  1. We now have an updated schedule for 10/20, but the 27th is still mostly empty. Does this mean they're scheduling the block one week at a time right now? I've never seen anything like this in all my years of watching Toonami. For that matter, they could be deciding whether or not to do a marathon for Halloween. If not originally planned, it would help them buy more time.
  2. Planet With #6 to #8 [this night wounds time]
  3. Especially since there's no better way for Megalo Box to be slotted. Although, but I might be reading too much into this... the way they announce the rerun of Alternative implies that they're only rerunning the first episode for now, and this is a temporary schedule. Maybe they'll get the new show in very soon and things will change again; the doubling up of Jack corroborates this, although changing that is the other way they could mix things up.
  4. Doing a parody of a certain show has no correlation with anything, including broadcast rights.
  5. The unique set of circumstances the first series was made under might never be matched. You had a group of world-class animators emotionally drained by working on End of Evangelion who just so happened to have a lavish OVA-sized budget to test some new animation equipment with. If you force someone to come up with something even half as creative, you're not going to win. Although, maybe something involving the staff of the final Rebuild movie could've been more fruitful, at least if Studio Khara were to work out a truce with Production I.G. to do it. They could've demanded something to appeal to American audiences, but I doubt it.
  6. I did catch up on FLCL Alternative in time for the finale, so I was able to watch it and decided that the series as a whole was pretty good. Here's a brief Twitter thread about it, since I'd rather not regurgitate my thoughts up here. The only other show I'm currently caught up on is JoJo's, so I watched that yesterday. And now, some thoughts on the entire season thus far: The whole idea of the Stand Arrow is interesting. It was previously said that a person has to have a "fighting spirit" to wield a Stand, whereas this device can give anybody one, assuming they can survive the hit. Perhaps just getting hit by an arrow like that and not dying is enough fighting to warrant a Stand's creation. Since Enyaba originally possessed the bow and arrow, did she whack all of DIO's lackeys with it one by one to give them their own? For that matter, have any villains in the whole show naturally possessed Stands? The only one I assume has is DIO himself. When Jotaro told Josuke that it isn't possible for a Stand to bring back the dead, I feel like he only did that to shut him up. If not, the latter probably would've been moping for days on end, akin to Akame ga Kill!'s example with Tatsumi wanting to revive his friends with an Imperial Arms. But in that show, there was a finite number of weapons with certain abilities compared to a theoretically infinite number of Stand users, so it's possible we'll see one with an ability to reanimate the dead, even as an unintentional benefit, given enough time. It's possible Araki didn't use it by now because he thought it was too easy of a power to give, as there are quite a few Stands with abilities that can't be classified under simple tropes. It wasn't explained why the Nichimura brothers wore clothes with references to money until the show revealed their backstory. That was a nice touch. Those episodes had some really good horror direction. I'm sure Al enjoyed them for that reason, but I don't know if he's explicitly said so. I'm surprised the protagonists let Tamami work for them even though he was a tremendous asshole. Threatening Koichi's friends and family like he did puts him on par with Dan of Steel, and he suffered one of the most intense beatdowns in the entire series. At least his Stand offers an interesting power that I'm sure can be abused under pressure. Finally, I've been scouring the credits for any interesting seiyuu that were in the voice cast. It's irrelevant to the Toonami airing, but that doesn't mean it's not of personal use. So far, the only one to catch my eye is that Yuuki Kuwahara had a minor role as one of Yukako's classmates in one episode, and I think I already knew that. For what it's worth, this is my favorite show/franchise currently on Toonami, and DiU's quality increase in just about every department has only bolstered my feelings. I feel like I could discuss it for hours on end.
  7. So why are they not labeling the next batch of episodes as Season 4? If you're taking a six-month break, and this was all planned ahead of time, they should be considered separate seasons. Heck, Overlord divvied up two different seasons between three months. I mean... son of a gun. At least Toonami has more than enough time to pick out a replacement for November-ish onward.
