSavior, who blocks anyone remotely critical (even jokingly so) of the Sword Art Onlines. -

I don't think the last music video ("Ferromagnetic Flow") had any PPTP clips, but the semi-recent "Growing" speech did, and I think what they used fit well. Unfortunately, I agree. The recent storyline with the King playing board games has been almost torturously boring, although I think the most recent episode improved things a little bit. Still, if I ever want to rewatch Chimera Ant, I'll probably skip really big chunks of it. -

Blatch replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
From an objective standpoint where "mistakes" directly lead to the block being damaged, the only one Toonami made was doing another Month of Movies in 2014... and even then, that was part of a string of several blunders (AoT reruns, et al.) that lead to the big block cut a few weeks later. On the other hand, rag on Pop Team Epic all you want, but its ratings are A-OK. The fact that the block's numbers keep going down and yet we're about to expand to 10:00 p.m. seems to indicate that everyone is blithely ignoring current trends, and I do hate that. Now, if we're going to talk about stuff Toonami did that we personally don't like, I have a couple choices. Airing Tokyo Ghoul long after the height of its popularity wasn't a good look, especially since it was one of the few totally unique shows they aired in 2017. I also don't think they should've gone for Black Clover, regardless of the actual quality of the show. Right now, it's basically dead weight that few people care about. -
You can't say PPTP did badly when we don't know how well My Zero Academia's retention was. Honestly, I'm surprised this thread hasn't been flooded with snide comments about that show; Jman said he didn't like it, and there were also complaints about a betrayal of its premise. You guys can't even be consistent with scapegoating. [this is not funny]

Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
You know, I've asked for Toonami to do at least a tiny bit more advertising outside of the block... but since the FLCL Progressive promo that aired during an NBA playoff game seemingly failed to inflate the numbers, I guess I see their logic in it now. On the other hand, I like that we're getting show announcements earlier than usual as of late, even though Viz is probably contributing more to that. -
From SDCC: Boruto coming in September
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I did not read anything like that. Also, since they're airing the next part of JoJo's, shouldn't the number be five?