  8. You know, this is a genuinely good point, and it's one I haven't seen expressed anywhere else. If they had combined the best ideas from Progressive and Alternative into one plot, and then expanded it out to a full cour, this sequel experiment might have been better. Here's the ANN review for the finale, and it does get a B. I agree with the reviewer's points, particularly about the finale deciding to go all out with an Akira cameo, of all things. I would take that even further: the fact that the finale effectively indulged on a bunch of anime-esque cliches like Kana achieving a super form, a hot-blooded rousing speech immediately after that, and then launching the characters into space is rather disappointing. The show ended on a shallow western parody of anime, which is very unfitting for a Japanese-made production. My expression was that Kana ended up creating a new world, or even an alternate universe, where she got to live a happier life, and maybe Haruko and/or Medical Mechanica don't exist so things can be normal for everyone. This was probably on Mars, as going into space wouldn't have a good reason otherwise. Haruko's situation is also interesting to think about. Maybe she was witnessing the events of the first FLCL as something she'll be a part of in another timeline?
  9. Uh... my apologies. I thought that post was in the FLCL Alternative thread. My rage was directed towards someone apparently thinking the finale was filler. It is true that ANN gives out lower grades a lot of the time, but I could've been better about saying it.
  10. Zombieland Saga #1 Nichijou #7
  11. I'm the same way, except using uBlock Origin. Anyway, I don't think the pinned tweet's article is an exaggeration. People seem to think that way because they don't listen to the music [as] specializes in, but to name a really big example, Run the Jewels wouldn't have become a thing if it weren't for Jason lending a commercial hand to both of its key artists. There's also the whole concept of offering free tracks to get people introduced to a band they might like, either through the Adult Swim Singles program or older compilations like Ghostly Swim. Those have probably worked for a lot in both camps.
  12. Nice job stealing this for a worthy topic discussion. If it's taking this long to update a schedule, they're probably rerunning Alternative and Bebop, and nothing new is premiering. Why would they wait until a single week out to announce anything?
  13. It's not really an "underdog" hit because I'm seeing quite a few people talk about it on my... actually, nevermind. Let's see what the MAL score is like in a few months.
  14. And it's over... again. I still haven't watched past the second episode.
  15. What if they never bother to remove it? I'd laugh at the prospect of them steaming nothing but Gundam Unicorn for at least the rest of 2018, if not forever. I mean, it's what you actually want... more Gundam on Toonami, or a place adjacent to it. And the marathon stream is a lost cause anyway.
  16. Don't forget an MLB playoff game. Really, there's no reason to be mad at last weekend when so much shit was going on.
  17. Why would there be a correlation? The confirmation was over hours before Toonami started. If there was a contingent of viewers who didn't watch because they were so depressed at how unbelievably goddamn shitty the world is, I understand, but at the same time, escapist entertainment is self-care I'm sure all of these people deserve. And... well, I think I'm going to take a break from this thread for a while. It's like a knife jabbing bad thoughts into my thigh.
  18. This is the part where I'd ask you to stop projecting your fetish for this show, but instead, I'm going to reflect on what a huge fucking asshole I am for thinking that.
  19. I want to post something constructive in here, but that fat fetish avatar is unnerving me.
  20. I know you like to be optimistic, but considering they got away with rerunning all of Progressive without changing its slot, it's obvious they'll do the same for this. Pre-Flight is on tonight, but they don't seem to announce anything on there outside of simulcasted convention panels. Wait for a Facebook post this weekend, is what I'm saying.
  21. So what? Dragon Ball is Dragon Ball. Even other popular shonen series would struggle to fill that many seats, except for maybe My Hero Academia.
  22. People were expecting something new to replace FLCL Alternative on October 20, but now it looks like that show is rerunning. And there isn't an official schedule for that week yet, so we'll have to see if certain things get moved around.
  23. I've watched the first two episodes of Alternative, and although I've enjoyed both of them, it definitely feels like this show would've worked better as a completely independent project. One big complaint I have against both new FLCL shows is actually something I haven't seen anybody else mention: why do they have to be only six episodes? Just because the O.G. series was only this long doesn't mean you have to do that again. I feel like this is limiting the potential of both of them. Progressive suffered from not taking advantage of many plot points and having to abandon them by the season's end, like with amusement park and the shady dodo mascot running it. Also, they could've used more time to balance out the self-indulgence of the action scenes with more relaxed moments to make Hidomi more developed. I think if Production I.G. had only commissioned one new series, using Progressive's plot as a baseline and all the best ideas from it and Alternative expanded into a 12-episode plot, this idea might have worked better. And also, they could've used a budget higher than what most TV anime get. That won't always make a show look better, but it does seem to help most of the time.
  24. The key art seems to stylize it as two words. Personally, I just think typing it as one looks awkward, and it's worse if completely capitalized. But enough of discussing semantics... I'm hyped to see Joe take on the world all over again.
